From: Ara Sent: July 14, 2013 12:44 AM To: Newprosperityreview [CEAA] Subject: Please Take a Stand for Tsilhqot’in Rights Dear Honourable Peter Kent, Minister of the Environment, Honourable Christy Clark, Premier of

British Colombia, Mr. Adrian Dix, Leader of the Opposition Party, and the Canada Federal Review

Panel:

I stand with the Tsilhqot’in Nation in calling on you to do everything in your power to protect Tezan

Biny and halt the New Prosperity Mine. The Tsilhqot’in call on the BC and federal governments to

uphold their fiduciary duties to protect Tsilhqot’in rights and title, which means protecting Teztan

Biny and Little Fish Lake from the dangerous mining proposal titled New Prosperity Mine by Taseko

Mines Limited. I call on the reform of BC's outdated mining laws to be compliant with the standards

found in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, [the Declaration]

including the full implementation and enforcement of the right to Free, Prior and Informed Consent.

To date no effective consultation has taken place with the Tsilhqot’in people. I also urge the federal

environmental review to take into consideration Article 12 of the Declaration which states that

Indigenous peoples have the right to maintain, protect, and have access in privacy to their religious

and cultural sites. As cultural and spiritual sites for the Tsilhqot’in, they must continue to enjoy

access to and protection of Teztan Biny, Little Fish Lake, and the surrounding water system.

As Chief Roger WIlliam said, "It's time for [Taskeo] to fold up their tent and move on."

Sincerely,

Ara Cruz

I am most concerned about the tailings pond. Should this proposal go through the Tsilhqot'in Nation will then exist alongside the toxic and perpetual waste from a short term financial gain by the mine owners. This is not neighbourly, nor worthwhile for anyone who lives, hunts, fishes, traps, or sustains a traditional way of life near Fish Lake. The first nations have repeatedly requested not to have the mine located in their territory. Placing a mine and it's tailing pond in this sensitive area is not the right choice for BC. The opportunities for great destruction far outweigh the benefits. I do not want to see studies that show the rate of cancer of the Tsilhqot'in Nation is 7 times higher than the provincial average...why is that? Or our grizzly population is near extinction...why is that? Let's focus on a province that supports the True North Strong and Free. Many groups and individuals support the Tsilhqot’in in their efforts to protect their territory from the proposed New Prosperity mine. Stop the mine. From: Joann Sent: July 14, 2013 7:44 PM To: Newprosperityreview [CEAA] Subject: Please Take a Stand for Tsilhqot’in Rights Dear Honourable Peter Kent, Minister of the Environment, Honourable Christy Clark, Premier of

Sincerely,

Joann Koch
