AzMERIT Results: What Franklin at Alma Families Can Expect
On October 21st, trifold pamphlets were sent home with every 4th-6th grade student with information about the AzMERIT test scores which will be shared on November 16, 2015. These scores are reflective of the state assessment all 4th-6th grade students took last spring. Since these are the first-ever AzMERIT results from assessments taken in spring 2015, your child’s scores will be different than they were on the AIMS and may be lower than anticipated. These results give us important information we can use along with your child’s grades, homework, and class participation to understand how he or she is meeting higher expectations. Please visit mpsaz.org/azmerit to learn more about AzMERIT, find valuable resources and helpful links, and watch a video that will help you better understand

ECA Donations
Did you know… the Extra Curricular Activity (ECA) tax credit dollars donated to our school directly benefit students? Did you know… you can contribute to our ECA fund and you may receive the money back in the form of a tax credit? Did you know… anyone can contribute to any school? Grandparents, uncles, aunts, and friends can donate. Encouraging others to pay their credit to our school instead of to their state taxes is a great way to enrich your child’s school experience. Did you know… you can donate on the web at http://www.mpsaz.org/community/eca To be eligible for a state tax credit in 2015, your contribution must be received or postmarked by April 15, 2016. You can also donate at the school office, or by mail (ECA Tax Credit—MPS, 63 E. Main St. #101, Mesa, AZ 85201) You can even use your credit card! Hopefully the ECA tax credit will work for you.

STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION VOTE
& REVIEW OF AZ COLLEGE AND
CAREER READY STANDARDS
The motion passed last week by the State Board of Education was symbolic in nature. This removes Arizona’s College and Career Ready standards from the Common Core political debate that has been taking place over the last several years and provides stability for Arizona’s schools and teachers to focus on what’s important - good teaching and learning. Moving forward, the perception that Arizona does not have total control over the standards creation (or revision) process will thankfully be gone. The SBE action does not change the current state standards, the Franklin curriculum, or the implementation documents that our MPS Board approved. It certainly does not change the rigorous learning expectations set forth in the standards. Bottom line is that what educators are teaching and students
