Design – good to confront tough crisis

• Design - a set of actions that leads to creation of a product that is functional, ergonomic, aesthetic, useful and accepted by the wide spectrum of users. Design is a philosophy about how to create products and services. Design has to pay off.

What is the purpose of the Project?• Design Accelerator is an AGREEMENT, which

purpose is to:– promote issues regarding design and product and

innovation management,– to stymulate exchange of information, knowledge and

experience between entrepreneurs and designers, architects and engineers,

– lobby for the presence of good design in the city and the social conscience,

– support entrepreneurs and education institutions in creation of competitive products on the market,

– support entrepreneurs and education institutions in finding qualified, creative designers

• The mission of schools is to develop creative thinking among the young generation. Modern tools for 3D modelling help to do that. Education of teachers and access to such software as 3DSMax, Inventor, Revit, Civil3D enable development of creative thinking. The mentioned tools will also help to create virtual physical and math labs.

• Knowledge of modern tendencies in design is a key to the development of small and medium enterprises, which during the crisis have to realise their project quickly and in short series. Conferences and workshops organised thanks to the EU funding shall help in proper choice of tools, ideas, contacts, teams of specialists and technologies.

Revitalisation of old commercial route in the Nadodrze area

The main goal of the old commercial routes revitalisation project is to change the contemporary poor image of the borough, to use their unique atmosphere and to restore its artistic and craft character.

Nadodrze area, a priority revitalisation sector, covers one of the most important old commercial routes: Chrobrego Street, through św. Macieja Square and Łokietka Street leading to the Wroclaw Market Square. Most of the tenement houses here date back to the turn of XIXth and XXth century. They belong to unique architectural design.

In the close future it is supposed to be a place for prestigious and off beat shopping, complementing the offer of the Wroclaw Market Square – STREET OF DESIGNERS.

Nadodrze shop-windows – A view to the world

The goal is to create a system of shop-windows for the local shops and craft workshops for the Nadodrze borough along with the popularisation of design idea among the entrepreneurs.Nadodrze shop-windows shall stand out and contribute to the creation of a new coherent brand of the borough.

The system shall be created thanks to cooperation with the Academy of Art: during the academic year of 2009/2010 a competition among the students of this university is to be conducted.

Vocational Development Centre „Leaning Chimney”

• Modernisation of industrial buildings complex along the main communication route.

The centre shall be:

• a place of international exchange and meetings with famous experts on fashion, art, design

• a place to promote a Wroclaw brand

• a place to improve vocational skills in the artistic and craft field

• a seat for the Design Accelerator

Thanks to its unique climat the place is perfect for a modern design centre.

• Knowledge without practice does not guarantee a success. Just as practice without solid knowledge. Thanks to Accelerator a whole programme of apprenticeships and probations for Wroclaw students shall be created. The programme shall be realised in designer teams of Polish and foreign companies.

• Design is a complicated process. Product shall be accepted according to different measures – it has to be practical, economical, ergonomic, etc. A discussion with the University of Economics in Wroclaw is being held at the moment regarding creation of new postgraduate studies in Design Management.

• Best results are obtained through observation of professionals at their work. The Accelerator shall enable contact with world-known DESIGNERS. Lectures and workshop conducted by the specialists shall be a perfect opportunity for local traders and entrepreneurs to get acquainted with new trends and mechanisms ruling the world design.

Solny Square

• Each initiative requires a place for existance. Design Accelerator is not an institute, but a project based on network actions catalysed by the initiators and partners of the project. We would like Solny Square in Wroclaw to become a meeting place for designers. There shall be:

1) A meeting centre „Designers workshop” – a renovated building at Solny Square in Wroclaw shall become a place where designers, traders, citizens of Wroclaw can meet and discuss various matters concerning desing, exchange ideas and initiate new projects etc.;

2) Shop-windows for young designers – events accompanied by presentations and sales of young designers’ products (as well as students’)

Competition Young Design • The organizator of the competition is the Polish Institute for

Industrial Design

• In 2010 and in the context of the Design Accelerator Wrocław will be involved in its organization

• The goal is to select the most promising designers (students, graduates) and to promote their works in the market

• Their works will be judged by the representatives of design-related companies such as: NOTI, Vox, IKEA, Duka, Zelmer, Black Red White, Leroy Merlin

• The winner will obtain a grant amounting to 20 thousands PLN
