Thank You. ! Thank You ! A big thumbs up to Patsi & Lappies for opening Seabird Shop early on the day of the latest power failure. This community spirit, and business acumen, was most welcomed by the locals ...who could not cook breakfast or brew the morning coffee on the day. Great service with a smile! Thumbs up also to Julie ,Tammy, Wendy and all the volunteers, who, despite the same power failure and weather conditions, presented an entertaining Moore Clothes Fashion Parade and Auction that day. This successful community activity has prevented so many items from going to landfill and created a fun and learning activity for many Lower Coastal folk. The donations are distributed far and wide giving “a hand up” to very grateful recipients. Successful outcomes for all involved. Joan Ward.

The Moore Clothes fashion parade held on Saturday 9th November was in every respect a total success, despite the heat wave conditions and power outage. An enthusiastic bunch of local ladies and one loveable gentleman in the form of Phil Flavell displayed an enticing array of pre-loved clothes, available for on-loving to one and all. During the event Wendy Nottle supplied a very succinct story about the extraordinarily fertile seed of an idea behind the foundation of Moore Clothes that I thought begged to be shared: “Once upon a time, in a little rural living estate called Redfield Park, there were three friends who, although were involved in numerous local groups, thought they still had too much idle time on their hands. So they thought “why not do something that not only helps the local community and the environment, but more importantly other charitable groups and organisations which assist the homeless and the needy?” So they came up with a plan to collect pre-loved clothing from the residents which would be sorted and then distributed to those in need at no cost. So began the onerous task of finding a place to work from, getting the appropriate permissions, advertising for the clothing and helpers and much, much more. To cut a long story short, all this was achieved and in March 2016 Moore Clothes opened its doors for the first time. Fast forward 3 ½ years and this little idea has grown into an amazing group that we know of today as ‘Moore Clothes’. It is an incorporated body and a registered charity whose turnover is approximately 4 tonnes of clothing per year!

To recognise these three wonderful ladies for all their hard work and unselfish acts, Julie Polette, Tammy Cullen and Susy Wright were presented with the highest honour – Life Membership of Moore Clothes Inc.” Congratulations to all those involved with the event; it was exceptionally well put together, coordinated and presented, further highlighted by the delicious and plentiful morning tea. The fashion parade is an annual event and a highly recommended one to look out for. All funds raised go back into the project to purchase shelving, consumables etc. Moore Clothes is an incorporated not for profit charitable group, run solely by volunteers. Deb Gowans

New receptacles for fishing line and hook waste have been installed along the estuary where people like to fish. Made by Men's Shed and installed by the Shire these tubes are in place so fishers can keep line, hooks and sinkers out of the river. The damage to birds and fish from hooks and entanglement in line should be more easily avoided now there is somewhere safe for the rubbish to go. The rest of the rubbish from bait bags, etc can go home in the bucket it came in

(hopefully with a couple of size fish too). GCA thanks Moore Men's Shed and the Shire for getting these in place. Linda Johnson Mobile: 0414 631 273

Stable Fly Action Group I have to admit to putting my apologies into the AGM for the Stable Fly Action Group in October but I have most definitely kept up my membership for this amazing group. So I am reporting from the October newsletter and a very positive conversation with Jo Ottaway, the secretary/ treasurer.

Last year Gingin Shire ratepayers had the opportunity to pay a voluntary levy for a dedicated Stable Fly inspector, Geoff Slater. This has paid off big time, and as Denise Kowald reported several members of the SFAG committee met on T&C Do property in Caraban and found little or no stable fly larvae on the property. She said the relationship with management and the workers with Geoff was good and working well. There has been a 45% increase in inspections and a 30% decrease in the number of complaints. If you want more information go onto the SFAG website www.stableflyactiongroup.org.au

The Stable Fly Management Plan is ongoing, but there are two very exciting developments within our shire. One is the introduction of Black Soldier Flies to Clean Up. Future Green Solutions, a Perth based Biotechnology company are experimenting with these flies to convert organic waste into high value products. Again for more info visit the SFAG website.

The other is a Gingin based company called GO Organics that has invested in a commercial composting operation. Again please read more on the website, this is really good news for the whole of our shire.

If you get bitten by a stable fly this summer PLEASE REPORT IT.

