A CIS Star and Hero
Last week, April 22-24, Ms. Jessica W and her team mate
Stefania G represented the Cayman Islands at the NORCECA
tournament and came in fourth place. This is the farthest a Cay-
man Islands team has ever gotten against this type of “top tier” com-
petition.
Shortly after her final match against Mexico on Sunday, Ms. Jessica
caught a flight to be a bone marrow donor for a young girl in Virgin-
ia, USA. She recalls signing up to be donor about a decade ago while
in college. When she received the call to be a donor for this young
girl, she was happy to help.
CIS is very proud of Ms. Jessica and we wish her all the best!

AASSA Educators' Conference
CIS recently attended the AASSA Educa-tors' Conference at Colegio Roosevelt in Lima, Perú. The staff had the opportuni-ty to learn from educational experts such as Ewan McIntosh and Kevin Bartlett, and gathered many new strategies to share with colleagues and implement in the classroom.
The group reconnected with former CIS faculty, Katie K, Katie B, Matt K and Kaya M, who all currently work in South America. Ms. Philippa, Ms. Tatum, Ms. Sarah, Señor Blanco and Dr. Jeremy were also fortunate enough to visit Cusco, hike part of the Inca Trail, and run around Machu Picchu.
Yearbook Background Photo Contest Winners
The yearbook committee received many pictures this year for the 15/16 yearbook. The editors of each section got to choose the pictures they wanted to use as their section’s background and those photos became the winning pictures. It is exciting that the faculty and students have played a role in creating the school’s yearbook. All winners got 50% off of the cost of their yearbook. For the next six weeks, the newsletter will feature one of our six contest winners.

Tournament at Kings Sports. The squad played three competitive games. They avenged their
last loss against Cayman Prep at the Blue Iguana with their first victory of the day.
The second game was against Wesleyan. The team held on to an early lead, but lost to the even-

Minds Inspired Mathematic Competition
On Friday, April 15 seven high school students competed in the
Minds Inspired Competition.
10th grader Nathan M, 11th graders Maya A, Erik B, Tommy S,
and Daniel N, and 12th graders Natalie F and Niklas W, did an
excellent job. Erik won first place among the 11th graders and
Natalie won first among the 12th graders.
The competition ended with five out of the top 10 students being
from the CIS group. Erik and Natalie finished tied for 3rd place
overall, Tommy finished 5th, Maya finished 7th, and Niklas tied
with another student for 8th.
CIS is very proud of these students and we wish them continued
success!
PSA Volleyball Tournament
On Wednesday, April 20, seven teams from across the island came to
participate in the first ever PSA volleyball tournament at CIS. It was an
amazing display of athleticism and volleyball skills. Both CIS middle
school and high school teams took part in the tournament.
The Middle School team, despite playing against all high school play-
ers, put up a great fight and came close to winning two of their games.
Agustina and Valentina T had excellent bumps and sets while Daniela S dominated the court with
her spikes and serves.
The High School team looked very strong in pool play. They beat Prep
by an impressive score of 25-7, demonstrating excellent teamwork,
skill and movement on the court. They won the next two games to
finish first in their pool. In the semi-final game, the team came out a
little hesitant against a strong Wesleyan team. Although CIS put forth
a good effort, Wesleyan outplayed them in this match. Wesleyan went
on to win the tournament against Triple C in the finals.
Both teams should be very proud of their efforts this season. The MS won all
of their league games against the other MS teams and the CIS HS team finished
3rd in league play. All of the other coaches commented on what great pro-
gress the team made over the course of the season. Congratulations to team
captains Daniel and Natalie S for leading their team throughout the year.
Volleyball at CIS is looking up! We can’t wait until next year to bring home
the gold!

Grade 7’s Design Thinking
Empathy Project
Ms. Cathy and Ms. Sarah are currently co
-facilitating a Design Thinking Empathy
Project with the Grade 7’s. The students
conducted observations around campus
using the lens of empathy, brainstormed
ideas, and are currently working on pro-
totypes for greeting cards that will
demonstrate
empathy to-
ward the CIS
community or
some part of
it. Be on the
look-out for a greeting card sale of these
products in the near future! The Grade
7’s are still deciding who they want to
donate any
funds raised
to, and they
intend to use
this project as
a vehicle for
demonstrating
the “service” portion of the CIS motto.

Based on the best-selling book series by Jane Nelsen and Lynn Lott, Positive Discipline is based on kind AND firm methods that are mutually respectful and that dig deep to understand the root causes of misbehavior.
“The Positive Discipline course was a wonderful experience, connecting me with other parents as we all work to raise capable, kind, unique children.
