With the desktop label printers of the 2824 Plus series from Zebra

we offer you especially space-saving, user-friendly and robust de-

vices with a high performance range. They establish a new perform-

ance standard for the desktop series from Zebra and are ideal for

patient identification, labelling at the chemists’, retail products and

shelf edge labelling, as well as every other application that requires

precise printing on narrow media.

Using the thermal direct process, the LP2824 prints at a maximum

102 mm per second using up to 60 mm wide labels. The resolution

of 8 dots/mm (203dpi) and the expanded memory (4MB Flash, 8MB

SDRAM – optional up to 68MB) guarantees quality printouts in mil-

liseconds even with elaborate applications. In addition, as standard

the Plus series includes the EPL and ZPL programming language, an

automatic recognition of the serial interfaces, Unicode fonts, com-

plete XML compatibility, and all OPOS drivers. The wide range of in-

terfaces and the simple handling ensure integration with almost all

existing systems and guarantee smooth operation without cumber-

some instruction.

The thermal transfer version of the 2824 Plus series also offers a

performance range and functions that as are usually only provided

by large printers. Within the smallest space, a robust label printer is

enclosed in an attractive and compact design with high user-friend-

liness. Thanks to the Open ACCESS Design and diverse setup pro-

grammes, the printer is simple to set up, consumables are easily

replaced, and configurations are carried out in no time at all. Through

its easy handling and the favourable price, the TLP 2824 is the perfect

printer for diverse areas of application, such as for example at the

cash desk, in shops, warehouses, laboratories, archives, in the office,

for product labelling and much more.

Using either the direct thermal or thermal transfer process, the

TLP2924 Plus produces the smallest receipts (19-60 mm wide) at

up to 102 mm/sec. The resolution of 8 dots/mm (203 dpi) and the ex-

panded memory (4MB Flash, 8MB SDRAM – optionally up to 68MB)

The LP 2844 suits all applications with medium volume printing

requirements. It produces labels, tickets or tags using the direct

thermal process and is thereby intended especially for short and

medium-term labeling and similar actions. It does not require a

thermal transfer ribbon, but prints directly onto thermo-sensitive

paper. Due to the strong print contrast, bar codes are presented in

the best possible, easy-to-read manner. Direct thermal printing is

set-up and universal connection – this Zebra printer also shines with

The TLP 2844 produces labels, tickets or tags by using the direct ther-

mal method. It is thereby meant for applications where print-outs are

supposed to be of a lasting nature, exposed to higher temperatures

or subject to mechanical stress. It requires a thermal transfer ribbon

by means of which it prints onto paper, cardboard or even plastics.

Because of the strong print contrast the bar codes are presented in

the best possible and easy-to-read manner.

The printer is available in two different variations have the same fea-

tures and only differ in the programming language. The version TLP

2844-Z uses the ZPL printer language as it is supported by Zebra in-

dustrial printers instead of the programming language EPL common

to other Zebra desktop printers. Thereby it is suitable for integration

into industrial environments that requires ZPL.

The printer disposes of a threefold interface by which it can be con-

nected to the parallel, serial as well as to the USB interface. Besides

texts, the TLP 2844 also prints graphics and bar codes with 8 dots/

As standard, all common functions for the label print are supported,

On the one hand, the R2844-Z is designed to be used as a standard

label printer. It has the same characteristics as its sister model TLP

2844-Z and prints on labels using the direct thermal process. On the

other hand, it reads and encodes special RFID labels during the regu-

lar printing process. The coding of the labels is conducted at 13.56

MHz according to standard Philips I code, Philips EPC, Tag-It, etc.

With the wireless collection of personal or item identification, the

radio frequency technology offers a vast range of possibilities for data

acquisition. The inscription of labels with RF information is conducted

via the Zebra Designer Pro label inscription software.

The R2844-Z prints labels with texts, all common bar codes as well as

graphics at 8 dots/mm (203 dpi) with absolute high quality and speed

(102 mm/sec.) Due to the thermal transfer procedure, all labels are suit-

able for applications in which the print-outs should be long-lasting and

Which version do I need ?

Many Zebra printers are available in two versions: ZPL or EPL.