The phone app is “ MyPestGuideReporter”

Or email PADIS (DPIRD) [email protected]

Or phone the Shire 9575 2211

I would encourage all ratepayers to become a member of SFAG. The numbers of biting stable flies is way down on previous years due to this volunteer group, let’s keep it that way!

Music in the Park for 2020 is going to be held on Saturday 18th January. A new band will be performing this year ..... recommended by locals. Come on down and enjoy the fun.

Food and cool drinks will be available on the day - funds to help Redfield Park Volunteer First Aid Post.... So grab some friends and head on down and party with us. Event proudly sponsored by Gingin Shire and Bendigo Bank Gingin.

In the November class we congratulated Terri who has found out how to “Do things” on her apple computer! We explored the App “Paint” but decided it was very restrictive and not worth pursuing. Thanks to Dot for a lovely morning tea. We all used different programs to make Christmas cards. The idea here is to email or Facebook/messenger the card to family and or friends. Use a card template in Publisher or simply do a one page version in WORD with a photo and some words and border art etc. Maybe include a quick resume of the past year. Making it personal. Of course you could print them in Office Works or on your own printer but beware of block colour which could cost a bit in ink. Once you have got the desired effects, “save as” in the program you have used and then “Save As” again in a PDF format before sharing/ sending because the person you are sending to may not have the program you used to design the greeting. Another suggestion is to create a video on your phone sending greetings with you wearing Christmas hats etc. Then, when ready, go to the video and then press share and share it to Facebook or messenger or email. This could be a lot of fun for those who you are not likely to catch up with over the festive season. The next session is on December 5th and we will be meeting on January 2nd. You are most welcome to join us in the new year. Anne Stroud

SOVEREIGN HILL GARDEN CLUB

November started off with a visit to the

Lavender Farm on Old Yanchep Road which was organised by Kerry. Kala and Gary explained how the Lavender Farm eventuated, the way the harvest and processing of essential oils is carried out and the maintenance required during the QUIET periods. After this we were treated to a scrumptious feast of scones, biscuits and other goodies all containing lavender. This was followed up with sampling some 8 varieties of lavender flavoured ice-cream and sorbet. Great day was had. On Saturday 26th October, we all put on our thinking caps for our Quiz Night/Get Together. This was a great night with first prize between awarded to the table called ”Flowers and Nuts”. Thanks Julie for once again being our Quiz Master. A stall was held at the Moore Men’s Shed Open Day on Saturday 16th November where we sold a variety of plants and some of the mini succulent gardens we created during the year. The year will finish off with our Christmas Party on Saturday 14th December. Thankyou everyone for your support and interest in our Club this year and we hope to see you again when we recommence in February 2020.

Merry Christmas to everyone and Happy Gardening.

Wendy

Crafty Patch Woodridge

A happy group of our members enjoyed a great morning on Melbourne Cup day, dressing up for a race day lunch wearing our hats and finery. The best hat was decorated by Dot Jones with the names of all horses in the race. Well done Dot. We have also celebrated a birthday with an ‘0’ in it with a delicious cake for morning tea. Happy Birthday Jan. Some of the Crafty Patch ladies held a successful stall at the Spring Fair selling their goods; sewing, knitting and all things crafty.

The Christmas trees have been painted and decorated with the help of the very talented Julie; they look wonderful and I am sure will be on display at their homes. All our usual activities – scrap booking, patchwork, knitting, embroidery machining and

also some jewellery making with the help of Julie are being done. All our members would like to send a great big hug to our long time member, Jan Biffen, who has had many weeks in hospital. Keep your chin up Jan, we are all thinking of you. Our final day for 2019 will be on the 10th December with a Christmas party – hope everyone can attend for a fun-filled morning. We will be back again on 14th January. This is our last newsletter for the year, so we wish everyone a Christmas filled with peace, love and thankfulness. Have a joyous New Year. Maureen

