T his six-session parenting course, developed by the Love and Logic Institute, was designed to help you find specific answers and actions for some of those difficult moments in child rearing. ese simple techniques are effective with all children, from toddlers to teens. Hawk’s Talk Friday, February 8, 2019 Dr. Brent Hawkins LISD Superintendent District Calendar Dear Lion Country, Many thanks to those of you who took the time out of your busy day to participate in the employee opinion survey. As I have said in the past, we will never ask for a survey or task that has no action or follow through. While our district will never be perfect we shall never be one void of effort to improve for those we serve. At the same time this does not mean that every individual opinion will be addressed. Great things are in the future of our district. Keeping safety and accelerating learn- ing at the forefront of our district focus is imperative. We anticipate our new school resource officer should begin work around the middle of this month. is officer shall be housed in the elementary schools, and take on the role within those campuses. Be- cause of the scarcity of resources the district is excited to see this continued investment in areas that bring greater yield to security goals. is month also begins the pilot of our bus/transportation soſtware that will allow real-time data on rider location, bus stop arrival times, and parent communica- tion. Accelerating learning being at the heart of our mission in education has added some exciting tools for our staff this semester. Many times I have noted my disdain for the current assessment system by the state of Texas. My opinion does not and should not exclude us from preparing our students for success on multiple levels of indicators. Given state law mandates that we will teach the standards I do believe that we should chart a path of robust instruction that has long term benefits. We are clearly not where we want to be and need to become better as a district, thus the need for a comprehensive staff development plan. I further believe that our students can be prepared with con- textual alignment and yet not become a test prep instructional model. e opportuni- ties of our students graduating with college or technical post-secondary skills is precise evidence of that. LHS Chorale receives ninety-eight First Division medals

Robotics Team Advancing to State

Students advancing to UIL State Solo and Ensemble

The Livingston High School Robotics team compet-ed against 13 teams on February 2 in Willis and won 2nd place. Team members Jacob Reeves, Travis Fore, Brandon Gerrard, Mark Andrews and Robotics teach-er Jeremiah Carr are advancing to state competition. The team also won the judges award which recognizes a team for their outstanding efforts during the compe-tition whose unique efforts, performance or dynamics merit recognition.

They received a total of 98 1st division medals out of a pos-sible 105 advancing to the UIL State Solo and Ensemble com-petition in June.
