Look out for...Saturday 30 July - 5 August Thursday 28 July

The Knowledge Emporium The Edge

Local community members perform with dynamic theatre company Slung Low in this original production based on the knowledge shared and gathered at The Knowledge Emporium – an old-fashioned sweet shop in a 1960s airstream caravan!

The Knowledge Emporium will be parked outside Corby Cube from Sat 30 July to Fri 5 August from 11am to 3pm. Everyone is invited to share their knowledge: a fascinat-ing fact, a family recipe, a hidden shortcut – absolutely anything. In return, you will get sweets and a chance for your own knowl-edge to feature in the fi nal performance.

What if you were on the edge of disaster and the very existence of your town was at stake? What would you do during the fi nal hours of Corby?

This new, fast paced adrenaline-fuelled play from acclaimed writer Chris O’Connell (Car, Raw, Kid), is devised in collaboration with young local performers and explores split-second, life altering moments.

The Edge Thu 28 July, The Core

Corby BoroughCouncil Sports

The Olympic and Paralympic legacy is all about celebrating culture, the arts and sport and encouraging people to take part and get active. Several of the town’s sports clubs and physical activity groups will be demonstrating their sport or activity and asking the community to fi nd out more information about their sessions and take part in their activities.

Demonstrations include Table Tennis, Cheerleading, Judo, Netball and Nordic Walking. There will also be a Boxing ring in the town centre with regular Boxing displays during the day.

Sunday 24

Places in Time

Places in Time is a collective expression to cover the creative activities of Glassball over the course of the Our Corby project. From exploring working lives, discovering tales of living history, working with archive cine fi lm and photographs, to hearing people’s thoughts of all things Corby, artworks inspired by these investigations will be on display on site hoardings opposite the Cube and along the now empty shopping centre on Elizabeth Street. Along with these installations, you can have the chance to sample the new audio tour for Corby and to continue to add to the growing archive of material by creating your own postcards for Corby during the Open Weekend. www.placesintime.info

Our Young Corby Heritage Centre, Corby Old Village from 5th July.

As part of the Our Corby project, media students from Kingswood School have been working with writer Joel Stickley and digital artists Tom Keene and Kypros Kyprianou to create an amazing collection of fi lms, images and animations inspired by Corby’s history. From ghost stories to reminiscences to alien invasions, this is Corby as you’ve never seen it before.

Our Corby

Inspired by recently-discovered photographic collections documenting Corby’s history from the 1880s to the 1980s, Open Weekend brings you everything from fi lm premieres to readings of commissioned work from exciting and talented local writers. Our Corby celebrates a proud past alongside new work that brings the story right up to date.

Saturday 23

Joel Stickley

Our Corby Writer-In-Residence Joel Stickley performs work inspired by Corby’s past and present, accompanied on the big screen by never before seen photos of Corby through history. Expect heroic bin men, phantom theme parks and a taste of local football in 1912.

Sunday 24

Word Furnace featuring 24 Hour Corby

A summer special of The Core’s regular Spoken Word event, showcasing work commissioned for the Our Corby project. As well as new work from host and writer-in-residence Joel Stickley, Word Furnace will be welcoming critically-acclaimed midlands poet Kevin Fegan and premiering the new fi lm 24 Hour Corby, created by a team of local people working alongside digital artists Glassball.