WEIGHT WATCHERS

We have had a relatively quite month with our competition, the pear tree, coming to an end this week, with 3 members still hanging on. Whoever looses the most in 1 week receives a $2 scratchy and tells us what they have been doing. Last week the member who lost the most said " coming to WW's with all the encouragement she receives from members helps her

so much". As l have said before, we don't have a magic wand, but we do help each other. It is that first step walking in the door, and deciding to become healthier as it is not just about losing weight. As the photo shows, our wonderful volunteer ambos, Mel & Colin, came to our club last week and gave us a demonstration on how to deal with snake bites. Each time l see this demonstration l learn

a bit more. WW's will be breaking up for Christmas on December 4th and after our meeting we are going to Benara nursery. We start back Jan 8th so if there is anyone whose New Year's resolution is to become healthier please give me a call 0413 818 955 . l guess most of us are complaining about the very hot weather...but we are lucky if this is our only complaint. Seeing all the tragedies around our country with the fires and storms we can only pray for the people who have lost homes and possessions and for the firefighters and all other services who are still out there. Wishing you all a safe and Happy Christmas from Moore River Weight Watchers. " Believe you can and you're halfway there " - Theodore Roosevelt Jae Watson

SMILE Moore

Our first performance was at the Moore Clothes Fashion Parade on Saturday 9th November. The theme was all about clothing with the first section being sung and danced to “Second hand Rose” and the encore “These Boots are Made for Walking”. The wording was changed to suit the occasion.

The object of our group is to Smile, Mime, Inspire, Laugh, and Entertain which we hope we achieved. I know all the cast members thoroughly enjoyed themselves. If you would like to join us in our next performance, either as a cast member or in the audience, this is being held at Sovereign Hill on Saturday 11th January. It is a “Beach Theme” and everyone is asked to wear casual clothing. Ticket price is $10 which includes a meal. Further information can be obtained by telephoning Sue on 0417978281. Smile meets every second Tuesday at Sovereign House at 3.30pm. We would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you next year.

GUILDERTON BOWLING CLUB

The Bowling teams are doing really well so far this season, now in second place on the ladder

Well done to all , just keep it up. The heat was not kind last week but the teams got better as the heat got worse. Good to see Keith Littley back on the greens after his knee recon, well done for a quick come back. Keith We welcome more bowlers, we have plenty of bowls available for non bowlers, it won’t take you long to get to really enjoy the sport, no longer for the oldies - the young ones will take over and are already doing so well in all divisions. Don’t forget Friday 13th December - Twilight Bowls and afterwards come and enjoy a get together for “bowlers burgers“, plenty of surprises, come join in for the spirit of Christmas at the Community Hall,

EVERYONE WELCOME. EVERYONE WELCOME Please call Dot for catering purposes. 0429-969-889 or 9577 1321

The Guilderton Community Library is holding a very reasonably priced (just$20 – 4 cups of coffee) workshop on February 15th. The idea is to start at 10am to stimulate some ideas on how you can start to record your own life story or that of your family, or both. The reason that this is so important is to help your family in future generations understand who you were. It is also great fun and can be very therapeutic. Some of you may watch the TV program Who Do You Think You Are? How much easier to read about your family with a few photos, so much more interesting than scanning data bases. Lunch (included) will be a time to have a chat and share ideas with others at the workshop. Maybe some stories from your life. In the afternoon you will be working. Either on your laptop or iPad or writing on paper. If you choose paper I would suggest an A4 booklet or better still a folder with A4 paper already punched. We will be there to help, you do NOT NEED computer or writing experience. This is the basics. If you choose to write an autobiography later - brilliant but that can’t happen in one day! However we can achieve a lot together to start. Once you have booked a place at the workshop, you will need to accumulate some dates and maybe some memories, photos and documents. For example where did you go to school? Dates? First job? This is your life, so you are in charge. If you want to extend your record to include your Mum and Dad, grandparents etc then it might take till February to accumulate those facts. We would encourage you to book now as obviously places are limited. Call into the library on Wednesday or Saturday or phone Madeline on 0415 902 038 or Julie on 9377 1221. Yes its a long way off but there is no Moore River News in January and it could be sold out by then. Take this opportunity to have a look at your life, everyone has a story. Summer Golf is well underway at Guilderton Golf Club. The highlight so far was a hole-in-one by Roma Prince on the 12th hole. Congratulations Roma. RESULTS 19 October: 1st Stuart Morris 41, 2nd Phil Flavell 37 On the 26th October it was the battle of the Prince’s with Richard’s +5 just pipping Roma’s +4. The first round of the Summer Cup held on the 2nd November has Abe Wright as a bolter with 45 points and Brenno Brennan second on 40 points. 9th November: 1st Nigel Daddow 41, 2nd Richard Prince 37 (Roma Prince Hole in one on number 12) The 16th November saw club champion Stuart Morris continue his stellar form with a 63 nett, closely followed by Brian Keogh on 64 nett. Thanks to Richard Prince our course manager for all his work on the course. Its wonderful condition is a credit to his knowledge and consistent effort. Richard is scheduling some busy bees in the coming weeks to tidy up our course. We hope to see a good roll-up to these days. Despite the return of warmer weather, the playing numbers have remained high and the decision to play 18 holes during the summer season has been well supported. Let’s see you on the course this summer. Allan Wetherly Secretary

