Apart from the local and regional environmental risks, this kind of a project would lock Canada into an unsustainable economic arrangement that is vulnerable to major swings in energy prices. It would further tarnish the image of Canada as somewhat of a laggard in taking action on climate change. Now is the time to make a decisive move towards more sustainable economic and commercial projects that do not come at the expense of the environment, and to move away from the kinds of projects that have already caused great damage especially on the climate change front. I truly hope and expect that you would show leadership by rejecting this proposed project and move Canada in a much more sustainable trajectory in the years ahead.
