We want you….. and your opinions about the school. That’s right, it’s that time of year again when we are looking to get feedback from you as our com-munity, on how we run the school. The areas you like, and those you’d like to see evaluated. This survey is voluntary, anonymous and easy to use. Even better, you can skip any questions that you are not comfortable answering. It is a survey that all schools across NSW have access to and we’ve even added some questions especially targeted for our school. All you need to do is type the following URL into the search bar and follow the prompts. The survey is currently open and will close 26 October 2018. If you have any questions please phone the office on 02 6025 1157. https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/leps2018 Thank you for your assistance in making Lavington East Public School an even better place for your children to attend. Assistant Principal’s Message Another busy term draws to a close… It’s hard to believe there is only one term to go and our wonderful Year 6 students will be off to high school! Lots of organisation goes on behind the scenes to ensure successful transition. This includes organising attendance at activities at the high schools, communicating with high school staff, and workshops provided by internal and external providers to assist our students to understand some of the social, emotional and academic challenges to come. Our sincere thanks to Mrs Crowhurst, Miss Stechiwskyj, Miss McQuade, Miss Smith and Mrs Rudebeck for their dedication in supporting our students. Thanks also to Mrs Burns, Mrs Bartlett and Miss Kellow for their work in ensuring the smooth transition of our Kindergarten students for 2019. They have been visiting pre-schools, meeting students and talking with staff. We are excited to have the EALD Playgroup commencing early next term. Mrs Johnson has done a wonderful job in organising fabulous activities for families to enjoy and connect together. As always, our highly skilled and dedicated SASS staff have been doing a fabulous job sup-porting staff, students and families. They have been engaged in professional learning through-out this term to enhance their skills in the many facets of their school administration duties. NAPLAN results were sent out today for students in Year 3 and 5. NAPLAN assesses some aspects of Literacy and Numeracy, is a snapshot of student learning and should be considered with other school-based assessments. We have been very fortunate to have the expertise of Mr Jason Weaven who stepped into the Relieving Principal role this year. He has worked tirelessly, and provided strong leadership and direction to the whole school community. As per Department of Education procedures, a recent merit selection process occurred for the vacant position of Principal. The Director has asked that we announce that the successful candidate is Mrs Nichole Williams, who will be visiting LEPS in Term 4 to meet with staff and parents. Many thanks to our amazing staff, who have worked so hard to ensure that all students are catered for, have the opportunity to improve their learning and are supported in their well-being. We wish everyone a safe and happy break, and look forward to returning on Monday, 15 October for the commencement of the final term of the school year. Vicki Crowhurst and Carolyn O’Connell

A reminder to all students and families that from the start of Term 4, all students are expected to wear their ‘sun safe’ broad brimmed school hat to access the un-covered playing areas. The wearing of hats such as baseball style hats, are not part of the school policy relating to our school uniform, or regarded by Depart-mental policy as ‘sun safe’. Please ensure that your child’s hat is clearly labelled on the inside with their name for easy identification should their hat become misplaced. There continues to be a considerable amount of clothing, particularly school jack-ets that have accumulated over the past two terms. We encourage students and families to check the lost property outside the teachers’ staff room for any missing items, before the end of the term.

Selected Schools Application -

Applicable to current Year 5 students

Applications are now available on line for students currently in Year 5, whose parents would like to enrol them in a selective high school in 2020.

Selective high schools cater for high achieving academically gifted students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic and social level. These schools help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, using specialised teaching methods and materials at the appropriate level.

Year 7 enrolments are available in:

eighteen fully selective high schools (there are no selective high schools within Albury)

twenty-four partially selective high schools

four agricultural high schools, three of which have boarding places where students live at the school for the school term.

one virtual secondary school, Aurora College, for students in rural and remote areas.

Enrolment application forms are available on line with the website open from 9 October 2018. The placement process is administered by the High performing Students Unit referred to as the Unit. The Unit’s website can be found at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7 (Parents are also asked to notify the school if intending to complete an application for their child.)