2019 Woodridge Spring Fair

Another hugely successful Spring Fair this year. Our aim is to provide a cheap family day out with activities and entertainment, while also giving local groups a chance to fundraise and promote themselves.

I think we achieved all this and more, pretty good for a group of 4. Saying that we couldn’t have done it without our volunteers on the day. A special thanks to Steve, Wilko, Jack and Joel, Jaide for all her help in the kids area, Julie and Ann for putting together a great art exhibition at the last minute. Last of all the biggest Thankyou is to our sponsors SunSmart, Gingin Shire and the Bendigo Bank. Spring Fair Committee ****************************************************** "Jesus shouted out passionately, 'To believe in me is to also believe in God who sent me. I have come as a light to shine in this dark world so that all who trust in me will no longer wander in darkness. If you hear my words and refuse to follow them, I do not judge you. For I have not come to judge you but to save you."......."I leave the gift of peace with you - my peace. Not the kind of fragile peace given by the world, but my perfect peace." (John 12:44-47, John 14:27 Passion Translation). Therefore, "Casting all your care upon Him, for he cares for you." (1Peter 5:7 KJV). I pray that may you find His peace this Christmas.

MOORE CLOTHES INC.

If the saying “When the going gets tough, the tough get going’ is true – then we have the toughest group of volunteers around. They are amazing. We knew the day of our annual Fashion Parade would be a bit difficult as the weather predictions were for 40 degree temperature and strong winds. This we thought we could cope with – but who would have thought we would also get an all-day power outage. Never fear, the show would go on. Generators, more ice, bottles of water and more gazebos were sourced. People scrambled to put up shade, set up

chairs, wind protection, anything to try and make the audience more comfortable. This was achieved and at 9.30 people started arriving. We had set up the hall for 55 people but it quickly filled, so the only thing to do was pick

up the chairs and reorganise the show back outside. The show was a fantastic success – the models in beautiful clothes and polished catwalk styles, the delicious spread of morning tea, the numerous raffle prizes and the wonderful performance by the SMILE Moore Group – who could have asked for more. So thank you to everyone who helped in any way and to the audience for your patience, perseverance and good

humour in the trying weather conditions. A special thanks to Moore Septics for the provision of the extra toilet. We applaud everyone, thanks to all the partners who helped setup and pull down everything

required, thanks to the kitchen ladies, all the models and performers, everyone who contributed food and especially our Moore clothes volunteers. We would also like to remind you that Moore closes for Christmas break from December 13 until reopening on January 9th Julie

Moore Men’s Shed

Christmas is almost upon us and a New Year just ‘around the corner’, we are all

a year older and our lives brimming with exciting new experiences from the year just past, these experiences for some are fast filling up the brain cells, for others the brain cells are just inactive.

Another progressive month has slipped by at the Shed where manufacturing has been flat out building up stock for our Open Day. Over all we have had a most successful year with the approval to build another Shed on site at Wedge Street, as an extension to our current Sheds. Further we have purchased new machinery and in addition we were given a top-quality Lathe, which does everything but makes our morning tea.

There is never a dull moment at the Shed because members are very creative and keep coming up with new ideas as to products we can manufacture. Recently the Shed purchased a Whetstone Grinder for sharpening our chisels, as used on the new lathe. With this new machine we can sharpen knives, scissors and anything with a blade.

