Frequency Investigation on the amount of chairs there are in
each lift in the ski resort Beaver Creek
By Sebastian Blendow with the help of Mr. Dalesio
Due on Tuesday the 10th of March
My Investigation
• I chose to collect data on the amount of chairs there are in each lift in Beaver Creek.
• I chose to do this because I happened to be going to Beaver Creek over the holiday so it would be fairly easy to collect the data.
• I also chose this topic because it seems fun and I really enjoy skiing and there seems there will be a lot of skiing involved.
How I am going to do it
• The first and most basic way would be to just count the chairs however to save me the trouble I went down to the village and asked the ski guides if they had the data. They said that they might be able to dig it out in a couple of days and that I should call then. However they were not sure so I still counted. Halfway I called them and they had the data so I stopped counting.
Beaver Creek Beaver Creek is a famous American ski resort in the Vail Valley
area-sometimes known as the capital of American skiing. It is well known for being a very large resort with just under 150 trails spread out over 1,815 acres. However it only has 17 lifts and it only takes you 30 minutes to ski from on end of the resort to the other. Beaver Creek has 4 terrain parks and a half-pipe in it. Beaver Creek is also famous because it is known for having some of the best restaurants in all of America. Splendido is among them and it is known for having the best wine in the states. One final thing the makes the Beaver Creek ski resort really stand out from other ski resorts is the way that people take care of the skiers there. Each evening all the trails are groomed and during the day there are always at least 20 snow cats around grooming the trails. In addition to this there are always warnings put up if there are rocks or such, there are always ski guides in the trails if you need help and there is a ski ambulance system to take care of you if anything happens.

Mean and Median
• 18+23+27+79+113+ 117+127+134+134+ 137+139+153+165+ 176+178+194+198= 2112 17/2112=124.24
• The mean in 124.24 when rounded up
• 18, 23, 27, 79, 113, 117, 127, 134, 134, 137, 139, 153, 165, 176, 178, 194, 198
• 134 is in the middle of the numbers so it is the Median.
Mode and range
• 18, 23, 27, 79, 113, 117, 127, 134, 134, 137, 139, 153, 165, 176, 178, 194, 198
• 134 is the only number the occurs twice so 134 is the mode.
• 18, 23, 27, 79, 113, 117, 127, 134, 134, 137, 139, 153, 165, 176, 178, 194, 198
• 198-18=180• 180 is the range

What I learned from doing this investigation
• On average the lifts in Beaver Creek are fairly long.
• There are 17 working lifts in Beaver Creek and the majority of them are the modern 4 seat ones.
• I learned that there are 2112 chairs altogether in Beaver Creek
How/when could I use this data?
• I could use this data if I were a builder planning to reconstruct some of Beaver Creeks lifts. I would know which were the long lifts and which ones were short.
• I could use this if I were making a plan for my day then I would know which lifts were long and which were short.
