    Angry protests at alleged

'rendition' of Shk. Faisal to Gambia

Muslim Human Rights Forum (MHRF) Executive Coordinator, Al Amin Kimathi (left) presents a petition to Immigration Minister Otieno Ka-

jwang (right), condemning the deportation of Jamaican Muslim Cleric, Sheikh Abdullah Al Faisal (inset on extreme right).

Muslims have angrily responded to the move by the Kenyan gov-

ernment to arrest and deport a prominent Muslim preacher, Sheikh

Abdullah Ibrahim Al Faisal to Gambia.

Human rights ofcials said that Sheikh Faisal could have been ren-

ditioned to Gambia against his own will.

Al Amin Kimathi, the Executive Coordinator of Muslim Human

Rights Forum (MHRF) said that Sheikh Al Faisal had initially wished

to be sent back to his country Jamaica.

Al Amin said that the last message we had from Sheikh Fasial was,

"I do not want to be taken to any other country apart from Jamaica"

and he wondered why the government could take such an action.

Immigration Minister Otieno Kajwang said that the decision to send

Sheikh Faisal to Gambia was arrived at on his own will and be-

cause that country had accepted to receive him. He said that theywanted to send him to back to Jamaica but no government was

willing to have him transit through their airports. "He(Faisal) chose

Gambia and we facilitated him to go there", he said.

However, Al Amin said that human rights ofcials were hard pressed

to believe that Sheikh Faisal would wish to be sent to Gambia,

which he termed as a "key violator of human rights".

Senior Counsel Harun Ndubi, the Lawyer representing Sheikh Fais-

al questioned the deportation of Sheikh Faisal to Gambia and won-

dered why the deportation orders were only being effected against

    Muslims.

He also demanded for documentation evidence from the Minister

to prove that Sheikh Faisal had been deported to Gambia at his

    own will.

Muslims leaders said that it was unfortunate that the governmentwas using selective justice when dealing with Muslims- that they

are condemned to be guilty before being presented before a court

of law, unlike people of other religions in the country.

Sheikh Faisal who is a Jamaican national was arrested last week

by Anti Terror Police Unit (ATPU) on Thursday December 31, after

Maghrib prayers in a Nyali Mosque where he had also delivered

a lecture. The police claimed that although the Sheikh was given

a Kenyan visa to tour the country he had not been permitted to

    preach.

In Mombasa, Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK),

Secretary General, Shiekh Muhammad Dor hit at the ATPU saying

that they were bent on harassing Muslim Scholars.

Speaking to The Friday Bulletinon phone he wondered why ATPU

was giving conicting statements about Sheikh Faisal and said that

this was a clear indication that they did not have any valid reason

    for arresting him.

The head of ATPU, Inspector Rop had initially told us that they

were holding him for breach of Immigration regulations but later onImmigration Minister changed the tone and said that they held him

because he was on a 'US terror watch list', he noted.

Sheikh Dor said he had met with Sheikh Faisal while he was being

held at Port Police station in Mombasa who

told him that before arriving in the country

on 24 December 2009 from Tanzania, he

    had visited Nigeria, Angola, Mozambique,

Swaziland and Malawi, where he freely

interacted with Muslims and delivered lec-

tures in more than 300 mosques.

Sheikh Dor questioned why no other gov-

ernment in those countries had arrested

the scholar if he had committed any crimi-

nal activity. In a statement posted on theinternet the Jamaican government where

Sheikh Faisal hails from, has also stated

he has not committed any crime.

    Lectures for Muslim girls

Prophet Muhammad (salla Allahu alayhiwasallam) said, "Whoever resembles apeople is one of them." (Recorded by AbuDawud)This is a very important principle in the Sha-riah. The famous scholar Ibn Taymiyyahonce wrote that it is part of the goal of theshariah to distinguish those people who fol-low the straight path from all other people.

A look at the Quran and the hadith of theProphet (salla Allahu alayhi wasallam) willshow us that we Muslims are not supposedto imitate or be blind followers of any otherpeoples. We have our own unique guidanceand this is what we must turn to. There aredifferent hadith that clearly state that weare supposed to be different from the Jews,Christians, Romans, Persians, Magians,

polytheists, people of jaahiliyyah, bedouinswho had not embraced Islam completelyand so forth.

