Dear Parents,

Thank you for attending parents evening, it was so nice to have the opportunity to share how your child’s has settled this half term.

Next half term we have a Mathematics and Mathletics in the Early Years workshop on Wednesday 9th November from 2:30, look out for information in the Early Years building.

Area What we have learnt Ideas to support at homeTopic/Literacy

The Messy Monsters came into the playground and made a huge mess! We worked together as a team to tidy things away and set about making wanted posters to find the Messy Monsters.

Make a poster for your bedroom, think about the message you want to write (e.g. Betty’s room) and use your robot arms to sound the words out.

Phonics We have learnt the following phonemes:m (as in mat), d (as in dog), g (as in gate) and o (as in octopus).

Using tiles (see below) hold up individually for child to say the sound. Lay out tiles randomly then ask child to point to a given sound. Combine tiles to build words e.g. pat. Practise letter formation.

Mathematics

We have been looking measuring length. We used cubes to measure how long our hands are. We also talked about estimating as predicting how long something might be.

Compare the length of different objects around the house, use mathematical language to describe e.g. longer, shorter, the same.

Reading Each child has their own reading record and 3 books to share at home. Please make sure your child’s book bag is in school so the books can be changed.

Don’t forget to make a comment in your child’s reading record so we can gauge the children’s progress and confidence over the half term holiday.

Thank you for your support,

Melissa Ward and Cecilia Del Corso
