We thank God for a great beginning in our first four months together. Let’s review a few highlights from the first 120 days:
November - The bulletin front page was redesigned to include our updated logo. The staff produced a new visitor publication called “Let’s Get Acquainted” (Andy leaves this when visiting in homes). Southern Hills hosted a leadership event for area elderships (now an annual event). 2017 adult classes were planned and the offerings were advertised via a flyer.
December - The staff assembled a calendar of major events for the year. “God’s Game Plan” was taught in the auditorium to explain abundant life in Christ (it will be taught in the fellowship hall this spring and to “Yo Pros” this summer). Sunday Night Psalms got under-way this month.
January - We announced our 2017 theme, The Year of Growth, which lays the foundation for The Decade of Growth. The congregational memory verse was introduced and read prior to worship. A prospectus outlining growth plans was distributed. In it, we introduced a new ministry for preschool families called Lambs of the Light. Kid’s Corner was launched to teach memory work and Bible facts. Families began using the One Word devotional guide (Andy uses this for mid-week devotionals).
February - We held a retreat for elders, deacons and ministers. The theme focused on becoming Ideal Team Players. An outline of the weekly sermon began appearing in the bulletin. On the back are questions For the Drive Home to review and apply the lesson. Stoney and Donna Warren and Jerald and Peggy Hill were honored for their long-time service (see below).
Lisa and I are delighted to be at Southern Hills. We hope you are pleased with the direction we are moving (Zechariah 4.10). To God be the glory!