After hearing this long list of groups onewill realise the following: We Muslims area unique people. We take our way of life, our values and our customs only from Al-lah's guidance - the Quran and the Sun-nah - and the way of the believers. We don'tcare what other people may follow. In fact,in our hearts, we have no desire whatsoeverto follow them or to be like them. We wantto be like the true believers and only the truebelievers. In fact, we pray for this in every rakah of

every prayer we perform. In every prayer,we state, "Guide us to the straight path -the path of those whom You have blessed".Quran (Al Fatihah, 1:6).Unfortunately, many people make that du'aaand they do not realise who are those peo-ple whose path we are asking Allah to guideus to. By our actions, sometimes, we makeit very clear that we are not sincere to thatdu'aa that we make at least seventeen timesa day! When we make that du'aa we must re-alise that we are asking Allah to guide us tothe path of certain people - those who haveearned Allah's pleasure and grace. They arethe ones whom Allah has described else-

where in the Quran,"And who ever obeys Allah and the Mes-senger, then they will be in the company ofthose on whom Allah has bestowed Graceof the Prophets, the sincere, the martyrs andthe righteous. And how excellent these com-panions are". Quran (An-Nisaa, 4: 69)

These are the people whose path we faceAllah seventeen times a day and beseechHim to guide us to. It is very sad that todaymany Muslims are striving and working hardto follow the footsteps of the opposite peo-ple - the people that they ask Allah againstfollowing. We also say in al-Faatiha,

"Not the path of those who have earned Yourwrath nor of those who have gone astray"Quran (Al-Faatiha, 1:7)These people whose path we are seekingto avoid are none other than the Jews andChristians, in particular, as the Prophet (sal-la Allahu alayhi wasallam) explained.

It is amazing today, that we are calling uponeach other to follow in the footsteps of thosewho have earned Allah's wrath and thosethat went astray. Don't you realise that theygained their place in this society by means

that are completely unacceptable in Islam?Do you want us to behave like them andyou think that Allah will be pleased with usif we behave like them? Don't you see thatby their means they have actually given upa great deal of their faith and done manythings that go against their own teachings?

There is an expression that states that, "imi-tation is the sincerest form of attery". Thefact is that an individual would not imitateand follow another unless he has some re-spect or love for what that other person isand what he is doing. Or, perhaps, he hasthe desire to be one of them and he does

not want to be an outsider as he may nothave enough iman and courage to showhimself for what he should be: a Muslim, be-lieving in and submitting to God.

When this desire to imitate and follow theways of the disbelievers happens to a Mus-lim, it is a very sad thing. It is a sign that thereis some weakness or defect in his iman andin his heart - otherwise he would never de-sire or aspire to be like those who displease

Allah and are destined to the Hellre.

Following the ways of the disbelievers - asopposed to the ways of the believers - andtrying to come close to them is actually one

of the characteristics of the hypocrites. Allahsays, "Give to the hypocrites the tidings thatthere is for them a painful torment. Thosewho take disbelievers for protectors andhelpers instead of believers. Do they seekhonour with them? Verily, all honour is with

Allah (alone)" Quran (An-Nisaa, 4: 138-139)This is exactly what many of those who imi-tate them are doing. One of the main rea-sons why one imitates and appears like thedisbelievers is that he wants to be accepted, liked or respected by them. He does notwant to be looked down upon by them asan outside or as one from a different religion

and way of life. But Allah says,"Verily all honour is with Allah (alone)"Quran (An-Nisaa, 4: 139)The only one that a believer should try toplease is Allah - and this is achieved not bytrying to be like the disbelievers but it comesabout by following the Quranand Sunnah ofthe Prophet Muhammad (salla Allahu alayhiwasallam). In reality, the acceptance andapproval of the disbelievers should really, inessence, mean nothing in the eyes of a truebeliever. In the sight of Allah, they have novalue or honour. Allah states in the Quran:"Honour belongs only to Allah, His Mes-senger and the believers" Quran (Al-Mu-

naaqoon, 63:8)A hadith of the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhiwasallam) demonstrates that they are worthnothing in the sight of Allah. That is why Al-lah gives them of this world and in the Here-after they will be nothing but fuel for theHellre.

