Reduce operating costs with Power L922 Server running IBM Cloud Private1.66X price-performance per rack unit over tested Intel Xeon SP Gold 6130 servers (Skylake)

1. Based on IBM internal testing of a VM image running the Acme Air workload (https://github.com/acmeair) with containers bound to a socket including a MongoDB microservice. Results valid as of 3/17/18. and conducted under laboratory condition with

speculative execution controls to mitigate user-to-kernel and user-to-user side-channel attacks on both systems, individual result can vary based on workload size, use of storage subsystems & other conditions.

LinuxONE – far superior to x86 for running Oracle databases

Page 22: From Critical Sytems to Artificial Intelligence. Systems ... · IBM Power L922 (2x8-core/3.4 GHz/256 GB memory) 2 x 600GB SATA 7.2K rpm LFF HDD, 10 Gb two-port, 1 x 16gbps FCA, EDB

To achieve its goal, the Met Office selected

two IBM LinuxONE servers, each with 22

cores running Red Hat Enterprise Linux

operating system.

“Across just two Linux ONE cores

in our Rockhopper, we can easily

support between 100 and 200

virtual instances,” explains Ron

Eland. “To host an environment of

this size, you would need 40 or

even 50 physical x86 servers, so

this approach is so much more

efficient.

A large telecom consolidated 14

instances of Oracle database

on to a LinuxONE with 10 cores,

performing work of 80 cores of x86.

Improved SQL performance by

greater than 20%.

Moved 30 production apps from x86 to LinuxONE in just 90 days, realized 40%

reduction in TCO, and achieved a “future-proof” architecture.
