Dear Parents and Friends, Student Survey Results Our Year 4-6 students all completed a DET annual survey earlier in May this year and our results are outstanding. Over the years, the results have continued to steadily improve with our school goals being met for 2019. Our commitment to supporting and developing students’ social and emotional wellbeing is paramount and we highly value the social capabilities domain in which we educate our youngsters at school. Please see the included graphs which highlight our excellent data this year.
Sunsmart– Hats On from 1 September From the 1st September, it’s ‘hats weather’. In accordance with our Sun Smart policy, hats must be worn to and from school, including recess and lunchtimes from 1 September. Please ensure you locate your child’s hat in readiness for the next 9 months of protection from the harmful UV rays as we head into spring and summer. Hats are available for purchase for $10 from the office. CONTINUED PAGE 2...

Father’s Day Stall Our Father’s Day Stall will be held
Thursday 29th August. All students will be given the opportunity to purchase gifts for their dad,
grandpa or special person with prices ranging from $2 to $10. We ask that all children bring to school a reusable or plastic bag for their gift to
be placed in and each child brings their own money in a purse/wallet or
envelope. Grades buy at different times during the day and items for sale are evenly distributed between
grades.
SUNSMART—Hats On from 1st September
A reminder our school is a SUNSMART School.
From September 1st all students are required to wear a wide brimmed school
hat when outside at school.
Hats can be purchased from the school office for $10.
Orders for the next issue of Book Club are due:
Friday 6th September.
To order simply go to
https://mybookclubs.scholastic.com.au.
Or bring your order with correct cash enclosed to the school office.
Once ordered your books will be delivered to the school and distributed to your child.
Thank you to families who ordered from the previous issue. Each item purchased through Book Club earns valuable
reward dollars for our school.
Grazie for Italian Day Congratulazioni to our school community for the fantastic celebration of all things Italian yesterday; Arts & Crafts, Cooking, Bocce, Games, Italian Performance and a special lunch of pizza and gelato. Senior Fabio was overwhelmed by the joy of the students in the yard, their smiles and their positive feedback, with some of the preps calling this ‘the best day of their life’. I thank Senor Fabio for his thorough planning of our Italian Day, ensuring it was an incredible team effort of fun, learning and engagement for all. Grazie and Congratulazioni to all involved. I hope all families have a wonderful weekend. Kind Regards, Mrs Clark Principal Frankston Heights Primary School
Frankston Heights Spelling Championship
Our annual spelling bee is about to begin! Every year students practise their spelling skills which culminate with a ‘Spell Off’ to decide each class champions. The class champions then go on to a whole school Spell Off to find
our school champion. Students will be tested at appropriate levels for both the classroom and whole school challenges. A copy of the Spelling Champions Booklet is available on the school website:
www.frankstonhts-ps.vic.edu.au under the ‘Students/Student Resource’ tab
If you have any questions please see your class teacher.

Top 10 cyber safety tips
1. Care about the Share Social media wants you to share as much as you can bear! But the share should be rare. NEVER share:
passwords, private/personal information, your location.
2. Privacy Matters If you care about the share, you’ll protect your privacy, no matter what. Regularly check your privacy settings on
social media, and always think before you post. It’s amazing where data ends up – usually all over the internet.
3. Respect the Privacy of Others Treat others’ privacy as you would your own. Ask for your friends’ permission before uploading
photos and videos of them. It’s not all about you, amiright?
4. Keep Everything Updated Any idea what causes the most security breaches on the internet? Software that isn ’t up-to-date.
Seems crazy simple, but it’s true! Be vigilant about updating software, including apps, anti-virus and even the humble browser.
5. Spam, Spam, Spam, Spammidy-spam Even with the best anti-spam and malware software – that’s up-to-date – spam is the
modern version of junk mail. It’s everywhere! Learn how to tell the difference between real emails and messages, and dodgy things with dodgy links. Sometimes they don’t look so dodgy...always be suspicious of hyperlinks in emails.
6. Control the Troll Within There be trolls out there – beware! Don’t feed them, don’t give them what they want: an angry
response. Block/Report the trolls. But also: resist the inner troll. If you’re not adding something to the debate online, don’t bother. Don’t be part of the problem.
7. Cyberbullying and Harassment If you’re being targeted by this kind of behaviour, know what you can do, and where you can get
help. Visit the National Centre Against Bullying website and the Office of the eSafety Commissioner's website.
8. Keep Your Friends Close and Strangers at Arm’s Length Do you know how many true friends most people have? Three. Yup,
those four thousand and fifty-two Facebook ‘friends’ are a combination of acquaintances, people-you-met-once, people-you-can’t-remember-meeting-once, and probably, some ‘randoms’. They don’t need to know what you had for breakfast, or what concert you went to last night, do they?
9. Feel the Flow – Keep Your Life in Balance Technology is incredible. Gaming, networking, apps…online shopping! But make sure
you take time out and find the right balance for you. Too long on tech can put the world out of whack.
10. Have Fun, Friend Always remember to chill out and keep things in perspective. There’s too much information online to take it all
in! Focus on each moment, and enjoy.