This fuel of the Hellre are the ones thatmany Muslims are imitating today, chasingafter their customs and fads, trying to pleasethem and win their approval. A Muslim mustrealise clearly in his mind that all of these

disbelievers are worshipping false gods, other humans or their egos and desires. These are the people who some Muslimsare following, imitating and bending overbackwards to please.

Allah has said in the Quran: "Thus We havemade you a just and balanced nation, thatyou may be witnesses over mankind and theMessenger be witness against you". Quran(Al-Baqarah, 2: 143)We are supposed to be witnesses againstmankind. We are supposed to be witnessesto the truth of Islam and its superiority overevery other way of life. We should be show-ing people that we are the true followers of

Allah's guidance and that what we have isthe best guidance for mankind. If this is trulyin our hearts, we would not turn to the waysof the disbelievers and imitate them.

How can we be witnesses of Islam againsthumanity when, instead of showing that webelieve in Islam and love it and demonstrateits greatness, we give up our ways andcustoms of Islam to follow the ways of thedisbelievers? I cannot tell you how manytimes I have been asked by non-Muslims,"If your religion is the truth and so wonder-ful, why are so many Muslims abandoningyour teachings and following the ways of the

West in their own countries?" What answercan be given to that question?

We see this phenomena of Muslims imitat-ing the ways of non-Muslims in many ways. The following are all examples of this phe-nomena: Muslim men shaving their beardsto be like their clean-shave Western col-leagues that they respect so dearly. Muslimmen giving up the modest attire that wasfound in every Muslim country for the tight-est pants and latest fashions of the West.Muslim women giving up the Islamic hijaaband come out in public dressing in the latestWestern fashions. In some parts of the Muslim world, even thedenition of beauty and cleanliness is de-ned according to the disbelievers and notaccording to the Quran and Sunnah. SomeMuslims today believe that having a beard isunclean. They think that to be clean shaveimplies being clean, civilized, and proper. Isthis what the Prophet Muhammad (salla Al-lahu alayhi wasallam) has taught us aboutthe beard? Is this how the Prophet (salla Al-lahu alayhi wasallam) and his Companionsviewed the beard?

    Half kg- rice

    3/4 kg green lentils

    coconut milk

    A pinch of salt

Soak the lentils overnight, in the morning, wash and drain. then

put to cook with just enough water to keep them simmering over

a low heat until nearly done.

Add the thin coconut milk and cook for a little while together.

Then add the rice. Continue to simmer slowly until both the rice

    and lentils are "mushy".

Add the thick coconut milk, stir round to mix, and simmer for a

few moments. This can be kept warm in the oven, or served at

    once.

Mseto can be served with any curry dish, but goes particularlywell with a curry of sh or prawns. This recipe can also be made

with coarsely-ground lentils in which case the overnight soaking

    will not he necessary.

Sparkling gems in their own times, they continue to glisten beyondtheir age, making their appeal everlasting. Each one a legend inher own right. What are the most famous women of today celebrated for? Those

held up as role models for the modern woman include actresses, singers, footballers WAGs (wives and girlfriends) and glamourmodels - all celebrated for their physical appeal. Very rarely willa woman be deemed successful for other than what is really justsupercial and then, as is often the case, when she ages and herphysical features fade, she will fall out of favour with the media andyounger women will replace her as the icons of their era.

But Allah shows us in His Book that a woman is so much more thanthe outer shell that is her body. Our history is replete with examplesof great women who were gems of their times and whose sparklingappeal is timeless. Islam demonstrates for us that the truly suc-cessful are those of integrity who fulll the purpose of their creationand rise to the challenges that are presented to them throughoutlife with tenacity, thereby gaining the pleasure of their Creator andeverlasting victory in the next life.

Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said in an authen-tic Hadith, 'The best women from the people of Jannah are Khadijahbint Khuwaylid, Fatima daughter of Muhammad, Aasiya bint Muz-aahim - the Wife of Pharoah and Maryam daughter of Imran, may

Allah be pleased with them all.'(Musnad Ahmad).

In fact Allah specically mentions two of these great women in theQuran, as role models for believing men as well as women. In Su-rah at-Tahreem Allah says, And Allah has set forth an example forthose who believe: The wife of Pharaoh, when she said: "My Lord!Build for me a home with you in Paradise, and save me from thePharaoh and his actions, and save me from the people who areoppressors.

