NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR 2012 MILITARY CHILD OF THE YEAR AWARD Deserving Young Patriots Win $5,000. Op Homefront announced the opening of the 2012 Military Child of the Year Award nomination period. The award will be given to an outstanding military child from each Service. Winners, who each will receive $5,000, will be flown with parent/guardian to Wash, D.C., for special recognition ceremony on Apr 5, 2012. NATE’S POINT; A DOG PARK WITHIN BALBOA PARK Open to the public year round. This off-leash area is located on Balboa Park’s West Mesa, south of El Prado / Laurel Street and east of Balboa Drive. It is approximately 2.3 acres and completely fenced with amenities that include a drinking fountain and picnic tables. SUNSET CLIFFS NATURAL PARK Open to the public year round. Dedicated in 1983, Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is a 68-acre resource based park stretching along the Pacific Ocean bor-dering the western edge of Point Loma. The 18-acre linear section of the park lies to the west of Sunset Cliffs Blvd. between Adair and Ladera Streets. The 50-acre hillside section, a designated multiple species conservation area, links to the 640-acre Point Loma Ecological Reserve beginning at the Navy property to the south. The Park's topography includes intricately carved coastal bluffs, arches and sea caves. It affords inspiring panoramic ocean views. From the cliffs, the California Gray Whale can be seen migrating annually from the Bering Sea to Baja California. THE GREAT ESCAPE FAQS What is The Great Escape (GE)? The GE is the enlisted rec center aboard Miramar. The facility is open to all active duty enlisted service members. What are the hours? The GE is open 365 days a year. We are open Sunday 0945 – 2300 (during football season), Mon – 1100 – 2300, Tues – Thurs – 1100 – 2400 and Fri and Sat – 1100 – 0100, We are open all holidays. What is in The GE? The GE features a variety of activities including but not limited to: Gaming Rooms (X BOX 360, PS 3, Wii, Kinect, Nintendo 64 and a game cube and a lot of games), 6 tournament size pool tables, ping pong tables, foosball and air hockey, 2 lounge areas with 60” TVs, and a movie room with 132” screen, 18 leather recliners and bean bags.
