What is e-cycleNYC?e-cycleNYC is a free and convenient electronic waste recycling service available to residential apartment buildings with 10 or more units.

The service is provided by the NYC Department of Sanitation and Electronic Recyclers International.

Why Join? Comply with the law. As of January 2015, it is illegal for New Yorkers to discard electronics in the trash. There is a $100 fine per offense.

It’s free! Various electronics manufacturers fund e-cycleNYC, so the service is provided at no cost to buildings or taxpayers.

Keep harmful materials from going to landfills. Electronics are the largest and fastest growing component of hazardous waste sent to landfills.

Create an organized way for residents to recycle electronics. With e-cycleNYC, staff can spend less time managing discarded electronics.

What Happens to the Electronics Collected?

Electronics are recycled domestically using the strictest industry and environmental standards available.

Data on electronics will be fully erased by e-cycleNYC as part of the recycling process.

How to EnrollBuilding managers or residents in apartment buildings with 10 or more units can enroll at nyc.gov/ecycle.

Service OptionsDepending on the size and type of building, e-cycleNYC provides three service options:

• Room cleanouts for buildings with 10 or more units. Buildings store electronics in a secure, enclosed area before they are picked up.

• Storage bins for buildings with 100 or more units. Buildings store electronics in a locked bin provided by e-cycleNYC. Two bin sizes available: Small (2' deep x 4' wide x 5' high) Large (2' deep x 5.5' wide x 6' high)

• Outdoor electronics recycling events for buildings with 250 or more units. Buildings work with e-cycleNYC to schedule outdoor electronics recycling events for building residents.

Recycle More!The NYC Department of Sanitation offers additional recycling services for residential apartment buildings.

Clothing & textiles: re-fashioNYC (nyc.gov/refashion) provides eligible buildings with free bins and pickup service for reuse and recycling. All proceeds from donations support the charitible mission of Housing Works.

Food scraps: NYC Organics Collection (nyc.gov/organics) provides eligible buildings with curbside collection of residents’ food scraps, food-soiled paper, and yard waste.