And Maryam, the daughter of Imran who guarded her chastity. Andwe breathed into the sleeve of her garment through our Ruh, and

she testied to the truth of the words of her Lord and believed in Hisbooks and was of those who are obedient to Allah. So what were the characteristics that made them worthy of suchaccolade? What made Allah and His Messenger single out thesewomen above all others? And more importantly, how can we benetand learn from their example?

They afrmed the Truth immediatelyWhen they heard the truth, they submitted without hesitation. Wesee from their stories that Mariam accepted the huge task of goingthrough pregnancy and childbirth by herself unsupported by a man,and then of presenting her child to the people who would inevitablyaccuse her of being a loose woman; something she was so far frombeing, she was obedient to Allahs command. Khadijah acceptedIslam immediately and was the rst Muslimah. When the Prophet

returned from Mount Noor having received the rst revelation fromAngel Jibreel, it was Khadijah who immediately accepted his mes-sage and believed in him even though he himself was shaken bythe event.Today, there is a culture amongst us of Fatwa Shopping. In otherwords, when an Islamic ruling makes us feel uncomfortable, insteadof saying We hear and we obey, we just go and ask someone whohas another opinion until we nd the opinion that is most akin to ourown desires. We must become women who when faced with thetruth in any matter, sincerely accept it and submit without hesita-tion.

They had a strong relationship with AllahTheir knowledge of Allah and His attributes made them close toHim. When the Prophet returned from the Cave of Hira, fearing

something bad had happened to him Khadijah knew Allah wouldnever forsake him. She said, 'Allah would never humiliate you, foryou are good to your relatives, you are true to your word, you helpthose who are in need, you support the weak, you feed the guestand you answer the call of those who are in distress.' She knewthat Allah is Just and does not humiliate the righteous. Aasiya knewwhen Pharaoh was torturing her to turn her from her faith, that Allah

could hear her cries and her dua, she asked Allah to build for her, with Him a house in Paradise. During her ordeal, Allah showed herhouse in Paradise to her, which made her smile, just as she wasmartyred at the hands of her husband.

Maryam had such a close relationship to her Lord that He wouldprovide her with the fruits of the Summer in the Winter and the fruitsof the Winter in Summer. When the Prophet Zakariyyah (AS) sawthis he quizzed her about the origin of the food she always had.She said, "This is from Allah. Verily, Allah provides sustenance towhomsoever He wills without limit." Quran

If we are to become close to Allah we too must have correct knowl-edge of Him and His names and attributes and mention Him oftenthrough dhikr. If we remember Him much in times of ease, only thenwill we be able to remember Him in times of difculty.

They had a Prophet as their MurabbiA Murabbi is someone who teaches and nurtures you. Mariamsguardian in Masjid ul Aqsa was the Prophet Zakariyah (AS). He washer Murabbi since her childhood as she lived in the Masjid. Aasiyahad Musa (AS) growing up with her and accepted the messagethat he taught her, Khadijah and Fatima had the Prophet (sallallahualaihi wa sallam) as their Murabbi and often, when Fatima foundit hard to understand a particular situation that her father faced,he would teach her how she should view such a situation. He wascontinuously training her and giving her Tarbiyah.

For example, one day when he returned from a journey and wentto Fatimas house, Fatima welcomed him and kissed his face, hismouth and his eyes and wept. 'Why do you cry?' the Prophet asked.'I see you, O Rasul Allah,' she said, 'Your colour is pale and sallowand your clothes have become worn and shabby.' 'O Fatima,' theProphet replied tenderly, 'dont cry for Allah has sent your father witha mission which He would cause to affect every house on the faceof the earth whether it be in towns, villages or tents (in the desert)

bringing either glory or humiliation until this mission is fullled justas night (inevitably) comes.' He was constantly teaching her thatthere was more to this life than what was outwardly apparent andthat the next life was the true one.

Shaitan or Iblees, the cursed devil is always tempting us into diso-beying Allah. Iblees manifests himself in Jinns and even as humanbeing who mislead others into doing wrong deeds. A Muslim youthshould always be conscious of their deeds and weigh them in terms

of does this please Allah or is it a temptation from Iblees. We shouldfully be conscious of fighting Iblees and strive to know about hisplots and plans.

