SPEAKER PROFILES

Richard Wilmot-Smith Q.C., 1st Keynote Speaker, 39 Essex St Chambers, London

Richard Wilmot-Smith Q.C. has been practicing as a barrister in the field of construction and engineering and arbitration for thirty four years

and has been a QC for nineteen years. He has acted as counsel in many domestic and international arbitrations both ad hoc and under rules.

He has also served as joint arbitrator, sole arbitrator and chairman in international arbitrations under rules, particularly ICC, LCIA and DIAC.

As arbitrator his arbitrations have involved involve food franchises, energy projects, telecommunications, intellectual property disputes, agency

agreements, PFI projects and construction and engineering. He was author and now editor of the OUP publication Construction Contracts,

Law and Practice; first edition 2006, third edition due March 2014. He was joint head and then head of 39 Essex Street Chambers 2003-2011.

Bruce Collins QC, XXIV Old Building Chambers & Wentworth Chambers

Bruce Collins has practised extensively in arbitration for over 36 years.

He is a member of the I.C.C. Court of International Arbitration in Paris, a member of the I.O.C. Court of Arbitration for Sport, an Adjunct

Professor of Law and honorary lecturer in International Commercial Arbitration.

He is a former Assistant Commissioner against Corruption in N.S.W., a Supreme Court Referee, and Supreme Court Neutral Evaluator.

He lectures widely in arbitration subjects,is presently chairing the N.S.W. Government Enquiry into Insolvency in the Construction Industry and

representing Australia in the World Trade Organisation proceedings in Geneva commenced by Ukraine, Honduras and the Dominican

Republic. He has Chambers in Eleven Wentworth, Sydney and in Arbitration Chambers Hong Kong.

Alec Emmerson, Consultant, Clyde and Co, Middle East Disputes Expert

Alec was a Partner of Clyde & Co in Guildford, Hong Kong, London and Dubai for 30 years and remains in Dubai as a consultant with the

Firm. He has acted as party counsel in numerous ICC, LCIA, SCMA, CIETAC, DIAC,ADCCAC, AAA, UNCITRAL,CAMM and ad hoc

arbitrations involving international trade, joint ventures, insurance/reinsurance, property, telecommunications, infrastructure, energy and

shipping/ship building. Since becoming a consultant 4 years ago he has become well known as an international arbitrator accepting

appointments as Chair, Co-Arbitrator and Sole Arbitrator in a similar range of disputes mainly involving parties in Europe, Middle East, India

and Asia. In 2011 a leading directory described Alec as "disputes Czar…." and he is recognised in GAR, Chambers, Who's Who Legal and

other publications as an arbitrator and mediator. He speaks regularly at conferences and on business radio as well as writing on arbitration

topics.

Antonios Dimitracopoulos, Partner, Bin Shabib & Associates (BSA) LLP

Antonios is a qualified Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England & Wales since 1994 as and a Greek Attorney at Law since 1991. He is a DIFC

Courts Registered Practitioner (Part 2) and has been practising in the UAE since 1995 initially with Clifford Chance Dubai until 2001 and

subsequently with Al Tamimi & Co. before joining Bin Shabib & Associates LLP as partner in 2007. His practice focuses on all aspects of

dispute resolution, primarily in the local real estate and construction industry, acting mainly for international clients. Quoted in the past by both

Legal 500 and Chambers Global, as "responsive and commercially aware, noted for his deep analysis of construction law disputes and as a

prominent contributor to regional publications" and ""extremely solid and knowledgeable of construction disputes and transactions."

Ruth Stackpool-Moore, Managing Counsel, HKIAC

Ruth is an Australian and UK qualified lawyer working as Managing Counsel of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC). She

oversees the administration of arbitrations and other forms of dispute resolution proceedings at the HKIAC and works to promote the use of

Hong Kong arbitration and other forms of dispute resolution worldwide. Prior to joining the HKIAC, Ruth worked with several international law

firms in London, Sydney and Paris advising on a wide range of proceedings including international commercial arbitrations conducted under

law jurisdictions. She also provided advice regarding the formulation and drafting of arbitration and dispute resolution clauses in commercial

contracts, including multi-party and multi-contract situations. Ruth graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Economics

(Social Science) in 2001 and a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Hons) in 2005. She was admitted as solicitor of the Supreme Court of New

South of Wales and High Court of Australia in 2006 and in England and Wales in 2010.

