Reminder:

4-H has implemented an enrollment or participation fee. Students enrolled between September 1 and Oc-tober 31 of the 4-H year, the fee is $20. If enrollment is November 1st to August 31st, this fee is $25. Checks can be brought by the Extension office or paid to your club manager. Checks need to be made

out to ‘4-H Adult Leaders’, there is no fee for adults to enroll as members.

You must be an ‘Active’ 4-H member to participate in any 4-H competition or activity. This includes show-ing under 4-H at the County Fair.

Family & Consumer Projects

Consumer Decision Making

Teaches 4-Hers to make wise decisions when comparison shopping. Project activi-ties will focus on the economy, money man-agement, consumer rights and responsibili-ties, and the environment. Some items we will be comparing in judging classes are: cell phones, digital cameras, watches, movie rentals, and digital media players. Boys and girls contact your 4-H Leader or Te resa Pe t ko f f , County Extension Agent—FCS and we will get started.

District & 4-H Consumer Decision Making Con-

test:

1. Saturday, March 2, 2013(Morning) at McLen-nan Community College—Emergency Services Education Center in Waco. Registration is due Monday, February 18, 2013.

2. Participants must be actively participating in the 4-H Consumer Education Project.

3. Judging Teams from Freestone County: Maximum = 3 Junior Teams, 3 Intermedi-ate Teams, and 3 Senior Teams. Maximum of 4 mem-bers, but not less than 3 members.

4-H Clothing & Textile Projects:

A “heads-up” on learning to sew and/or comparison buying in clothing. Boys and girls contact your 4-H Leader or Teresa Petkoff—County Extension Agent—FCS and we will get organized.

Freestone County 4-H Fashion Show & Storyboard Contest is Saturday, March 23, 2013.

District 8 4-H Fashion Show & Storyboard

Contests will be Friday, April 12, 2013 at Tarle-ton State University in Stephenville. Competition in Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Divisions with 4 categories each. (Freestone County can have 12 entries in Fashion Show, 2 entries in Natural Fiber Division (wool or cotton), and unlimited storyboards. March 25, 2013 all pa-perwork is due and April 1, 2013 Story-boards will be judged for District.

2013 4-H Quilt Challenge Contest and Community Service Project

The 4-H Quilt Challenge Contest and Community Service Project proud to announce the

changes to the statewide program that will allow more youth to be involved. The Quilt Chal-

lenge contest will be focusing on creation of quilts for two specific organizations, Project

Linus and Quilts of Valor. The Community Service portion of the Quilt Challenge will focus

on the creation and donation of blankets, afghans, and quilts to either Project Linus or a

local charity selected by the individual or group. If you are interested in this project area,

taken so far this year, because the spring photography

contest is just around the corner. The County contest is

open to all 4-H’ers , with the Senior age division entries

eligible to go to the State competition at Round Up.

Anyone wanting to show Broilers at the 2013 Freestone County Fair will need to have their orders and money in to the Extension Office no later than March 19th by 5 pm. The cost for one pen of 25 chicks will be $39.50. Checks need to be made payable to “Ag Program Acct.” The chicks will be available for pick up approximately May 1st or 2nd. Drawings: Will be held at the end of the event by shooter number.

Rules: No shot loads larger than 7 ½ or smaller than 9.

Safety violations will result in disqualification of shooter.

Refunds: Anyone choosing to withdraw from the shoot must do so by March 2

to receive a full refund. Refunds will be mailed at conclusion of the shoot.
