FRIDAY FLYER December 7th 2018 FRIDAY FLYER KEY STAGE 1 NEWS This week Base 1 have continued their work on It’s a perfect night. In Literacy children have been learning to write labels. In Maths children have been using lots of resources to make bonds to ten. As part of their continuous provision children have been smashing stars, fishing for stars, writing labels for animals and creating some beautiful art work linked to their book. For the next two weeks children will be learning about Christmas in Finland so if you know anything about this country please share it with Mrs Harris. This week based 2 have been writing instructions – they followed instructions on how to make a spaceship, then they improved the instructions. Finally they wrote their own instructions for Base 1 on how to get ready in the morning. Children thought about writing in sentences and using capital letters and full stops. In maths Base 2 have been counting to 20 using real life objects and reflecting on how they use maths every day. Children have also been practising their Christmas play and can’t wait for you to come and see it next week. This week in Base 3 children have been working hard during assessment week. They have all sat the Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar tests, mathematics tests and reading assessments. Base 3 have been practising the Christmas play with the rest of Key Stage 1 ready for next week. Children have made their own salt dough decorations and painted them - this includes all sorts of Christmas and non-Christmas shapes. In Literacy Base 4 have been working on the story ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’. Children retold the story in their own words, focusing on choosing interesting adjectives to describe the setting and characters. In Maths children have moved onto Multiplication. Working with “groups of” objects, to understand exactly what multiplication is. Children enjoyed a Graffiti maths lesson where they drew their groups, number sentences and word sentences to describe the multiplication straight onto table clothes! This was their chance to make marvellous mistakes before writing in their workbooks. Children have been working hard in rehearsals for their Christmas show, learning the songs and practicing their lines! We look forward to sharing it with you next week!

FRIDAY FLYER

KEY STAGE 1 NEWS

This week Base 1 have continued their work on It’s a perfect night.

A Christmas advert raising awareness of the impact of palm oil production on the environment has been banned from UK TV after it was described as being "too political". UK supermarket Iceland wanted to use the advert that had been made by environmental charity Greenpeace, which tells the story of an orangutan whose home is being de-stroyed by palm oil producers. Things to talk about at home… Had you already heard about this advert? Do you think you would have heard about it more or less if it hadn’t been banned from being shown on television? Do you think it’s good to use cartoons to talk about serious things? Why? Do you think that adverts should be allowed to talk about environmental issues as well as selling things? Why?