Allah, the Most high said: Verily the shaitaan is an enemy to youall, so take him as an enemy. He only calls his followers to be thepeople of a blazing fire" Quran (Al Faatir 35: 6).Iblees is mostly attracted to misleading youth because he knowsthat this is the most productive age which one can utilize to do gooddeeds and gain the mercy of Allah. And thus Allah has placed agreat reward on youth who triumph Iblees and do good deed in theirmost productive age of youth. This is an aspect of life which has been ignored by many people andsince Iblees is never absent-minded about us, thus neither shouldwe ever ignore him, because he watches and is keen to trip up theslave so that he falls into what Allah the Most High hates.

The Messenger of Allah said: "Iblees places his throne ('arsh) on thesea from which he sends his armies and troops. The one greatestin standing to him is the greatest in spreading turmoil among thepeople" (Reported by Muslim)Iblees always conquers the son of Adam with one of three which in-clude - (1) one being fond of himself/ herself, (2) deeming his deedsto be plentiful, and (3) forgetfulness of his sins. Therefore Muslim youth should be ware of despising shaitan in pub-lic while obeying him in secret.Pay attention dear Muslimeen and be warned for the sake of yourself. Do not think Iblees has abandoned you when you are seenapproaching worship, but consider carefully and search the fullestsearch and you will be sure to find there some presence of Iblees. Therefore, seek the forgiveness of Allah more!If shaitaan saw you consistently obeying Allah he will seek you time

and time again. If he sees your consistency he grows weary of youand rejects you. If you changed, however, each and every time, then he begins to have hope in you. If we can reject Shaitaan in ouryouthhood consistently and stand firm against his mischief he soongets exhausted or even afraid of us. The Shaitaan was afraid of thesecond Caliph of Islam, Umar (radhiya Allahu anhu) because hewas steadfast on doing good deeds.

Yes I liked that part of the programme where the actor

    said this and that

These are the stories that we are always giving to one

another at school or when playing with our friends.

This means that we are always watching television every

day and we would not want to miss a single episode of

    our favourite programme.

But have we considered that we give our religion similar

attention? Do we read the Quran daily? Do we love it

more than the most favourite books we keep such as

    Harry Porter and others?

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad salla Allahu alayhi

wasallam taught us that we get rewards for every sin-

gle letter of the Holy Quran that we read. Every verse

of the Quran has several letters in it and we get a lot

of rewards from Allah by reading just a single verse.

But do we get anything in return after watching TV or

playing a playstation video game? Of course, NO.

The Quran is great miracle from Allah and many young

children have been able to memorise it at a very young

    age of 12 years.

Our brains are sharp and can easily memorise things

when we are still young. We should try to read and mem-

orise verses from the Quran every day.

Our Ummah is under siege"The enemies of Islam are protectors of one another: Unless you

protect one another, there will be tumult, oppression and turbulence

    on earth." Quran (Al-Anfal, 73)

Yes, they are indeed protectors of one another. Allah forbid, I hon-

estly and truly do not incite hatred, but merely want to make youaware of the facts that are unfolding right before our very eyes and

humbly ask that all of us assess the realities of the ongoing situation

confronting the Muslim Ummah all over the world. Allah Subhanahu

wa Ta'ala teaches us in the Quran what we, as an Ummah should

do to avoid the snares and pitfalls that are being laid for us by the

enemies of His Deen and Prophet Muhammad Salla Allahu Alayhi

    Wasallam.

Sometimes it speaks to us directly, sometimes it teaches us by way

of our own experiences and sometimes it places us in direct con-

frontation with our avowed enemies. We are all aware of the ongo-

ing atrocities being committed by the zionist authorities in Palestine

and the grave danger facing our Beloved Masjid-ul-Aqsa - rst Qi-

    bla of the Muslims.

International opinion as manifested in the United Nations will onceagain be willfully ignored by the unrepentant zionists and their sup-

porters who maintain that the daily killings of Palestinians are justi-

ed because the lives of the heavily armed zionist soldiers are be-

ing threatened by stone throwing Palestinian youths. However, this

is not the time to comment on the Kuffar controlled United Nations

and its one sided role when it comes to dealing with or protecting

    innocent Muslim lives.