These abbreviations represent the respective programming lan-

guage as understood by the printer:

EPL (Eltron Programming Language): Earlier, the Zebra desktop

printers were sold under the name Eltron. The Eltron protocol

differs from the Zebra protocol, so that these printers are now

often available in two versions.

ZPL (Zebra Programming Language): is the standard program-

ming language for Zebra printers. Especially bigger industrial

printers are often »talked to« in ZPL.

Please check with help of the software which programming

language the printer is supposed to understand. Is Eltron being

mentioned as the producer, EPL printers are being required as

standard.

The S4M combines industrial label printing for professional demands

with an extremely aggressive price. You therefore provide your

customers with a device that always delivers flawless results even

under permanent stress and at significantly lower price than a conven-

tional industrial printer. Thanks to its high printing speed, even huge

amounts of labels are produced in no time. The printer with its solid

steel casing and robust metal chassis is predestined for the use in

tough environments, e.g. in manufacturing, storage rooms, labora-

tories or workshops.

The S4M prints labels and tags using the direct thermal or thermal

transfer method according to your customer’s demands. The direct

thermal method allows users to produce labels at a budget price, as

it does not need a thermal transfer ribbon. In addition, the thermal

transfer labels are long lasting and tough. The printer is very fast

(152 mm/sec.) and even when processing huge labels it prints high-

resolution graphics accurately at 8 dots/mm (203dpi) or 12 dots/mm

(300 dpi) (depending on the version). To easily integrate into existing

applications, versions with ZPL as well as EPL are available.

A huge selection of interfaces ranging from RS232, over parallel and

USB to Ethernet or even Wi-Fi provides for the correct connection

to any system. Should you not find the desired version in the list

presented below, please put together your individual printer with all

the needed options and functions. Corresponding configuration tables

are to be found starting from page 146.

For special applications, a cost-effective direct thermal version of the

S4M is available. This printer does not need a thermal transfer ribbon,

it prints directly onto the label’s thermal sensitive surface. Depending

on the application, your customer produces labels very cost-effec-

tively using this method. The sturdy metal casing of the printer not

only provides for a particular durable outer cover, but also offers space

for a huge 20.3 cm (8’’) (203 mm) supply roll. This makes handling

the printer very easy: on the one hand, roll exchanges become signi-

figantly less frequent due to the huge label supply as compared to a

normal desktop printer. This allows for processing of large print jobs

without constant monitoring. On the other hand, loading new label

rolls or inserting transfer ribbons is made particularly easy by simply

opening the entire side of the casing. Moreover, all functions of the

device are accessible to the user via the clear front panel with LC

display.

As with all Zebra label printers, the S4M printis labels with using either

a customer-owned application or by means of the Zebra Designer Pro

software. With the help of this software, your client easily produces

With the new edition of the Z-series comes a Zebra series of

unmatched metal printers to the market. They are sturdy, extremely

The 105SL combines extensive label print functions and a very fast

APL-I or APL-D:

Which version is the right one for me?

Zebra midrange and high-end class printers are often integrated

into large networks or systems that are used over a long period

of time. Integration is accomplished easily through several pro-

gramming standards. Two of the most widely used standards

are APL-I and APL-D:

APL (Alternative Programming Language): A programming

language based on a standard protocol for printing technology.

APL-I (APL-Intermec): This standard protocol was initially devel-

oped by Intermec. Intermec has been a renowned supplier of

professional POS hardware for years.

APL-D (APL-Datamax): APL-D is like APL-I a manufacturer stand-

ard. However, in this case the protocol was developed by an-

other renowned manufacturer – Datamax.

Ask your customers which standard they use. This helps to avoid

that directly encode labels with information on their UHF inlays, thus

setting a new standard in terms of price-performance ratio within

Print heads for label printers are wearing parts. The thermal head is in

direct contact with the passing label or transfer ribbon, which causes

continuous abrasion. Once print results become faint or contain

gaps, the print head needs to be replaced. This can be done effort-

lessly with every Zebra printer and is absolutely cost-effective, as the

printer lasts many times longer than a single print head.

For every Zebra label printer we have the right original Zebra print

head. Please remember to order parts according to printer type and

printing technology (thermal direct or thermal transfer), as well as the

resolution (dpi). Some printers are available in versions for up to three

resolutions (203, 300, 600dpi).