A Big Thank You must go to those who visited our Open Day, mid-November. We had a record attendance and sold a record number of products; the results were just sensational. Our other stands, Sovereign Hill Garden Club, Sovereign Hill Craft Group Club, Moore Clothing and Guilderton Library all reported good results from the day’s activities. We thank them for their support, which gives our day a lot of variety and great opportunities for our visitors. On top of all this we gained two new members, which is just great for our longevity. Our next Open Day is set down for May 2020.

Our Christmas Luncheon will be held at the Guilderton Country Club Sunday 15th December starting at 1.00 PM.

The Shed will close Tuesday 17th December 2019 and reopen Tuesday 14th January 2020

SECRETARY MOORE MEN’S SHED

RED HATTERS. We have been so lucky with the rain over the past three years, not once have we been affected by the rain, but the weatherman certainly tried hard to disrupt on our interesting trip to Guildford. It did rain, but only whilst we were either at lunch at the restored

Guildford Hotel or on the train! What a lovely area, most of us had not been there for many years and all came home with some treasures. 24 of us went to the Morning Melodies concert which featured songs by Lennon and McCartney. Followed by lunch at the revolving ‘C’ Restaurant. With so much construction happening in Perth, it won’t be too long before the splendid views are restricted dramatically. Another very hot day in November deterred several ladies, but some ventured to the Perth City Council ‘Have A Go’ day at Burswood, the photo shows two ladies trying their hand at canoeing. The tour St Mary’s Cathedral was delightful too, so much history of Perth in this building, and we are still trying to envisage bringing those huge altars from Italy, especially the stunning one made from Argentinean marble. December sees us at the Perth Fire Station museum, which until quite recently housed the tenders for fighting fires in Perth and surrounds. 18th December is the last date for the year, we will enjoy a Christmas Get-together locally before having four weeks before our first 2020 outing. Our email address is [email protected] or call or message Dianne on 9577-1430 or 0414-469-297 for any further details on outings Dianne Millar

We are now in the Prohibited burning period, this means all burning and fires are not allowed including wood fired BBQs and campfires. One of our members along with other fire fighters from the area were part of a WA deployment to NSW. The Fire Control Officer for Woodridge would like to acknowledge the hard work done by residents in preparing their properties for the upcoming fire season. Fire permits were suspended on several occasions due to very high danger ratings. The decision to suspend permits is made by the Community Services Manager at The Shire of Gingin when the danger rating is very high and above. We do our best to get the messages out on chalkboards, texts and social media. We were present at the Spring Fair on 3rd November where we sold bacon and eggs rolls. It was our chance to engage with our community and acknowledge the ongoing support of the WCA. We would like to say a special thank you to Deb Gowans for all her hard work in arranging our new banner, purchasing the food and generally getting us all organised! Thanks Deb. We are excited to announce that Santa Claus and his helpers will again be on the fire truck giving out lollies on Sunday 22nd December from 4:30pm. From all our volunteer Firies we would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a peaceful new year. James Morton Captain

* IF YOU SEE SMOKE - RING 000 *

We recently showed some of our products at the Moore Men’s Shed Open Day. With Perth recording the hottest day on record we were surprised that our sales mainly consisted of beautifully knitted woollen garments! Thank you so much for all the people who ventured out in the heat and came to the Open Day.

We meet each Monday (including Public Holidays) from 9.30 til noon at Sovereign House, casual visitors are always also welcome.

Our last day for the year will be our Christmas gathering on 16th December, we will return Monday January 6th. Our very best wishes for the Christmas season.

GINGIN WEST BUSH FIRE BRIGADE

Elizabeth Hurley Hammer Centenarian Once a resident of Woodridge, Elizabeth Hurley Hammer celebrated her 100th Birthday on Tuesday

