Keep That Body Moving!! We have several new “health wise” activities available right here at our clubhouse; you don’t have to leave the property to enjoy them. They are: Silver Sneakers exercise program with Rita Demore on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 9:00; Ballroom Dancing lessons with Ron and Doris Lazarski at 3:00 on Thursday afternoons and Line Dancing with Sheila Reed on Wednesday afternoons at 2:00. There is a $3.00 fee for the Line Dancing and maybe a small fee for the Silver Sneakers class if you don’t have eligible insurance. So take advantage of these great classes and let’s enjoy living the “Kings Pointe Lifestyle”!!!

EDITOR’S NOTES Barb Van Epps ([email protected])

Busy, busy month, again. Check out the calendar for all the activities going on. Food, Fun,

My thanks to Pam Pullen for proofing this Newsletter.

THANK YOU NOTES

I would like to sincerely thank everyone who showed me such heartfelt kindness after my sudden loss of my beloved husband of 53+ years, Carl. The many cards, personal wishes and hugs were greatly appreciated. Again, thank you. Lee Poulin

SUNSHINE Pam Pullen

If you know of someone who has been ill or hospitalized, or has lost a loved one, please contact Pam Pullen (956-

1399) or one of her “sunshine squad” helpers: Shannon Mason, Garnell Friend, Anna Bellizzie, Ceal Arquitt, Shirley Ackerman, Phyllis Wiepert, and Yvonne Fitts.

ILLNESSES, SURGERIES AND HOSPITALIZATIONS

Rudy Malenfant is back in the hospital dealing with breathing issues again. From there he will go to rehab to gain back his strength. His card play cronies miss him at their cribbage games.

SAD NEWS

For this month it is good news, as no one has lost a loved one that we know about.

NEW FACES – NEW FRIENDS

We have a new resident to welcome this month:

Jim Odum 158 Winterdale Drive N.

Jim is a part-time resident coming to us all the way from Jacksonville, Florida. He is a retired educator, has 2 children and 2 grandchildren.

KINGS POINTE VENDOR FAIR Friday, February 21, 2014 from 9AM to 3 PM.

As you know, for months now we have been compiling a list of vendors, contractors and their services. We have contacted these vendors and a Vendor Fair has been scheduled for Friday, February 21, 2014, from 9 to 3 PM at the Clubhouse to introduce residents to them. This is your opportunity to meet and greet these vendors and find out what services they offer. There is a charge for them to be at the clubhouse, so we want our residents to show a round of interest and show up to this Fair. This is for all of our benefit so that we can get quality contractors and services for this park. Thank you in advance. Bob Pelletier, 2nd Vice President Kings Pointe HOA, Vendor Fair Chairman.

ARE YOU READY TO TRIP THE LIGHT FANTASTIC?

Ron and Doris Lazarski will be teaching basic Ballroom Dancing steps. We would like to start with Fox Trot and Waltz. Please join us on Thursday, February 6th at 3:00 p.m. in the Clubhouse. Singles and couples are welcome. There is no cost for the lessons. This is mostly for fun. We would suggest you wear shoes suitable for dancing, i.e. no tennis shoes or flip flops. Please call us at 612-597-5468 if you have any further questions.

OR

Line Dancing lessons will be given by Sheila Reed at the Clubhouse on Wednesday afternoons at 2:00. The cost for each lesson is $3.00. Appropriate shoes are suggested.

LADIES LUNCHEON Sue Seymour

Our Christmas party was a huge success! The donation to the senior orphans was beyond my expectations and I am so proud of our ladies of Kings Pointe. I would also like to thank everyone who contributed to this event; it sure made some seniors happy. There is a Santa Claus! And, as usual, I truly believe that Kings Pointe has the best cooks anywhere. Thanks again for the wonderful donations. January’s luncheon is at Arabellas on the 22nd. The sign- up sheet is at the clubhouse. February’s luncheon is going to be on February 19th at 12pm at Egg Haven, 301 3rd Street SW, Winter Haven. The sign-up sheet will be at the clubhouse on the first of February. Any questions, please call Sue @ 956-0525.

GARDEN CLUB Nancy Higgins The Garden Club took a trip to John Shirah's house in Lakeland. He is a propagator and seller of camellias. He has over 100 beautiful varieties. We learned about proper culture and we looked at all the different types. On the 27th we had a regular meeting and discussed gardening in Florida. Next month we are going to Parksdale for strawberry short cake and plant shopping. The Garden Club meets the second and fourth Mondays at 1 o'clock in the dining room except for an occasional special trip. Everyone is welcome; contact any Garden Club member for more details.

