INTRODUCTION

It can be argued that Frequency Plan (Strategy) have direct impact not only Quality of Service but also on Spectrum Efficiency.

Hence effort is required to ensure maximum possible utilization of the limited bandwidth available.

Optimizer tool is available for Automatic Frequency Plan (AFP) and can also be used to select the best of several plans. Here we focus basically on Validation of Frequency Plans using ATOLL .

This will be of help in daily optimization process and for Network Wide AFP activity.

It is important to be certain that the output of any change will give a better Quality before implementation.

Changing Frequency, Azimuth, Tilts will give likely output

OPEN PROJECT AND UPDATE COORDINATE SYSTEM

It is assumed that the tool is available with required license

“GSM GPRS EGPRS” is selected in window above to display an open map view.Tools > Options displays query box below where units and coordinate system is updated

IMPORT DIGITAL MAP

It is assumed that digital map is available for the area.

The path “FILE > Import “ gives the Query to select the folder where Map is located and view is as above. Each of the folders “Clutter” and “Heights” will have an object named “index.txt” this will be selected in each case and respective object selected as below.

Altitude HeightsClutter Class Clutter

A view similar to next slide is seen under Geo tab and project can be saved as desired

IMPORT DIGITAL MAP

Above is an example of Clutter Map and below is Altitude/ Digital Terrain Model. “View Legend Window displays the legend “

UPDATE CLUTTER LOSSES

Right click on Clutter Class under Geo Tab will give the view to input Clutter losses in case of indoor prediction

3 Tabs will be noticed at the upper left part of the tool as below:

Data: All sites information can be foundGeo: Geographical information can be foundModules: Add-in tools can be found e.g Propagation Models

PROPAGATION MODEL

Selection and Propagation model is of great importance but has to be done carefully once on a project. It is important that this is tuned to conform with Drive Test output/Link Budget for the area to ensure output is closest to real life scenario

MANAGING TABLES

Additional Field can be added to the tables as below when required with a right click on the header.

Below is view of Query (TRX+BTS) from DUMP to show BTS Name, BCCH TRX, Frequency and TRX ID.

MANAGING TABLES

SITES Table: Site Name, Coordinate.

TRANSMITTER table: Site Name, Transmitter ID, Antenna Type, Azimuth, Height, Mechanical Tilt, Electrical Tilt, Max (coverage) range, EIRP/Power, Propagation Model, Reception Threshold

TRX Table: Transmitter, Index, TRX ID (from Dump), TRX Type, Channel (frequency)

ANTENNA Type: Antenna Pattern information should be requested from the Antenna supplier and imported into the tool for a best output.

Important Update required are as below

FREQUENCY USAGE

Besides Carrier to Interference prediction, First check for a good Frequency plan is Frequency Reuse. This must be harmonious and all channels should be used almost equally.

Here, use of Channel 1 need to be reduced

dedeedede

CARRIER TO INTERFERENCE PREDICTIONdedeedede

Right Click on Predictions New Coverage by C/I Level

Display page is as below but can be modified. The approach is to eliminate C/I value less than 9dB

© Nokia 2014

CARRIER TO INTERFERENCE PREDICTIONdedeedede

Right Click on Coverage by “C/I Level Calculate “ to begin the prediction

C/I ANALYSIS AND REPORT GENERATIONdedeedede

Interest is to improve the coverage where People reside. Below is view of clutter map of the area

Analysis at selected point shows that B14482 is interfered by B12901 which are the best servers in the area

© Nokia 2014

C/I ANALYSIS AND REPORT GENERATIONdedeedede

Right Click on Coverage by “C/I Level Generate Report “

Report helps show which area we need to focus for frequency retune and level of impact

CELL PARAMETER MODIFICATIONdedeedede

Right Click on cell Properties“ to display cell Parameters

On the Transmitter Tab, antenna parameters can be modified Azimuth, Elect Tilt, Mech Tilt while Frequency can be modified on TRX Tab

Prediction need to be regenerated once any of the above is modified to view possible improvement
