Message from the Head Teacher
The term is now in full swing and the children are loving their new topics. By the end of this term
they will be completing their work on Fry’s Chocolate in Upper KS2 and Hot Air Balloons in Yr 1—3.
They will then be moving on to looking at global topics based around climate change and sustain-
ability, obviously an essential focus in the world today. There will be more information on these top-
ics in the next class newsletters.
Children’s Absence Please ensure that when informing the school office of your child’s absence,
you state more than just ‘unwell’. For safeguarding and attendance reasons it is important that
more detail is provided such as high temperature, sickness and diarrhoea, chest infection etc. are
given. One key aspect of our information gathering is to see if there are patterns forming in reasons
for absence such as an outbreak of a certain illness such as norovirus or chicken pox for example.
Many thanks for your cooperation.
If you are collecting your child from school during school hours you MUST sign them out from the
school office before they go home with you. This is key for our records of who is onsite and if some-
one has left the site we know who with and where they have gone. Thank you for your cooperation.
Coronavirus There has obviously been a lot in the news about the coronavirus. We will do our ut-
most to continue to send out the guidance and recommendations that we receive from the DFE
and PHE and as a school we follow their guidance along with the Local Authority. As standard
practice children use hand gel twice daily around lunchtime to reduce the risk posed to our pupils
with allergies.
We shall be encouraging children to wash their hands with
soap and water more regularly throughout the day and will
be using the leaflet of ‘Let’s Wash our Hands’ to support the
correct washing procedure. There are a number of good vid-
eos online that support hand washing too, such as the News-
round clip given in this link. We thought it might be useful to
share the poster with you all to use at home too. We shall be
encouraging the use of tissues or the crook of the elbow when
sneezing as advised. There is a useful Newsround link to a vid-
eo sharing more on the virus at child appropriate levels which
may be useful.

ing up, a potato making competition and book fair. We can’t wait to see you all in your favourite book
characters outfits! There is also Bedtime stories at 5.30pm. Children to come back to school in their PJs for

Learning in Phoenix Class
Phoenix class have had another busy term beavering
away. We have had many highlights but our new topic
'What makes the perfect chocolate bar?' has really engaged
us. We started with a maths chocolate problem looking at
fractions of chocolate and how to combine groups to allow
us to eat the most chocolate! We have gone on to learn
about the ingredients of chocolate and where they come
from. After this we have learnt about the history of chocolate in Bristol - did you know that the first Easter
Egg was made in Bristol? We have also visited Frenchay museum to find out about the history of Fry's
and how it relates to Bristol and Frenchay. Our next step is to design our own chocolate bar!
Trip to the Frenchay Museum This week children in 3 clas-
ses have been lucky enough to go to the museum and meet
our schools previous Head teacher Mrs Thorne. They have
had an in-depth tour or the artefacts and learnt all about
how the Fry’s family are connected to Frenchay along with
the explorers and toys on show from the local area.
RSE Workshop Thank you for your responses for the best
times to hold a workshop on the changes in our Relationships
and Sex Education Programme (RSE). The results are below.
We shall hold the workshop on Tuesday 31st March at 5pm—
5.45pm. This will be for all parents to join together for a
presentation. This is then followed by an opportunity to meet class teachers to find out more on the spe-
cific lessons that will be taught and to watch the new video clips that we plan to show the children. This
will be a drop in session from 5.45pm—6.30pm. You will then also be able to ask any questions you wish
to. We would like as many as possible to attend as this is a new programme of lessons which we are im-
portant for you to know about. There will be some information sent home in addition to the workshops for
those who cannot attend but as with all these things it is bet-
ter to hold a discussion and explanation rather than just read-
ing things cold. We hope you will join us.