19th November, in Bunbury with a large gathering of Family & Friends at Bethanie Elanora Aged Care home in Bunbury where she now resides after a fall early this year damaging her knee leaving her unable to walk. Elizabeth lived in Woodridge along with her husband Harold from 1988 -1993 with their daughter Pixie Rijkuris & Family. They were extremely hard working members of our community. Pixie & I started the Moore River News together all those years ago. Elizabeth (Betty as she is so fondly called) has a great mind, wonderful historian, magnificent artist, who took up her artistic painting talent once more in 1997 after her husband Harold passed away. Betty was a prolific painter in those years following, so much so, Pixie organised a wonderful Art Exhibition of her works entitled “Portraits of Life” at the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery in 2013. Unfortunately from 2017 Betty’s eyesight started to deteriorate very quickly & she was robbed of continuing her passion of painting. Betty has 5 Children, 20 Grandchildren, 31 Great Grandchildren & 7 Great Great Grandchildren, the last only being born a few weeks ago. Believe me, she knows who they all belong to as well. “Keep living & enjoying Life Betty” Your friends Jenny & Ray Walker

WOODRIDGE PONY CLUB

Pony club has had a very busy few months. We held a clear jumping round which was well attended, not only by local members but also some

from the Wanneroo Riding Ranch. We also had our camp at Brookleigh, what a lovely place. While we were there the members went behind the scenes at Belvoir Equine Vet Centre to see where the surgeries are and also have a look at some horses and foals. Then it was off to the Pony Club Headquarters at the State Equestrian Centre in the Swan Valley for a

look around and learn how important these people are for organizing lots of events around not only W.A, but also in Eastern States. After that it was a trip to the Chocolate

Factory for some yummy chocolate. Once dinner was done, there were lessons for those who wanted with Kirsten Bain in the undercover arena. For some this was a first but very enjoyable experience. Saturday was a packed day with the members being split into three groups for the days riding and jumping with Rick, flat work with Jazz Wheeler Smith and then cross country jumping with Cassy Choules. Everyone was encouraged to have a go. This was a fabulous time away with the girls getting to know each other just that much better. Our AGM was held Saturday 16th. Even though it was very hot we had a good turn out, all office bearers were re-elected so next year this will be our committee: President Morag Gemmell, Vice-president Amanda Hill, Secretary Tia Thompson, Treasurer Christine Wright and 5 committee members, a couple of them being new to the committee. Each group had their trophies presented. Jazz’s group was first, her group was called the Palominos, in this group were our younger riders. Next group was the Chestnuts, Morag handed out their trophies. This group was the biggest with a few of the riders not able to attend. Last group was the Greys, this was a small group and Kristen was the coach but as she was unable to attend Amanda stepped in to present their trophies. Medals were awarded for attendance, Pony Club Show jumping champs, and pins for those member who have passed there E D D testing, Sadie Gemmell was awarded the perpetual trophy. Sadie received this award as she made a special effort to help our younger riders and was always quick to help when someone had a naughty pony. Well done Sadie. Pony Club has now finished for this year but we are looking forward to an exciting year in 2020 on behalf of our members we would like to wish you all a very happy and safe Christmas and new year Cheers Lynley

Visitor

Centre

Our volunteers had a very enjoyable outing to the Two Rocks/Yanchep National Park area on Friday 17th November. Thank you to Linda for organising this. It gave us an opportunity to see just what type of tourist attractions are in this area and gain a better understanding of them that we can relate to the tourists and visitors who call into our Centre.

Our shop is stocked with local produce and small gifts suitable for stocking fillers for Christmas. So why not call in and check us out.

It you would like to be part of this group and meet new people who come to the Guilderton area, please contact Linda on 0414631273. We are in need of new volunteers to help on our roster during the school holidays when we will be opened everyday. Opening hours are weekends, public and school holidays between 9.30 and 12.30. Building Safer Communities Project - "Violence-No Excuse!" Campaign

Following the successful community workshops run across the Shire of Gingin on the links between mental illness, substance misuse, Family and Domestic Violence and the intergenerational transmission of trauma, Lancelin Healthy Community Forum Inc. in partnership with Holyoake Wheatbelt Community Alcohol and Drug Service will be running a campaign over the December-January festive season as part of its “Building Community Safety” project.

The project has been funded by Bendigo Bank, the Shire of Gingin, WA Police and the Department of Social Security. The campaign follows on from Community Awareness Raising messages will be applied to take away liquor purchases throughout the Shire of Gingin focussing on the link between alcohol and violence and highlighting that there is no excuse for violent behaviour, whether family and domestic violence, or general violence. It is hoped the campaign will reduce the incidence of violence over this period by increasing public awareness of the problem.

