already has a national reputation for

wonderful animal product companies.

that the leg be removed to avoid

him wearing sores on the top of his

foot from walking incorrectly.

Danny’s next adventure was the

amputation. They sent him home

with the cone over his head but he

never bothered the incision so we

did not make him wear it. Again,

he did everything any kitten would

do, no realization of limitation

there. After 2 weeks, they removed

the staples and he was finally

finished with that pesky leg

problem.

Danny was no longer a foster cat,

but a very important part of my

family. Danny and my dogs were

buddies and I am in love with him.

He is always happy, loving and

playful. So, as they refer to it when

a foster parent adopts an animal

that they foster, Danny is my "foster

failure" but he is a welcome

addition to our family.

Danny’s Story

Memorial Stone at Shelter

New memorial stone at the

animal shelter

Danny’s Story

By Kathy Stockett

In September, the Shelter staff

picked up a little black kitten with a

broken leg. I was asked to foster a

6-week-old kitten with a broken leg.

My assumption was that he would

be easy to contain and foster for

the 6 weeks because he would be

in the cast. Boy, was I wrong! It was

less than 24 hours before he was up

and over my containment fence.

Faster than any other kitten I had

previously fostered, even though he

had a cast on his right front leg from

his shoulder to beyond his foot

pads. He refused to be separated

from my 2 dogs and me. After the

cast was removed the veterinarian

said to give him 2 weeks to heal

and see if he would begin using his

leg again. Unfortunately, he was

walking on the top of his foot, not

his pads. The vet recommended

Betty Harris bought the stone to honor

her daughter, Jody Acord, and two

Friends of the Animal Shelter volunteers,

Terri Evans and Mary Talbot White. All of

them were diagnosed and died of

cancer. Jody, Terri and Mary all loved

animals, and to honor their memory

and work with and for animals, this

memorial stone was placed outside the

shelter by the animal statues.

About Bo Ernest & Lawanda Worthen came to our pet preview at

UPCO on March 11th to see a 10-year-old Jack Russell mix named Bo they had seen on the city

shelter website. Ernest said that as both he & his wife are seniors, they didn't want to adopt a

young dog that might outlive them & then

would have no one. Also, they felt a senior

dog would fit their lifestyle.

When they walked into UPCO, they saw that

Bo was ignoring the people around him that

were trying to get his attention, but when he

saw Ernest, he just kept staring at him. A

volunteer handed the dog to Ernest, and

Ernest said Bo just laid down in his arms, with

his head-on Ernest's arm & closed his eyes.

Ernest said he has never experienced that

type of moment before and found it very

moving. Needless to say, an adoption took

place and Bo now has a family that

apparently, he picked out.

Success Stories

For Caitlin McGuire’s 5th Birthday, Caitlin

donated dog and cat toys and treats for the

dogs and cats. Happy Birthday Caitlin, and

thank you from all the dogs and cats at the

animal shelter.

Bo has found his forever home!
