Four Drop-off Events PlannedPennsylvania American Water is teaming up with the Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC) to sponsor four Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) pharmaceutical collection events in Allegheny County.

WHEN aND WHErESat., Sept. 29, 2012, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. (all locations)1) Green Tree Borough Building, 10 W. Manilla Ave. 2) Mall at robinson (parking lot near Sears and

Golden Corral), 100 Robinson Centre Dr., Robinson Township

3) Medical rescue Team South, 315 Cypress Way, Mt. Lebanon

4) Borough of Munhall, 1900 West Street

WHaT To BriNGUnwanted and expired medications, prescription (non-controlled, controlled substances) and over-the-counter, in tablet, liquid, ointment, inhaler, powder or patch form.

HoW To PrEParE your MEDicaTioNSKeep medications in their original containers. Do not remove the labels. It is not necessary to cross out per-sonal and prescriber information, but feel free to do so.

WHaT To ExPEcT aT THE DroP-oFFHand your medications directly to a law enforcement official or a designated event volunteer. Law enforce-ment officials will be working at and monitoring the event, because, by law, only they can take possession of certain types of medications. You may leave the site after handing over your medications.• There is no charge to participate.• There will be no questions asked and all privacy

laws will be adhered to.• All medications will be responsibly disposed of

through incineration.

• The program is only available to homeowners. No businesses can participate.

• There will be no refunds given for unwanted medications. Medications collected at the event will NOT be resold or used.

• DO NOT bring durable medical goods, health and beauty aids, home care supplies, home health equipment, household hazardous waste (paint, aerosol cans, etc.), illegal substances and para-phernalia, infectious waste, institutional waste, medical devices and equipment, medical sharps (needles, lancets), mercury thermometers, personal care items, radioactive materials. THESE MATERIALS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

NoT aBLE To JoiN uS iN SEPTEMBEr?Follow these simple tips to properly dispose of medications at home. Don’t flush prescription drugs down the toilet or drain, unless the label or accompanying patient information specifically instructs you to do so. Here's what you do instead:1. Take unused or expired prescription drugs out of

their original containers.2. Mix prescription drugs with an undesirable

substance, such as used coffee grounds, cat litter or vegetable oil.

3. Put the mixture in a disposable container with a lid, such as an empty milk carton, margarine tub or sealable bag.

4. Conceal personal information on drug container, including Rx number, using a permanent marker or duct tape, or by scratching it off.

5. Place the sealed container with the mixture and the empty drug containers in the trash.
