BIRTHDAY Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907 in
the house of her parents, known as La Casa Azul.
La Casa Azul means the blue house. Which it is, the house is very blue.
Frida Kahlo eventually told people she was born in 1910 so that they would remember her associated with the Mexican Revolution.

BEGINNING OF PAINTING After the accident, Frida Kahlo
was immobile and had to stay in bed for a few months.
During this time she took up painting.
Most of her paintings are self-portraits that portray her pain in life.
She once said "I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality."

she died. The movie Frida, naturaleza viva (1983) was
about Frida’s life. It was a huge success. Kahlo's work was not widely recognized until
years after her death. Often she was remembered only as Diego Rivera’s wife.
Until the early 1980s, when the artistic movement in Mexico, the Neomexicanismo began she was not a famous painter.