BOOK CLUB Yvonne Fitts

The Book Club will meet on Monday, Feb 3rd at the Club House to discuss the book THE PATRON SAINT OF LIARS by author Ann Patchiest. We will also discuss THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS as no one attended the January discussion. We will meet at 11:30 and after discussion we will have lunch at Sweet Magnolia Tea Room in Auburndale. Everyone should bring 2 book suggestions for future reading.

EARLY RISERS BREAKFAST CLUB Yvonne Fitts

The Early Risers Breakfast Club will meet at 8:00am on Thursday, Feb. 20th at Hometown Cafe, 117 E Lake Ave, Auburndale. Join us for good eats and good company.

CITIZEN ASSISTED PATROL Dick Cross

Thank you to our active members. This month we had a total of 151 patrols for a total of 425 volunteer hours.

SAFETY TIP OF THE MONTH: Protect your identity on your computer by using passwords that include upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols. Don't use birthdays, pet names, or other easily guessed combinations. St@Y$Af3 (stay safe)!

VETERANS ASSOCIATION Michael McCraney, Commander

I would like to thank all of those here in the park for your support and generous donations for our Veterans Dinner last month. A fantastic "Job Well Done" to Sal and Jaye LoBianco for a great dinner. You two always go above and beyond. To your crew for their outstanding preparation to make us all very satisfied and very thankful, again, thank you for your help.

I want to also thank all our Veterans who participated in the serving of the meal, and the clean up. A job well done. Thank you to Ron Stubbendick for conducting the salute to the armed forces and to our Commander in Chief. To all Veterans: If you have not paid your dues, please do so at our next meeting on Feb. 6, 2014. There will be a guest speaker, Mr. John Murphy, Ret. Col., Pilot. We will be serving a breakfast that morning also for our Veterans group. Thank you and God Bless America. And God Bless all of you.

TEXAS HOLD-EM Sal LoBianco

Another good turnout for Texas Hold-em. Nineteen players came out to battle it out for 1st place. Leroy Grossman came in 1st; Bob Pelletier 2nd; and Lou Schuitema 3rd. I think I will have to put a bounty on Leroy. We need seven players to have a Tournament of Champions. So, let’s see what we can do Feb 1st. As always, thanks to the dealers, Bud, Lionel and Rosalie. Please, if you sign up then can't make it, let me know so I can get another player. I can always play 21 players. See you all on Feb 1st.

ALWAYS LEAVE THEM LAUGHING (OR AT LEAST SMILING)

Almost all of us are familiar with Murphy’s Law, but I ran across Murphy’s Other 15 Laws and thought you might like them.

1. Light travels faster than sound. That is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

2. A fine is a tax for doing wrong; a tax is a fine for doing well. 3. He who laughs last, thinks slowest. 4. A day without sunshine is like, well, night. 5. Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine. 6. Those who live by the sword, get shot by those who don’t. 7. Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool. 8. The 50-50-90 rule: Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right; there’s a 90%

probability you’ll get it wrong. 9. It is said that if you line up all the cars in the world end-to-end, someone from California would

be fool enough to try to pass them. 10. If the shoe fits, get another one just like it. 11. The things that come to those who wait may be the things left by those who got there first. 12. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day

drinking beer. 13. Flashlight: a case for dead batteries. 14. God gave you toes as a device for finding furniture in the dark. 15. When you go to court, you are putting yourself in the hands of 12 people who weren’t smart

enough to get out of jury duty.

INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE

Our Journey to God starts with one small step at a time. He doesn't expect us to run the mile--- but He promises to give us strength to go the distance.

Who Do You Call?

With so many repairmen out there, how do you decide who to call when you need some work done? We want to give you a place to start your search. The Kings Pointe HOA would like your input to help compile a list of vendors who have done work for homeowners in

the park. Sometimes a vendor’s work is excellent and we want to tell everyone about it. Sometimes their work is not up to par and we want to tell our neighbors about that, too. Below you will find a form to use to give us your feedback about vendors you have used. This should also include

people within the park (non-businesses) who have done work for you. Please take a few minutes to fill it out, telling us the good, the bad and the ugly. Return your completed form to the box in the clubhouse lobby. If you need additional forms, they will also be available there.

KINGS POINTE VENDOR RECOMMENDATION FORM

Please take a few moments to let us know about vendors you have used over the past few years and let

us know about your experiences with them. Fill out a section for each vendor you have used. Rate them from 1 star (not very good) to 5 stars (excellent work). Add any comments (pros and cons) you wish to explain your rating.