What I would like to bring to your attention is that there appears to

be an obvious parallel for comparison. In India, the Babri Masjid has

been coveted, desecrated and burned down to the

ground by an extreme sect of racist Hindus who

claim that the Mosque stood on the site of the tem-

ple of Rama. We can see the similarity between the

two claims. The Jews claim that Masjid-ul-Aqsa isbuilt on the site of the temple of Solomon, and, the

Hindus say that the Babri Masjid is on the site of

the temple of Rama. After a great deal of research it is extremely

doubtful that the idol god that the Hindus refer to as Rama ever ex-

isted as an historical personage. The situation with Masjid-ul-Aqsa

is very much the same when we study the history of the area.

What we Muslims are now concerned with is why Muslim heritage

of historical and sacred places of worship in particular are now un-

der siege by the avowed enemies of Islam . Why has Muslim life

become so cheap and the shedding of innocent Muslim blood an

everyday occurance? Why is it that the honour of Muslims is so

easily violated without any one blinking an eyelid to bring this mad-

    ness to an end?

The parallel between the claims of the zionists and the Hindusshould be the motivation to shock us into the realization of what we

will face the world over and that is something we all have to take

    stock of right now.

There is a Hadith in which is enshrined a prophecy of Prophet Mu-

hammad Salla Allahu Alayhi Wasallam when he envisaged a time

when other nations will conspire together against the Muslim Um-

mah and converge on them like hungry wolves sensing the feeble-

ness of their prey. Then one of the Sahaba asked:

"O Rasulullah! Are we going to be fewer in numbers at that time?"

    The Prophet replied:

"No! You will be many but you will be like the froth which surfaces

on the surface of the water at the time of a ood.... of no endur-

ance...of no value...and of no consequence or effect. And Almighty

Allah will remove from them the fear of you and He will instill in yourhearts 'Wahn'.

Then one of the Sahaba asked: "O Rasulullah! what is meant by

Al-Wahn?" The Prophet replied: "When my Ummah will love the

material life more than the life of the Akhirah."

Indeed, it is just natural to love life and to fear death, but what

Sheikh Abdul Hamid L. SalehProphet Muhammad Salla Allahu Alayhi Wasallam meant by this

was that a time will come when his Ummah will be so engrossed in

pursuit of name and fame, amassing material wealth and the joys

of the Dunya that they will forget that they are going to die some

day. There are those who will not care to sacrice all the values, all the noble and wholesome things that Allah has decreed for us.

People will be mainly concerned with their bellies and their great-

est desires will be the consumption of food. Their minds will be

obsessed with their wealth, position, status and honour and their

religion will be of what they possess in terms of money and material

wealth. Almighty Allah Azza Wajal reminds us that amassing wealth

will occupy those people up to the moment when they are actually

    laid in their graves.

"The mutual rivalry for piling up (the good things of this world) di-

verts you (from the more serious things). Until you visit the graves.

But nay, you shall soon know (the reality). Again, you shall soon

know with certainty of mind, (you beware) you shall certainly see

the re of Jahannam" Again you shall see it with certainty of sight.

Then, shall you be questioned that Day about the joys that youindulged in." Quran (Suratul Takathur, 1-8).

Mankind may be engrossed in the joys and luxuries of the world-

ly life till death approaches, and then he looks back on a wasted

life, insofar as provision for the Akhirah (Hereafter) is concerned.

It means to hate death and to forget it as if one was going to live

forever, as if there is no day when we will meet our Glorious Creator

and Sustainer to give an account of our actions. If we are all honest

with ourselves, this is the state of our lives and this, my beloved

    brothers and sisters is reality.

The avowed enemies of Islam have openly ac-

knowledged their intense hatred for the Ummah.

They are not shy, ashamed or scared of assert-

ing and reiterating their hatred. They brazenly

admit to their evil plans of wanting to demolishMasjid-ul-Aqsa and erecting in its place what they

claim to be the Temple of Solomon. This has been

announced, it has been declared, and it is the strategy and the

policy of the zionists since Al-Quds was stolen from its inhabitants

and handed to the Jews of the world. The Most Holy and Glorious

Qur'an teaches us a great deal about the murder, oppression, re-

pression, subjugation and humiliating others and is by no means a

new characteristic of the Bani Isra'eel of today. The Glorious Qur'an

conrms their brutality, about their hard and stony hearts, about

their eagerness to spread corruption, and their labours and artices

    to start and maintain wars.

Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala has conrmed all these facts to

us in the Most Holy and Glorious Qur'an, but do we read it with an

open mind? If we all try to read the Most Holy Qur'an with under-standing and not just with our lips, we may learn to anticipate the in-

justices that lie in store for all of us. Rest assured my beloved broth-

ers and sisters: these events are not new, but, what are new are the

circumstances, the situations under which we as Muslims are going

through at this particular juncture in the history of our nation. Our

enemies have succeeded in a strategy of pitting us at each others

throats. They have succeeded in drawing us to a wrong battle in the

wrong place for wrong reasons. Those who are ghting to end this

oppression are called terrorists, extremists, Jihadists e.t.c.

We have been brainwashed to think of the liberators who are ght-

ing to free all the Muslims lands worldwide as our enemies in Pal-

estine, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Kashmir, Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria

and Yemen among other areas worldwide. And some Muslims have

joined the Crusaders bandwagon and even criticize these freedomghters.

Unfortunately, we allow ourselves to be led by the nose. We are

undermined and inuenced by others whom we consider friends.

Our ideas, our policies, our minds and our directions are shaped by

the policies and interests of our enemies.

    "...Other nations will conspire

    together against the Muslim

    Ummah and converge on them

like hungry wolves sensing thefeebleness of their prey... "

    Story From Page 1

    Prohibition of imitatingnon believers

    7

All of these can be seen throughout the Muslim world. What does allof this show? It shows that we have lost the true dignity and honourof being believers. We no longer feel honour, dignity and joy in fol-lowing the ways of the Prophets, martyrs, sincere and righteous.Instead, we feel better when we succumb to or follow the ways ofthose who have earned Allah's wrath or have gone astray.Let us all return to the ways and guidance of the Quran and Sun-nah. Let us all feel the honour and dignity that true iman should giveus - we should feel that this is a special bounty that Allah has givento us. We should turn to the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet

(salla Allahu alayhi wasallam) to take our values, our customs, ourbeliefs, our aspirations, and our guidance from those two sources. That is the only way of life that is worth living and that is the only wayof life that is pleasing to Allah. If we abandon it and instead follow theways of the disbelievers we would be abandoning a great thing forsomething that will actually bring us nothing.

Sheikh Dor said that the fact that our Police are acting at the behest

of western governments was an indication that we are still being

    colonized.

Chief Kadhi Sheikh Hammad M. Kassim added that the arrest and

deportation of the Sheikh Faisal indicated that there was no free-dom of expression in the country.

Immigration Minister Otieno Kajwang refuted the claims that the

government was targeting Muslims. We are deporting him because

of his terrorism history and the fact that he is on the international

    watch-list, Kajwang said.

I am ashamed when a government minister appears on television

to claim that this Muslim leader is a terrorist yet no court of law in

the country has found him guilty of that offence. It is illegal, uncon-

stitutional and against all the established international human rights

conventions this is the angry statement that one Muslim leader

expressed over the arrest and eventual deportation of Sheikh .Ab-

    dullah Al Faisal.

National Muslim Leaders Forum Chairman Abdullahi Abdi said that

this was clear indication that the government was applying selec-tive justice when dealing with Muslims.

It seems that Muslims are condemned to be guilty even before

they are proved to be so by a court of law. How can a list that was

made somewhere by a few Americans, be used to harass Muslims

worldwide including here in Kenya, he wondered.

He also refuted claims that Sheikh Faisal breached Immigration

regulations because he was preaching in the country yet he had

only been given a tourism visa. Preaching in Islam is part of wor-

ship and there is no restriction that someone who is on a tour in

country could not preach", he said .

Abdullahi said that the move by the government to deny and cancel

the visas of Muslims scholars insinuated that there could be a silent

policy to lock out Muslim scholars from the country.

Abdullahi added that NAMLEF and other Muslim groups will con-tinuously engage the government to ensure that this harassment is

brought to an end. It is our wish that they will come to their senses

and treat Muslims according to the international human rights con-

    ventions, he remarked.

