How are students identified for ELL?

Home Language Survey. The WIDA-ACCESS Placement Test (W-APT)

screener – Grade 1 (Second Semester) – Grade 8. IPT Oral in Spanish for Grades K-6. Pre-IPT Oral in English and Spanish - Preschool WIDA Model for Kindergarten and First Semester of

First Grade. Parent is notified if the student is qualified for ELL

services.

How often do students see their ELL/Bilingual teacher?

Dependent on child’s language proficiency level.

Kindergarten Program – Half-day with ELL support during the day.

Grades PK and K Resource- 30 minutes a day. Grades 1-5 Resource - 40 – 50 minutes daily. Grades 6 – 8 Program

• 45 minutes a day or one class period.• 2, 3, or 5 days a week.

What are students learning in the ELL/Bilingual classroom?

In the ELL/Bilingual classroom we focus on:– Speaking,– Listening,– Reading, and– Writing

THROUGH THE CONTENT AREAS.– Cognition – processing information naturally in

English.

This curriculum is for students who are new to the country.

How is the student’s English language acquisition monitored?

ELL teachers complete a progress report every trimester. This is sent home with report cards.

Anecdotal notes. Assist the General Education teachers in

grading. ACCESS for ELLs.

Academic Language Assessment. Taken in January.

Absences

Students are encouraged to attend school every day. However, if they are not feeling at their best, please call the school office to report their absence.

Vacations and extended time after school vacations are discouraged. It is important that students are in school daily.

Involvement Opportunities

Volunteering – Classroom teachers have sign-ups available Join the PTO – PTO meets on the third Wednesday of each

month and is very supportive of the school. Fremont Education Foundation – This group meets once a

month and is very supportive of the school. Classroom Parties – Classroom teachers have sign-ups

available to chair or assist with parties. Field Trips – Classroom Teachers will send home

information throughout the year regarding Field Trips. B-PAC (Bilingual – Parent Advisory Committee) Parent Involvement Nights for our Bilingual parents. Parent/Teacher Conferences

Please check your child’s backpack each night.

If there are questions about homework, please contact the classroom teacher or the ELL/Bilingual teacher.

Grades K-5 ELL teachers do not send home homework from ELL class.
