ST. STEPHEN

The Kiwanis Club of St. Stephen will host its annual trade show Friday and Saturday, May 4 and 5, at the Garcelon Civic Center.

Club treasurer Ken McLaughlin said the annual event, which features busi-nesses and services from throughout the region and beyond, is the club’s major fund raiser of the year.

“When you support the trade show, you support Kiwanis and when you support Kiwanis, you’re supporting your community,” said McLaughlin.

He said the community-based ser-vice club, which was created in 1930, supports a variety of endeavours with-in St. Stephen such as the Charlotte County Hospital, youth groups at local schools, bursaries and scholarships, playground equipment at Elm Street Park and additions to other play-grounds around the community and has built a skateboard park for local youth.

McLaughlin described the civic cen-tre as “a wonderful facility” in which

to host the trade show, noting the new ice arena floor cover makes the facility more versatile.

He said the profit from the trade show is spent ‘improving our commu-nity” and promised this year’s event would be colourful and interesting, bigger and better.

Patty Anderson, who is organizing this year’s trade show, said doors open to the public Friday evening at 5 p.m. The trade show, with local vendors and those from Fredericton and Saint John, will close its doors Friday at 9 p.m.

The show will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Anderson said an attempt has been made this year to make the trade show more fam-ily friendly with the inclusion of extra food vendors, and activities for kids, such as a bouncy castle on loan from the St. Stephen Fire Department.

Anderson noted the addition this year of clairvoyant and medium Ola Cormier, who will be set-up for the whole weekend, but will be offering special sessions on Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., and again Saturday from 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m.

There will also be the addition of

Lorraine Peters, who owns NWH Mod-eling & Self Improvement, and she will be speaking during the event Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., discussing “The Business of Image” and on Satur-day, her topic will be the “Law of At-traction.”

NB Power will be on hand to chat with people about the new Total Home Energy Savings Program, along with Service New Brunswick, who will have someone from their Property Assess-ment Division to discuss any concerns or questions. The Southwest New Brunswick Service Commission also has a booth, and will have information regarding the upcoming curbside recy-cling program.

“We really couldn’t do it without our sponsors,” said Anderson.

Anderson said St. Stephen Middle School’s entrepreneurial class will be featured at the trade show and ar-rangements have been made for them to utilize the drapes and dividers of the trade show for their own trade show the following Tuesday.

Last year the students used an up-stairs room at the civic centre, said Anderson, which was tight quarters.