During a protest match outside Jamia Mosque on Sunday, Muslim

Human Rights Forum (MHRF), ofcials said that Sheikh Al-Faisal's

arrest was discriminatory since preachers of other faiths are grant-

ed similar visitors' visa and were equally allowed to preach.

Alamin Kimathi the Executive Coordinator of MHRF said, "This is

curtailing Sheikh al-Faisal's freedoms of expression and associa-

tion in a very discriminative manner and holding him incommuni-

    cado, which is totally unacceptable".

Media reports had indicated on Wednesday that Sheikh Al Faisal

was still being held in the country after an attempt to deport himto Tanzania failed. The source indicated that he was driven to the

Kenya-Tanzania border and handed over to the authorities in Tan-

zania on Monday evening but the Tanzania government rejected

    him.

Muslims Human Rights Forum ofcials also petitioned the Police

on Wednesday to release the scholar. The ofcials led by Al Amin

were at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Police sta-

tion where they believed the Cleric was being held.

NAMLEF, CIPK and MHRF have said that they will take legal action

against the government for the continued harassment of Muslim

scholars in the country by the ATPU police unit.

Sheikh Abdullah Al-Faisal is a Muslim revert who was born as

Trevor William Forrest in St James, Jamaica, and left the island for

Britain 26 years ago. His parents were Salvation Army ofcers andhe was raised as a Christian, but when he was aged 16 he went to

Saudi Arabia - where he is believed to have spent eight years - and

    became a Muslim.

He took a degree in Islamic Studies in the Saudi capital of Riyadh,

    before settling in Britain.

Saudi Ambassador Faisal Al Amoudi, addresses the Qur'an Memo-

rizers symposium at Jamia Mosque on Wednesday. The event was

organized by Majlis Ulamaa Kenya and Int'l Org. of Qur'an Memoriza-

tion. He is anked by Defense Minister Yusuf Haji (second left), Us -

How much does one spend on a newspaper? The two most

popular dailies in the country each cost Sh35 and for manypeople they cannot do without spending this amount to have

at least one of these papers to satisfy their hungry desire fornews.

The daily cost of the two newspapers stands at Sh70 and thiswill translate to 245 per week, monthly at Sh980 and an annual

    cost of Sh12,600.

For some, the two publications are not enough as they have anextra monthly budget dedicated to other newspapers, maga-

zines and other publications.Even with such costs, in most cases after reading the publica-

tion, their worthiness evaporates and it is not a surprise that

many discards them into the trash bins soon after readingthem. The commitment in spending on this publication is strong in that

one ensures that he does not miss out in buying the papers. While it could be important for some one to spend this amount

in accessing news and information, at the same time, we could

also with similar dedication spend just a shilling a day on acause which could be important in improving on the lives of

Muslims and the community at large.Compared to the cost of a newspaper, dedicating one shilling

a day from your budget is a very minute amount. The annualcost is a partly Sh360 and if many of us participates in this ini-

tiative and commits this amount on a daily basis, it could haveprofound impact on the lives of Muslims. With the amount gen-

erated, we could be able to nance various social developmentprojects as well as supporting individual Muslims in attainingtheir goals which will ultimately improve on their welfare.

The One shilling Foundation is supported by some of the lead-ing Muslim organizations in the country and since its inception

it has gone ahead to lend educational support for the commu-nity members.

The vision of this Foundation is to uplift and empower the Um-mah in not only through education but also by providing health,

    economic and other social-welfare services.

What is needed is a personal commitment from every Muslimto join this noble programme.

'I'm Alive,' says Anwar Awlaki despite U.S. attackA week after U.S. and Yemeni ofcials said the Yemen cleric Anwar Awlaki

may have been killed in a U.S.-backed air strike on 24th Dec, a Yemeni

journalist says Awlaki has surfaced to proclaim, "I'm alive." "He said the

house that was attacked was two or three kilometers away from him and

he was not there," the journalist, Abdulelah Hider Shaea, told ABC News.

He said he talked to Awlaki on phone and recognized his voice from previ-

ous interviews.A statement from the Yemeni embassy in Washington said Awlaki was "pre-

sumed" to have been at the site of the meeting south of the capital city of

Sanaa. Friends and relatives of Awlaki immediately discounted reports the

cleric was killed in the raid but the journalist is the rst to claim to have

spoken with him since the attack.pureislam.com