Lower Moore River Working Group

Lower Moore River Working Group has been at work fencing, planting and weeding Moore River Estuary for many years.

Their most valuable work relies on their great ability to obtain grants from various funding bodies.

Recently they have had the steps to the estuary from Stephens Cres in Guilderton repaired so they are safer for the hundreds of visitors who like to fish and play on the northern side of the estuary, opposite the big sand dune.

Many thanks to Sean for the work and LMRWG for making it happen.

Here are the 'before' and 'after' shots of this beautiful part of our Shire.

RECYCLING National Recycling week was on the 11th -17th November, there was a great article in The West Australian regarding all things recycling. Here are a few points of interest that will surprise you! According to research compiled by Planet Ark,

71% of Australians are confident they know how to recycle at home, however, 94% are incorrectly recycling at least one item.

Long-life beverage containers are another point of confusion according to the research, with 20% of Australians unsure of whether the items are accepted in there council recycling bin.

When it comes to glass, the research show more than half of Australians incorrectly believe items other than bottles & jars can be recycled. This is not the case. Drinking glasses, plate glass and oven proof glass are generally tougher than disposable glass items and require higher temperatures to melt.

Single-use cutlery can not be recycled. Single-use utensils will end up in landfill regardless of whether they are made from plastic, wood or bamboo.

The list of common recycling mistakes is the belief among 63% of Australians that biodegradable and compostable plastic items belong in recycling bins. These items are not accepted by council recycling systems because they contaminate the plastics recycling process. How are you going with your REDCYCLING? Did you look for the soft plastics container/box at your local supermarket? Check your 2019/20 Recycling calendar if you are unsure, Waste & Recycling items are listed A-Z Double check avonwaste.com.au and recycleright.wa.gov.au Until next time , don't forget to recycling correctly all your Christmas wrapping paper, soft plastics, etc MERRY CHRISTMAS CATCH YOU IN THE NEW YEAR Jenny Walker

"WHAT DOES COMMUNITY MEAN"

My understanding of Community is varied.

It can be a place that you live in! It can be a community group!

It can involve a community meeting! Having or sharing certain attitudes & interest in

common. A community is more than just a group of people living

in a particular area. We can lean on this community when times are tough,

our friends, family and neighbours who are there for us when we

need love support & encouragement. Another sense of community grows in so many groups

that we have in our own region. We have Men's Shed, this group looks out & supports our

older generation of retirees. Then there are many craft groups, who do wonderful

work, who support different charities and look out & support each other, always thinking of

others. How about the younger generation - Youth Clubs, all

types of sporting clubs, they give a sense of belonging in a wonderful community atmosphere.

Then of course we have our continuous supply of Volunteers in our Community!

Ambulance Officers, Fire Brigade Officers, all sorts of Emergency services personnel within our very own

region. I know I live in a wonderful Community, always

someone to lend a helping hand if needed. Take time to reflect on your Community, you will be

amazed what you find! If you feel alone in your Community, reach out, there is

always someone who will help, listen, extend there gratitude to you, as you can to them. Many people are private, don't like to be involved, that is

fine, but always know you will find a friend or friends in a COMMUNITY.

Wishing my Community a very happy &

wonderful festive season

The Moore River News team would like to thank

the year, make an opportunity to enjoy time with

friends and family and do find time to put your

feet up.

The Woodridge Community Association held our monthly meeting on Wed the 13th of November, we touched on many subjects including Spring Fair see report. One of the main topics was the ongoing issues with the school bus stop and the problems with school kids being able to get on and off the buses safely to their cars, it has been proposed to lower the speed limit on King Drive until you pass the hall area where the kids are being picked up after school . There has also been discussions about a working group to help develop and bring to fruition an upgrade to the Woodridge Community grounds that surround the hall. That working group should represent different members of the community to help bring some new ideas and further along the progress with a smaller group that already exists. Everyone from the community and community groups are welcome, please contact: secretary@woodridgecommunityassociation Or text 0417980929 if you are interested . WCA has a Movie Night on Sat 14th Dec this is a Free Event see poster everyone welcome please join us . Woodridge Community Association would like to thank you all for support throughout the year we wish you all the best for the festive season and we look forward to an even better year for 2020.
