Dear Parents and Carers
I hope you have had a great week-the one adjective we could use is ‘Soggy.’
We were delighted to welcome Dan Callow, a songwriter and performer, and Emily his fellow performer, to our Retreat Day. This day was used as an opportunity to reflect on the gifts we are given and to give thanks for them.
I was absolutely moved by the schools singing and how they threw themselves into the day. I was also hugely impressed by the responses given by pupils in the discussion parts of the day. Some of the answers showed some deep reflection and great understanding of belief and symbolism, causing Dan and Emily to ask if any of our pupils had a degree in Theology and Philosophy?
Whether our pupils are Catholic or not, have a faith or not -Tuesday was a day that I very clearly saw the impact of a Cath-olic education on them all. There was a huge sense of belong-ing and community. It was a day as far removed from national curriculum levels, performance tables, SATs results and OF-STED inspections that you could ever get, but it felt like our most important school day of the year so far.
Do check out our posts on Twitter for a record of the day.

helpful.
5EO Charlotte Smith for her excellent temperature recording.

6NW Christa Vincent for always being cheerful and for contributing to multiple activities within
school and for 6NW.
6DM Ella Kangurs for putting so much effort into English.
6DS Spencer Mayne for trying really hard and persevering in his lesson on Fractions this
week
6AW Gerald Vincent for always having a positive attitude.
6VSB Noah Barker for having a very positive attitude to learing and helping others .
On Monday, 22 January, St Bede’s hosted its first Year 8 badminton match against Woodfield.
Woodfield brought some really good players but all of our pupils were able to successfully come through their games with a win.
The team finished undefeated at the end and showed that all their hard work and practice at lunchtimes is paying off!
Well done to Paulina, Julia, Kinga, Hollie, Charlie, Callum, Alfie and Zain, who all played brilliantly and pocketed a great result for St Bede’s!

French Trip Update
All pupils will need to have with them an EHIC card, as requested on the last letter given.
Please click on the link below to order yours, this is the correct site to use and the card is free to order. Some sites will charge £5 or even £10 when actually, this is a free medical card. We still need it for now and it needs to be in date as England is still part of EU.
Thank you,
Miss Clavelou

On Wednesday night, Year 8 welcomed Walkwood in the district basketball. After their win against Ipsley the week before, the boys were keen to continue their good form and they did just that, beating Walkwood 62-4 in another strong performance. Lewis top scored this week, scoring 20 points with Jim close behind on 18 points. Well done also to Leo, Will, Hassan, George, Tom and Owen, who was there in spirit. There are still lots of things to improve but as a team the boys are relishing a top of the table clash next week against Woodrush. Thank you also to Julia and Kinga who scored the game.

Year 5 - ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’
Year 6 - ‘Artemis Fowl’
Year 7 - ‘A Monster Calls’*
Year 8 - ‘Holes’.
*Please be aware that the Year 7 book has wonderful reviews and is classed as being suited for children the ages of 9-13 on Accelerated Reading but it does, however, follow the story of a young boy whose mother is suffering from a terminal illness. If you have a child in Year 7 who you think would be upset by this issue due to personal experience, please do let their form tutor know so that we can speak with the child individually beforehand.

Mini Vinnies Weekly Update #14
@BedesRE
26th January 2018
On Monday this week the Mini Vinnies made the sandwiches once again for the SK which took
place on the Tuesday 23rd January. We made over 160 tasty sandwiches of luncheon meat,
cheese and chicken which will be used to help feed so many hungry people in Birmingham City
centre.
As part of our ongoing work and Monday meetings, Next Monday 29th January, the group shall
be looking at ways in which we will be helping to raise funds for the SVP during our Lenten
Charities Day in February and what outreach we shall be involved with during the Season of
Lent.
More updates to follow. Keep reading and pray for us as we continue to be faith-filled, hopeful
for the future and as we live our lives as curious and active Mini Vinnies!

Catholicity Update
Holocaust Memorial Day 2018
The Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (HMDT) is the
charity that promotes and supports Holocaust Me-
morial Day (HMD). 27 January is the day for every-
one to remember the six million Jews murdered
in the Holocaust, and the millions of people killed
in Nazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides
in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur.
27 January marks the liberation of Auschwitz-
Birkenau, near Kracow in Poland which was the
largest Nazi death camp.
You can find more information about the HMD
Trust and its work by going on their website:
www.hmd.org.uk
Our prayer this week:
Let us pray for all who suffer from hatred and
prejudice, from abuse and ill treatment, and for
all who are victims of other people. Let us pray
too, for the people of violence, that they may
change their ways and learn to respect others.
Let us pray for ourselves that when we face what
is negative or evil, we may have the courage and
generosity to break the cycle of violence, taking
responsibility for the direction in which we want
our lives to go. Let us pray that we may always
do to others as we would wish them to do to us.
Amen.
A prayer by Brother Nicholas Hutchinson FSC