Christopher Grout, Registrar, Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre

Christopher has been based at the QICDRC in Doha for just over one year. As Registrar, he is head of the Registry that services both the

Qatar International Court and the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Tribunal. He also manages the Dispute Resolution Centre which, over

the past year, has played host to a number of arbitrations and mediations where, in the case of arbitrations, the seat has been the State of

Qatar. In addition, the Qatar International Court exercises judicial oversight where the seat of the arbitration is the Qatar Financial Centre and

so this too falls within Christopher's remit. More specifically, Christopher is responsible for the management aspects of the Centre and in

particular the case management of cases that come before the Court and Tribunal. Where required, Christopher will provide procedural

directions in relation to cases and, along with his team, will be available to assist parties with any queries they may have in relation to the

workings of the Centre. Amongst other things, he chairs a number of QICDRC-user committees, actively engages with the development of

legal and judicial education and training in the State of Qatar and provides ad-hoc lectures at a number of universities both in Qatar and the

United Kingdom. Furthermore, Christopher is a practicing barrister in England and Wales at 15 New Bridge Street, the Chambers of David

Aarongberg QC and James Mulholland QC, having been called to the Bar (Inner Temple) in 2007. Christopher's main specialism is in the field

of crime where he regularly defends across a broad spectrum of criminal offences.

Zachary Sharpe, In-house lawyer at Hyundai Heavy Industries CO.Ltd

Zachary Sharpe is an in-house lawyer at Hyundai Heavy Industries where he manages a number of international arbitration and dispute-

related matters connected with the shipbuilding, offshore and construction industries. Prior to joining Hyundai Heavy Industries, he spent

several years working as a senior foreign attorney at a maritime law firm in Seoul focusing on shipping, shipbuilding, insurance and trade

disputes. Zac is a member of the International Advisory Committee to the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board and their Panel of Arbitrators.

For many years, he has also coached the arbitration teams of the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea. He

is admitted to practice law in New York.

Christopher To, Executive Director, Hong Kong Construction Industry Council

Christopher To is the Executive Director Construction Industry Council, a statutory body in Hong Kong tasked among other functions to advise

and make recommendations to the Government on strategic matters, major policies and legislative proposals, that may affect or are

connected with the construction industry, and on matters of concern to the construction industry. As former Secretary-General of the Hong

Kong International Arbitration Centre, he managed to elevate Hong Kong's status as the regional dispute resolution hub of Asia by increasing

the number of international dispute cases being referred to Hong Kong for amiable resolution as well as creating the Asian Domain Name

Dispute Resolution Centre, a body that has gain international prominence within the dot.com community as a reliable, trustworthy,

independent and reputable entity that manages domain name disputes. In recognition of his outstanding leadership and his contribution to the

community, in 2001 he was honored as the youngest Director of the Year in Hong Kong and in 2007 he was honored as a Young Global

Leader by the World Economic Forum. Christopher holds qualifications in computing, engineering and law. He is a recognized authority on

alternative dispute resolution techniques and is a sought-after speaker/moderator at international forums. He holds Adjunct Professorships

from leading Universities and is on the board of various organisations ranging from education to research and development.

Aasma A. Khan, Chief Legal Officer, Tameer Holding Investment

Aasma Khan's career path already had shape and direction when she left the Chicago-Kent College of Law at the Illinois Institute of

Technology in 1997 with a J.D. degree and Honors, coupled with a Certificate and Honors in International Law. She completed a Certificate in

International & Comparative Law the same year from Columbia University Law School. Khan has put her advanced legal specialty to excellent

use—working for more than eight years in the Middle East as a Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel. As the Chief Legal Officer of Tameer

Holding Investment since 2009, her responsibilities are extensive. More than oversight of the legal function, Khan helped to turn around the

perception of Tameer's brand while reducing the costs of onerous contracts and mitigating their inherent risk. Along the way, her ability to

pinpoint the right legal questions had a profound impact on litigations and the demand for integration of legal and business strategies to

broaden market opportunities. Khan has managed the explosion of litigation and arbitration in the property sector on behalf of Tameer with a

combination of commercial strategies, dispute resolution, mediate solutions, and traditional litigation and arbitration.

