Feeling HOT, HOT, HOT! Summer time is certainly here! We have some great cool indoor activities planned! There are a few I want to really recommend The “Comedy Café” on May 4th is a really special one! Julie Scoggins is a 6’2 southern ex truck driver that will have you laughing ‘til your stomach hurts! The “Nostalgia” show with Randy Riggle on May 6th promises to be lots of fun!

“Born to Entertain” with Kym Frankovelgia will be amazing! She is a great big Bette Midler personality type; please don’t miss her Florida debut, as she performs all year up north I persuaded her to entertain us on her vacation! Join us at the pool for a Memorial Day BBQ and some live entertainment! “Johnny & the Ghost Riders will be here for our “Just Dance” on June 3rd He is always fantastic! Back again on June 24th are the ever popular favorites Barry and Nancy for “Name That Tune”!

Sincerely,

Mindy

(and after hours emergency on-site number)

Who would’ve thought that breaking into a top-secret government base and getting the scoop on the world’s first contact with alien life could describe a typical Saturday afternoon? At Escape Room Adventures, you can combine teamwork and brain power with an exhilarating race against the clock during unique, themed puzzle-solving experiences. Over the course of an hour you’ll work with up to five other people to uncover clues and complete objectives in fun scenarios. Since games are open to anyone aged 9 and up, the emphasis is on fun rather than fear here, so you won’t find any frightening, zombie-themed scenarios. Instead, participants solve tough 1980s-themed puzzles or look for clues during alien adventures.

We will meet at the Escape Room: 1995 S Cleveland Ave., Suite #217, Fort Myers, FL 33907

VillageWalk CERT Our next meeting is

Wednesday, May 11th and Wednesday June 8th at 6:00 p.m.

CERT is a group of community volunteers trained by our local fire department to be first responders in emergency situations such as hurricanes and tornadoes. The team is activated by Bonita Springs Fire and Rescue during such emergencies. At Village Walk we meet the second Wednesday of each month at the Town Center. We discuss plans for emergency situations and refresh our training to enable us to better function as a team. We always seek more volunteers to better address emergency events. Residents interested in joining should contact Nicole Hornberger at Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue, (239) 949-6227, [email protected]. If you would like more information or have any questions, please email [email protected].

The Cancer Support Group

TThe Cancer Support Group meets monthly to provide a forum for those who have been impacted by cancer - survivors,

caregivers and anyone who would like to be involved in the fight. We offer support, information and resources, or just a few words of encouragement from “someone who has been there”.

We meet on the second Wednesday of the month at 4:00 p.m. in the Town Center. For more information, contact Caryl Rumble at [email protected]. Our group will not meet in June, July or August. We will resume meetings in September.

During our May meeting, we will focus on planning our 4th Annual High Tea and Fashion Show which is a fundraising event with all proceeds going to the Susan G. We thank you in advance!

people, find out things your neighbors have learned, and for you to learn from them as well. No need to RSVP. Just come and enjoy your fellow Village Walk neighbors for an evening of relaxation. Artis to see the Naples Collects exhibit. “This eclectic exhibition brings together examples of

high-quality art owned by local collectors from some of the best-known American artists of the 20th century, works by masters of European art and contemporary artists. Naples Collects is a one of-a-kind opportunity to share with our patrons and supporters the stories of

area collectors who have devoted years to amassing collections that speak to their tastes, interests and passion.”We will also see New Acquisitions: In Context showing works gifted to the museum from the collection of Paul and Charlotte Cordrey. “New Acquisitions: In Context explores the connections between the works in this significant acquisition and important pieces that are part of The Baker Museum’s permanent collection.”The Baker Museum has a fee of $10 and a docent-led tour at 11:00 a.m.On June 23rd, the explorers will visit the Florida Gulf Coast University Art Gallery to view Quest for Permanence.“Quest for Permanence examines our play with time in its many forms and the tensions that arise as time and place collide. With HomeCourt, making and managing your tennis court reservations at VillageWalk Bonita just got a lot more convenient.Tennis court reservations in VillageWalk have transitioned from the former paper sign-up book to an online computer system called HomeCourt. The system started accepting reservations in early January and was fully operational on January 11, 2016.

While the HomeCourt system is extremely easy to use, the members of the current and former Tennis Committees and John Thawley will do everything possible to make this transition as simple and painless as possible. Effective immediately, you may access the system, create your user account and make reservations. Step by step instructions and tutorials are posted on the HomeCourt web site.

Homecourt is only a technology change. It does not affect any of our existing VillageWalk tennis rules. Whatever you did in the paper sign-up book will remain the same online. Please use the following link: http://www.tenniswalk.com and click on the Reservations link at the top left to request a user account. Once you have received a confirmation e-mail, read and agree to the rules to access the registration process. We think you’ll find the system is simple and very user friendly. If you encounter problems or want to understand how to use the system, you can view the online tutorial at http://www.tenniswalk.com/tutorial.

* Please note, while HomeCourt is accessible and functional from most smartphones and mobile devices, the screen presentation is limited and you may find some features cumbersome. This is the nature of mobile apps. Given that, we strongly recommend that you use a desktop of laptop computer when accessing HomeCourt.

