Supplies Needed:• One Fabric A printed panel, measuring 23½" x 44" • ¾ yd. Fabric B (sashing and binding) • ⅔ yd. fusible fleece batting• ¾ yd. backing• Coordinating all-purpose thread

Helpful Notions:• Spray starch or starch alternative, such as Best Press™• Rotary cutter, mat, and ruler• ¼" piecing foot, such as Little Foot® or Patchwork Foot• Pins or Wonder Clips• Press cloth

Instructions:Read all instructions before beginning the project. All seam allow-ances are ¼" unless otherwise stated.

1. Prepare and cut fabrics:• Stabilize all fabrics well with spray starch or starch alterna-

tive. Press when dry to smooth fabric.• From Fabric A:

- Square panel edges, trimming off selvages and any printed borders.

- Fold panel in half, meeting short ends.- Measure width of panel to determine sashing divisions:

* Divide panel into five sections:° Our trimmed panel measured 22" x 42½".

The 22" width is not evenly divided by five; so we planned for three 5" wide center sections, equaling 15".

° 22" minus 15" equals 7" remaining for side sections.

° 7" divided by two side sections equals 3½".- Label sections, if needed.

• Cut Fabric B:- Cut four ⅞" crosswise strips for vertical sashing.- Cut four ⅞" crosswise strips for horizontal sashing.

Note: If a slightly wider sashing is desired, cut the same number of sashing strips 1” wide.

- Cut four 3½" wide crosswise strips for ½" wide finished binding. Set aside.

2. Add vertical sashing between panel sections:• Measure length of each vertical section.• Cut sashing strips to that length.• Place first sashing strip to panel section 1, right sides

together, aligning long cut edges.• Pin or Wonder Clip, being careful not to stretch either

layer.• Stitch seam, removing pins as you sew.

• Press seam flat, then toward panel section. Press carefully so as not to stretch or distort panel section or sashing.

• Pin, stitch, and then press as for first seam.

• Repeat until all sections have sashing between them.

3. Cut panel and add horizontal sashing:

Note: The particular art panel featured has “more quiet” upper and lower areas, so only two sashing strips were added in those areas.

• Cut two 5" wide crosswise sections from upper and lower ends of the sashed panel. Label, if needed.

• Cut sashing strips approximately 1" wider than panel width.

• Position first crosswise panel section with a sashing strip, right sides together, allowing sashing strip to extend beyond both ends.

• Press flat then in one direction.

• Meet second panel section to attached sashing, right sides together, aligning cut edges.

• Take time to carefully match sashing seams of both sec-tions.- Align long cut edges; turn back the second panel sec-

tion to see the sashing and first panel section under-neath.

- Visually match vertical sashing strips, replace turned back section and pin along both seams of the vertical sashings.

- Check the underside of pinned layers. Visible portions of pins should align with the sashing seams in the lower layer.

row. Press seams flat, then toward sashing.• Repeat steps for remaining panel section additions.

4. Fuse art panel to fusible fleece batting:• Place fusible batting,

fusible side up, on a pressing surface.

• Center art panel close to upper edge of fusible fleece, right side up.

• Carefully check sash-ing for square, using a quilting ruler, shift one section of art panel slightly to achieve straight, square intersections between the upper two sections.

• Fuse upper section, working a small area at a time, using a press cloth and following manufacturer’s instructions.

• Allow fused section to cool completely before reposition-ing project on pressing surface.

• Repeat aligning and fusing, section by section, until art panel is completely fused to batting.