Jason H.J Kim, Regional General Counsel, LG Electronics

Jason H.J. Kim is a Regional General Counsel of LG Electronics, heading the legal team for the Middle East and African division of the global

electronics company. Jason has been heavily involved in helping LG to expand its business in more than 79 countries and has first-hand

experience implementing legal and business strategies in this developing region. As the first LG Regional General Counsel in the MEA

Region, Jason has also for the past 3 years spearheaded the organization and implementation of LG's legal team in the MEA Regional

Headquarters. Specifially, Mr. Kim has developed experience in the areas of corporate establishment, anti-trust issues, dispute management,

sanctions, mergers & acquisitions, technology and distribution matters. Jason is a Korean-qualified lawyer, having graduated from the Korea

Univeristy in Korea. Jason also holds qualifications in tax and patent law. Mr. Kim is a founding member of the Islamic Law Committee in

Korea and a member of the Jurisprudence Society of Islamic Law.

Richard Briggs, Executive Partner, Hadef & Partners

Richard is a recognised leader in commercial dispute resolution in the UAE and has practised contentious business law in the UAE for most of

his career. His areas of specialisation are in the litigation and arbitration fields, particularly with reference to maritime, trade and insurance law

in the United Arab Emirates and the Middle East area. Prior to working at Hadef, Richard trained with Clifford Chance in London and Dubai,

later joining another UAE firm as a partner. He graduated from the University of Warwick (LLB) and the College of Law, Guildford (United

Kingdom). Richard is a member of the Law Society and a Practicing Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Walers, and also a

member of the International Bar Association and World Jurist Association. He is currently the Vice-Chair of the IBA Maritime Committee and a

member of the ICC FraudNet network for the UAE.

Robert Karrar-Lewsley, Barrister & Senior Associate, Al Tamimi & Company

Robert is a barrister and Senior Associate in the arbitration team of Al Tamimi & Company (DIFC office). He regularly advises and represents

clients in high-value international and domestic arbitrations relating to commercial, construction and property disputes under various

institutions (including the ICC, DIFC-LCIA, DIAC and ADCCAC). His clients include government entities, multi-national companies, real estate

developers, and investors. Robert studied law at the London School of Economics (2003, LLB Hons first class), winning prizes in business law

and jurisprudence. He was called to the Bar of England & Wales in 2004 and practised in chambers before moving to Dubai in 2009. In

addition to his arbitration practice Robert also represents clients before the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts.

Edward Sunna, Chief Legal Officer, Meraas Holding

Edward is an Australian qualified lawyer admitted as a Solicitor and Barrister since 1998. He currently holds the position of Chief Legal Officer

with a semi government developer based in Dubai Meraas Holding and is the General Legal Advisor to the Engineering Office of His Highness

the Ruler of Dubai. Edward is a Chartered Arbitrator and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators sitting on the panel with the Dubai

International Arbitration Centre (DIAC); the Singapore International Arbitration Center (SIAC) and the list of Arbitrators with the London Court

of International Arbitration (LCIA). Edward developed his legal expertise in Australia and Dubai in the construction and real estate sectors.

Prior to joining Meraas Edward was with Al Tamimi & Company's construction practice in Dubai and represented both Claimants and

Respondents in numerous property and construction arbitration disputes and continues to sit as arbitrator in numerous dispute matters.

Edward is also a part-time lecturer and advisor in law with the Real Estate Regulatory Agency (RERA) training college, the Dubai Real Estate

Institute and author of a number of real estate publications.

Dr. Imad Al Jamal, Managing Director, International Dispute Resolution and Arbitration Centre, (IDRAAC)

Worked as an expert, claims consultant and Certified Arbitrator with Abu Dhabi Commercial and Arbitration Centre (ADCCAC), as well as