BOCCE CLUB

The first VillageWalk Bocce Club One-on-One Tournament took place on April 16th.16 players competed for the title Champion and unlike other tournaments, players competed without a partner or a team. There were only 2 people on the court instead of the usual 8.It was a fun day for both players and spectators. Tony Mariconda (top photo) earned the title Champion and Pete Mullin (bottom photo) Runner-Up. Everyone there remarked that the club should hold another One-on-One in 2017.

May/June Safety Tip of the MonthThe Safety Committee recommends that you turn off the circuit breaker to your water heater and drain the water from it when you are leaving for the summer. If left on and full of water, the unit continues to heat the water and uses up electricity. When the water is not drawn off regularly it tends to get corrosive and leaves particles in the tank which plug up the water lines. This may cause a leak in the tank, which will leak out on to the garage floor. Better to be safe than sorry.

Landscaping Update:Each spring certain woody ornamentals are cut back to remove dead plant material and promote growth. The following plants will receive cut backs beginning in May through June: Oleanders, Thryallis, Plumago, Firebush, Allamanda, Podocarpus, Arbicola, Crotons, Ilex Shilling, Ti Plants, Mexican Petunia, Jatropha and Hibiscus.Owners may not opt out of landscaping maintenance to be performed community wide. It is the association’s responsibility to maintain the landscaping and to perform timely maintenance for the health and protection of the plant material throughout the community.Owners may opt out on landscaping maintenance for plant material installed by the Owner only. All other landscaping will be regularly maintained by the association, and owners who install additional landscaping must maintain the plant material to the community wide standards. Landscaping installed by an Owner that is not maintained will be removed at the expense of the Owner if it is left to become overgrown, unhealthy or unsightly.Owners who leave for the summer months, and who maintain their own installed landscaping, please arrange to have the maintenance continue while you are away. The Upland plant beds will be trimmed during May-June, lowering the Wax Myrtle and removing any exotic or invasive species from these areas. The work will be done with hedge trimmers, but will not be as drastic as in previous years. The South Buffer is to be trimmed with species such as Wax Myrtle, Cocoplum and Firebush to be lowered and shaped throughout the buffer. Oaks, Pines and other trees will be cleared around the trunks, and lifted so they may thrive in the area. This will improve the health and overall look of the buffer, and will increase visibility in the buffer for the safety of the residents. With an estimated 50% of the material to be removed, this work is not expected to be as drastic as in previous years, although some material may require a stronger hard cut. Work will begin in mid / late May to early June, just before the rainy season returns. Once the date is set, the HOA office will send out an email blast to the community with the date the work will begin.

Policy ReminderVillageWalk of Bonita Springs has a lease minimum requirement of four (4) months,

and all leases must be for at least 4 months to be considered for approval.

New Landscape and Irrigation Reporting ProgramIn the next few weeks, a new reporting program for Landscape & Irrigation Concerns will go live on VillageWalk’s website. You will conveniently be able to report issues online and review/track updated responses to your concerns. Once the system goes live, we will notify the community with details via Email Blast and fliers.

20 ~ TALK OF THE WALK MAY | JUNE 2016

H .O . A . I N F O R M AT I O N

Hurricane Season Begins June 1st! Please remember hurricane shutters may not be installed prior to June 1. If shutters are white, or painted to

match the exterior color of the home, or are ACC approved hurricane protection shades, they may be installed from June 1 through November 30th. The unpainted, silver shutters may only be installed 72 hours prior to a named storm’s expected arrival and may be up no more than 72 hours after the storm has passed.

Before You Leave Your Home For The Summer!• Turn off the water to your home.• Turn off the hot water heater at breaker switch. • Keep the air conditioning running: set between 78 & 80’. • If you have a humidistat, it is recommended setting the humidistat

to control the HVAC. • Consider disconnecting certain appliances from their power supply

(TV, stereo, computers, etc.) to protect them from lightning and power surges.

• Have a hurricane plan in place: know who will install and remove your shutters if they have not been painted, and have someone who will be willing to check your home for damage should we get a hurricane.

• Remove all potted plants and other loose items from the exterior of your home so they do not become missiles during a hurricane, possibly causing property damage to you or your neighbor’s homes.

• Contact ADT Home Security: let them know you are leaving and make sure they have your contact information.

• Consider asking a neighbor or home watch service to watch your home: it is extremely important to have someone to flush commodes, run water through the bathroom faucets, tubs and showers, check the pool, air-conditioning and landscaping.

• Notify the Post Office and have your mail forwarded. • Halt the newspaper service.

Resort Pool UseThe resort and lap pools are amenities which are shared as common areas with all other owners or residents. If food or drinks are brought to the pool or purchased at the restaurant, please clean up any food or drink spills before leaving the pool area. Please remember food and beverages are prohibited in the pool and on the pool deck area, animals are not permitted in the fenced pool area at any time, glass containers are not permitted within the fenced pool area as per Florida Administration Code 64E-9.004. Anyone found in violation will be asked to leave the pool and their privileges may be revoked indefinitely.