For full service solution providers, print heads are an excellent opportu-

nity for extra revenue and customer retention: After changing the print

head it needs to be adjusted first. This guarantees evenly produced

black prints and a long service life of the new thermal line, which other-

is especially suited for use in shipping, industry, warehousing and

production. The versions with 12 dots/mm (300 dpi) or 24 dots/mm

(600 dpi) are predestined for producing sharp, high-quality print-outs

on small product labels, as well high density labels on electronic

components and medical applications. The robust metal housing and

the high printing performance (up to 356 mm/sec.), as well as the fast

RS232, parallel, USB, Ethernet, or Wi-Fi interface (option) qualifies

the printer for a large number of applications.

Easy handling is always guaranteed through the graphical LC display.

The expanded memory (16MB SDRAM, 8MB Flash) allows the

110Xi4 to also print large format labels quickly and in the high quality.

Extensive software tools are included as standard and offer especially

high flexibility and security for the printing process. The familiar high

compatibility with almost all applications is guaranteed through an

optional dispenser, rewinder and cutter, as well as an RFID upgrade

of the fastest printers of the Xi series. A maximum label width of up

greatly reducing interruptions due to lack of consumables. The high

speed combined with the robust sheet steel construction makes

it the ideal printer for critical applications with high throughput in

RS232, parallel, USB, Ethernet or Wi-Fi (option), the 140Xi4 is ideal

for use with applications that require large quantities of labels at short

notice. Configurations are easy to carry out using the large, graphical

LC display, while the expanded memory (16MB SDRAM, 8MB Flash)

allows the 140Xi4 to even print large format labels with a length of

up to 991 mm, both quickly and in high quality. The accustomed

high compatibility with demanding systems is guaranteed through

The 170XiIIIPlus is an excellent choice for special-purpose labels

using various materials (AIAG, ODETTE, UCC/EAN-128) that need to

be produced in large quantities. It prints labels of up to 168 mm width

at a maximum speed of 305 mm per second, with a resolution of

either 12 dots/mm (300 dpi) or 8 dots/mm (203 dpi).

Like all other Xi4 series printers, this high-end device prints labels

using the thermal transfer or direct thermal methods – and thanks to

its sheet steel design also performs reliably under the most difficult

conditions. Configurations are simple to carry out using the large,

graphical LC display, while the expanded memory (16MB SDRAM,

8MB Flash) allows the 140Xi4 to print even large format labels with a

length of up to 991 mm, quickly and in high quality.

Through fast connections via RS232, parallel, USB, Ethernet, or

Wi-Fi (option), you react individually to all the requirements of your

labels up to 991 mm wide in pin sharp quality at a speed of 254 mm

per second. The large memory (16MB SDRAM, 4MB Flash) guaran-

tees fast and reliable printing even of the most complex labels.

The large label supply (up to 203 mm outer diameter) and the robust

steel housing guarantee uninterrupted and continuous use in the

harshest surroundings. High performance make the Xi4 a natural

This compact keyboard display unit (KDU) from Zebra makes bulky

host computers finally obsolete: The new stand-alone keyboard KDU

Plus is compatible with almost all EPL and ZPL desktop, industry,

midrange and high-end printers from Zebra. The Zebra KDU Plus

is designed for versatile use and helps to save valuable space: The

compact QWERTY keyboard is fully supported by the Zebra Barcode

Designer software that allows your customers to call up and print bar

codes and labels independent of additional hardware directly with

the device.

Once connected to a Zebra printer, the KDU Plus can access saved

forms, input variable data and print labels without the need of a

computer.

Direct configuration is done over the dynamic serial port or

alternatively over the integrated PS/2 interface. That means external

devices can be connected directly without the need of a computer.

An AC adaptor is not required either, as the keyboard can use the

5V power supply of the printer. Industry, midrange and high-end

class devices require minor modification of the printer circuit board

configuration.

Using the external Zebranet print server, you easily retrofit your

customer’s parallel Zebra/Eltron printer for use in a network. This in-

creases employee efficiency and makes the printer a lot more useful,

as a central Ethernet label printer can be utilised by any number of

workstations.

For retrofitting, a 10Base-T or a 10/100 print server is available. The

Zebranet print server is compatible with any Zebra or Eltron printer

that uses a parallel interface. Therefore, you are able to prepare all

desktop and mid-range printers from Zebra/Eltron for future require-

ments according to your customer’s wishes.

