Day 1 – Your Panamanian Journey Begins

Gather at the airport in Indianapolis early one morning a couple days following graduation to join fellow teammates, family and Grizzly fans. With excitement and anticipation, board your international flight to travel beyond the Caribbean to the southern end of Central America. Enjoy some movies and a meal enroute arriving in the afternoon in the beautiful tropical climate of the Republic of Panama.

Check-in to the hotel and if all goes smoothly, enjoy a quiet evening in the fresh and warm Panamanian air.

Day 2 - Portobelo

PORTOBELO

North of Panama City, Portobelo is one of the oldest Spanish fortifications on the Caribbean coast. “Puerto Bello”, the Beautiful Port, was named by Columbus in 1502 on his fourth New World journey.

The landscape of the bay lead to it becoming a significant strategic stronghold. However, this also meant it was the site of numerous invasions at the hands of English privateers and the Royal Navy.

Pirates also looted Portobelo from time-to-time and were in constant skirmishes with the Spanish landlords of Panama at that time.

In the 18th century, Portobelo was overrun and never regained prominence. Later, parts of the city were dismantled to build the Panama Canal and many of the stones were build in the construction of the Gatun locks. Currently it is protected as a national park and as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 4 – Practice & City Tour

After the morning practice we will take a tour of the Capital of the Republic of Panama. It is located at the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal. It is a hub for international banking and commerce, as well as ranking as one of the top 5 places in the world to retire.

You will visit the ruins of the first city of Panama (Old Panama), founded in 1519; and then we’ll gaze at the city’s skyscrapers, the banking district as well as the hotels and commercial centers. A visit to the Colonial Panama follows, which is known as the last Spanish enclosed sea-walled city.
