Free Tax Filing in Michiana AARP: Volunteers will assist taxpayers, ages 60 and older. Low and moderate-income taxpayers can also seek help at several local tax aid sites. Find one closest to you: http://aarp.us/fXXe1M Goshen College: Students are helping Elkhart County residents to do their taxes for free. Every Monday until April 4, Goshen College accounting students offer free tax preparation to low-income families. Accounting Professor Michelle Horning will supervise to ensure error-free tax filing. The free filings are part of the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. It is being held every Monday in room 12 of the Newcomer Center. Appointments are required. To set up an appointment, call Linda Rouch: (574) 535-7450. They schedule sessions from 9 - 11:45 a.m. H&R Block: This tax preparation firm is providing free filing of the Form 1040-EZ (which does NOT include an earned income credit calculation), extended through February 28 th . State returns are not included in this offer. For more information, visit: http://www.hrblock.com/1040EZ The IRS Free File Program: Taxpayers whose 2010 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) is $58,000 or less are eligible to participate by going to the website http://www.freefile.irs.gov Indiana has its own version of free filing at http://www.ifile.IN.gov and information on Michigan's free e-file services is available at http://www.mifastfile.org. United Way: Dial 2-1-1 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and schedule an appointment. United Way personnel involved in this effort will prepare both federal and state of Indiana income tax returns. Vivian Harrington Gray Notre Dame-Saint Mary's College Tax Assistance Program (TAP): This service provides free federal and state income tax preparation for taxpayers whose 2010 income was $40,000 or less. Activities will be held at the downtown libraries in Mishawaka and South Bend. Several other sites will be operated by TAP personnel on weekday afternoons and evenings.