The upgrade is completed easily: simply plug the external print server

into the Zebra printer’s parallel interface and it is completed. No ex-

ternal power supply is required. Now, connect the printer with any

LAN socket, hub, switch or similar device through a standard network

cable (RJ45). Then allocate an IP to the printer with the help of the

PC using its software. It is now possible to monitor the printer sta-

tus from any computer in the company, and even to execute remote

maintenance tasks.

is a product that was specially designed to meet extensive user

requirements in healthcare institutions. Concept, configuration,

operation and maintenance were all designed with healthcare-

specific structures and processes in mind.

The basic concept of wristband identification is extremely simple:

upon registration, individuals receive a wristband that contains

all important personal data printed in the form of a bar code. The

wristband cannot be opened without damaging it and is available in

various versions for different applications. At every step of treatment,

medical staff scan in patient information using a mobile or stationary

scanner. The system recognises the patients automatically with the

help of a unique ID and determines the necessary treatment. If

necessary, additional information such as name, station and blood

type are printed onto the label as text to increase the safety of

patients - mistakes like incorrect dosages, operations, or diagnosis

are effectively prevented. In other fields that require reliable personal

identification, like R&D departments, laboratories, events, confer-

ences or concerts, wristbands have become imperative.

Customers only need a special printer to create these wristbands.

The new compact HC100 wristband printer from Zebra was specially

designed for patient identification in hospitals and nursing institu-

tions, though it is also the perfect choice for other applications in

production, events, catering, etc.: it is both compact and easy to use.

The only consumables necessary are the wristbands, as the system

uses thermal direct printing – ink ribbons or similar are not required.

Software programmes use standard interfaces. The required drivers

are available for different platforms.

Using the direct thermal method, the HC100 prints all bar codes, text

and even complex pictures at a resolution of 12 dots/mm (300 dpi)

and a maximum printing speed of 51 mm per second, quickly and

in pin sharp quality. High durability guarantees perfect

readouts even after days. Abrasion, water, disinfection

and cleaning agents that are common in hospitals do

not harm the imprint. Maximum width for the wrist-

bands is 30 mm at a maximum printing length of

558 mm and a minimum of 76 mm. In other words,

a wristband offers sufficient space for guaranteed

identification beyond any doubt.

The easy-to-use HC100 helps your customers save money and spare

their nerves: the wristband format is detected automatically. The

following calibration process is also fully automatic. This always leads

to perfect printing results. Clever innovations like easy-to-change

wristband cassettes relieve users immensely.

Like all other printing solutions from Zebra, the

HC100 integrates into existing systems flexibly

and easily. A plus that is especially necessary

in highly complex hospital environments. The

printer is equipped with a standard USB and

serial interface. The printer is also available with

the optional internal ZebraNet 10/100 print server

or Wi-Fi interface for wireless data transfer.

The robust and impact-resistant housing, which is

typical for Zebra products, make the HC100 extremely

durable, impressively compact and lightweight with

less than 1.5 kg. The HC100 supports Unicode for

multi-language printing and all commercial linear bar

codes, as well as 2D bar codes. The HC100 is also

equipped with an odometer for measuring the printing

length and a tear-off mechanism.

is one of the most cost-effective colour card printers of its class.

Modern optics and a compact design, as well as highly durable

plastics at small size, low weight and of course excellent printing

performance make these printers absolutely convincing.

The P100i colour card printer with single-card feed for single-sided

cards allows users to print individually created cards at any time.

Easy-to-use – create personalised cards in seconds only. Cards with

a thickness of up to 1.02 mm are no problem for the P100i. This

desktop device saves you time and trouble. Now, it is easier than

ever to regularly produce different card types (e.g. with personalised

pre-printed cards). The three card compartments at the top of the

printer hold up to 100 cards – always ready and always clean. High-

quality printing is guaranteed with the usual reliability from Zebra at

any time.

Either personalised or fully printed cards are printed within seconds

– monochrome or in colour (it simply depends on the used ink

ribbon). The plastic cards are printed single-sided at 12 dots/mm

(300 dpi) using either the sublimation or the thermal transfer printing

method. Using colour sublimation and the appropriate ink ribbons,

your customers produce especially durable cards for customer

retention systems in retail, employee cards for access control,

or low-cost visitor and member cards. For multi-functional cards,

optional versions are equipped with integrated encoders that write

data to magnetic stripes, smart cards or RFID-Mifare chips.

