Great paint job!-But what happens to the leftover paint?

From 2007 Enviropaints partnered with PlaceMakers to provide free waste paint disposed of at any of the 55 PlaceMakersstores throughout New Zealand.

Enviropaints Limited was founded in September 2000.

Approximately 50,000,000 litres of paint is sold in New Zealand everyyear. Over 97-98% of this paint is used to beautify our homes, placesof work, recreational areas and government & council buildings.So what happens to the other 2-3% of the paint?

3% is in fact 1.5 million litres of paint! Most of this goes to landfillsand seeps out, polluting the very water we drink or ends up in the sea.There is one company doing something about it:

Enviropaints is New Zealand’s only TRUE paint recycler/recreator.

With the assistance of City Councils and PlaceMakers stores Enviropaints Recycling collects 320,000 litres of paint in 2009. This helps relievethe source of the problem but there is still 1,000,000 litres to go!

In 2000 the Auckland City Council conducted research to establish anAnti-Tag Graffiti campaign. Enviropaints LTD was given the opportunityto work in conjunction with them. After research & development it wasagreed to look at waste paint that was normally disposed of at landfills,and a recycling/recreating programme was delevoped.

Thirteen tonne’s of selected waste paint was retrieved in the first monthof operation in conjunction with the HazMobile collections in theAuckland region. These collections have steadily increased with up to10 tonnes per collection in the bigger cities now being collected.

Enviropaints not only focus on waste paint but can also uplift selectedoxides, pigments, solvents, resins and emulsions, which are alsorecycled.

The recycling process uses waste paint, combined and formulated withvirgin raw materials creating a totally new quality paint product suitablefor exterior and interior use. The end result of this innovative recyclingprocess brings about a new recreated cost efficient product suitablefor multiple uses.

Enviropaints collected, sorted and recreatedpaint initially into seven fashionable coloursto meet the Auckland City Council anti-tagprogramme. Trained contractors were giventhe contract to apply the recreated paint,using specialised equipment also suppliedby Enviropaints. The ongoing campaign hascreated a much cleaner city and reducedthe volumes of waste in the landfills.

Other regional councils thoughout NewZealand have since embarked on similarprogrammes, wi th t ra in ing f romEnviropaints.

Enviropaints-Anti Tagging Programme

Between 2000 and 2009 we have collected and recycled over 1,000,000 litres of waste paint.

• Farm Buildings

• Specialised Graffiti treatments

As a result of collecting waste paint, Enviropaints has also

reduced the volume of other waste material that would

normally go to landfills. For example metal tins are collected

and recycled as scrap metal, some of which are exported

overseas. Plastic pails are washed and dried, then go through

a specialised sorting process to put them into recycling

grades. The pails are then granulated and diverse ranges

of new buckets are produced.

Enviropaints is the only TRUE recycler andrecreator of waste paint in New Zealand.

Currently waste paint is collected from councils and

PlaceMakers stores around New Zealand. Because we

manufacture more paint than the Councils can use,

Enviropaints is also available to the public through 55

PlaceMakers stores and other Enviropaints retailers.
