An In-Depth View of the THM Formation Process and a Set of Strategies to Mitigate THM Formation in the Water Distribution Network

Elevated trihalomethane (THM) levels are the most common violations of the Stage 2 DBP Rule in the United States. Municipalities across North America have employed a variety of methods to reduce THM formation rates which can include costly and lengthy treatment plant upgrades. Over the past decade, more effective means for mitigating THM formation and facilitating removal have centered on using water storage tanks and reservoirs as intervention points. Distribution system focused intervention has been shown to have remarkable results both stand-alone and in conjunction with plant based methods.

In this one-hour webinar, we will review the basics of THM formation in drinking water systems, the process by which THMs can be removed through destratification/aeration/ventilation and profile the various technology choices in a number of cases studies.