The P100i is equipped with a standard USB 1.1 interface. This new

version meets all requirements your customers might have and is

even more efficient and favourable than previous single-side card

printers from Zebra. Optional features, such as Ethernet, magnetic

stripe and smart card encoders turn the Zebra P100i into an extremely

flexible and powerful card printer.

The P110i offers your customers high-quality plastic card printing

for customer retention systems in retail, employee cards for access

control, or low-cost visitor and member cards. This desktop printer

produces personalised or fully printed cards with the usual reliability

from Zebra in seconds – either in monochrome or in full colour

(depending on the ink ribbon used). The plastic cards are printed

single-sided with 12 dots/mm (300 dpi) using either the sublimation

or the thermal transfer printing method. Colour sublimation printing

method allows your customer to produce especially durable cards.

The P110i offers a large supply of up to one hundred cards with an

automatic feed system for high efficiency in office and production.

Ink ribbons last for up to 1,000 cards per ribbon and only need to

be changed occasionally. The integrated LCD panel informs the user

very early of the condition of the ink ribbon as well as of all settings

and configurations. Additionally, all printer consumables are easily

changed using an efficient load-and-go method.

The P110i offers a particularly compact design with simplified

operation. Users change consumables, like ribbons and cards, in only

a few seconds and without any training. Even changing the print head

does not require any tools. Error messages are instantly displayed in

the LCD display.

All P1xxi devices are equipped with a standard USB 1.1 interface and

an optional Ethernet interface that allow them to be connected to all

modern PC systems.

The P120i prints both sides of the cards in a single cycle for the price

of a common single-side printer. The Zebra P120i offers a market

leading, compact design and at the same time is one of the most

cost-effective card printers for double-sided full-colour printing.

The P330i is the newest generation of the popular card printers

made by Zebra - already tens of thousands have been installed

globally. Developed for demanding environments, the P330i is

reliable, powerful and suitable for large quantity printing. Additional

networking and encoding options offer high flexibility and allow highly

Using original Zebra consumables, your customer can create individ-

ually designed plastic cards with vivid, realistic colours in professional

especially attractive customer retention in full colour.

We also offer the low-cost P330m version, the professional card

printer for price-sensitive market segments. With the appropriate ink

ribbon the P330m produces cards in only monochrome and therefore

is ideally adapted for customer and identification cards. The easy-to-

use architecture of the high-performance card printers from the P3xx

series opens up new possibilities: the standard supply of 100 cards

is covered by a transparent lid that allows users to anticipate reloads

even while the cards are printed. If that is not sufficient, an optional

card loader for 220 cards provides almost interruption-free

production.

The patented angular card loader guarantees a low amount

of rejected cards during production and the self-aligning print

head allows consistent printing quality without complicated

The software kit CardFive helps you to effortlessly design ID and

customer cards with individual layouts. It is compatible with card

printers from various manufacturers. The clear user interface is easy

and convenient to use – perfect results are generated in just a matter

of minutes.

CardFive includes many useful tools and functions for creating cards

that are used in various applications. Pictures can be imported from

external devices directly. Hours of picture editing are a thing of the

past. CardFive offers everything for personalised batch printing.

It is available as a classic version without database integration or

with support for txt, csv, Access or ODBC interfaces. The software

controls the printer directly using its own DCL driver (Direct-

OPOS Protocol

OPOS is a protocol for controlling POS hardware. It was estab-

lished by Microsoft in 1994, and since then continuously im-

proved in cooperation with leading POS system and component

manufacturers.

In a brief period of time, OPOS had become de facto standard

for POS hardware: In addition to manufacturer-specific proto-

cols, many POS peripherals (such as POS printers, customer

displays, scanners, etc.) are compatible with this protocol.

For your customer this leads to a larger choice of compatible pe-

ripheral and eventually easily extendable systems: Customers

are not required to buy devices that are specifically supported

by their software. Now users have access to a large variety of

peripherals, if the software supports the OPOS standard.

For system developers OPOS offers advantages as well: It is

not necessary anymore to adjust the software to every new

device. A more flexible software application that requires less

drivers and configuration is the result.
