MarchDeborah Maynard Sculpture“I am Deborah Maynard, a 60ish year old artist from Darwin and Alice Springs. I recently moved to Adelaide with my family, having had many years of practising arts across a wide range of mediums including silk screening, dressmaking and pattern design, as well as ceramics and painting. I am also a qualified graphic designer which has informed some of my other ranges of work including cards, prints, CD covers, tarot cards and digital printing to canvas.

I also love to decorate. Old furniture becomes new again through my repairs and decoration, which I also apply to mannequins using a wide range of materials such as paints, fabric, jewellery, buttons and other paraphernalia. Galleries, gift shops and tourist outlets have showcased my creations in Darwin and now in Adelaide. My Button Pictures range of work is just one more way in which I can recycle buttons and jewellery into a new form of art.”

“In my life I have had many jobs, but it was the life of a professional artist that I was aiming for, realised only once I had settled in Australia after moving here from Russia with my family. I finally had the opportunity to make my dream come true - to learn how to draw and paint professionally.

Several happy years were spent studying at Marden Senior College where I was exposed to so much more than my initial interest in drawing and painting. By graduation in 2015 I had become interested in a range of styles and techniques, the use of different tools and materials, and overall a wider view on how I wanted to develop my arts practice. Combining what I had learned in unusual ways became my direction. My most favourite is mixed media and three-dimensional collage using ink and pen, fine liners, acrylics and watercolours, fabric and natural materials.

On show are some of my favourite collages, created using a variety of techniques and materials, which I hope you will enjoy.”
