July-Aug 2016
From Our President:
Hi Everyone,
Summer, it finally feels as though it is here. As with many
years in the past, we went right from winter to—
construction zones everywhere! I read a sign on Cimarron
today that said the interchange project won't be finished until
the fall of 2017. So we have that to look forward to for
awhile. Just drive slowly and read the signs!! We don't want
anyone getting hurt coming to a meeting.
Jill's seminar was quite fun. I learned a lot about using Tra-
ditions paints and the extender! We had a good turn-out, and
I think everyone had a really good time. We even got to
spend a little time with Nancy Jefferson which was also nice.
I want to give a special shout out to everyone who worked to
make this such a fun weekend, and to those who fed us so
well. You are an amazing group!!
Next thing up is the picnic! Sandi and I will supply hot dogs,
hamburgers, and drinks. The rest of you can bring the sides
and desserts.. Beach party attire would be fitting for our
party!!! The festivities will begin at eleven and go ‘til
whenever! Remember, the price of admission is either a
painted memory box or ten dollars! We are looking for-
ward to seeing all of you here on July 23rd.
And, then comes the Garden Sale on July 30 & 31. My veg-
gie garden area is already being filled up with plants and we
still don't have any of the plants from Sandi's nursery friend.
Those should start arriving shortly. Then it's up to me to
keep it all alive until July 30 & 31 . I'm hoping that you are
creating a piece of garden art for this sale! This project is a
new endeavor for our group, so I'm hoping to have a won-
derful showing of all of your talents.
It's only July, but the end of the year will be here before we
know it and the chapter is going to need a new board! Not
trying to get pushy, but please think about it!!!
Hugs,
Peggi
Picnic, July 23, 11:00
Hamburgers, Hot Dogs & Drinks provided..bring side dish
or dessert to share (and a Memory Box).
Directions: 746 N. Pine St., Woodland Park
From I-25: Take exit 141 and go west on Hwy 24 into the
hills. Woodland Park is 18 miles west of I-25. Go 6 tenths
of a mile past McDonald's in Woodland Park, turn right
onto Pine Street. Go another 1/2 mile or so. It is the last
house on the left - a grey stucco ranch, bright blue roof, and
a six foot metal rooster in the front yard. You can park in
the front drive, along the street, or, as a last resort, in the
back drive. I'm trying to keep the back drive open for those
who have difficulty walking. The picnic is in the backyard,
to the right of the back drive. ...Peggi

Remember to bring your Show and Tell to any meeting.
Dear Chapter Members!
Happy 4th of July! I hope your Summer is treating you well –
the heat is sure something! Whew! It’s is great time to go down
to the cool basement and paint. We have some time left for pre-
paring for the garden sale at Peggi’s in July! I hope you have all
gotten an opportunity to get something ready for that. This
really is our only big fund-raiser for the year
If you attended Jillybean Fitzhenry’s seminar you were not dis-
appointed! We had such a great weekend and came away with
some wonderful pieces as well as another special experience
with Jill. She is someone everyone should get to spend some
time with. What a sweet person. Thank you Seminar Team for a
great job!
I’m sorry that I missed the June meeting – but I will tell you that
Ireland was wonderful! AND I even kissed the Blarney Stone!
But the highlight was the gardens at Blarney Castle – WOW!
I’ll tell you all about it next time I get a chance.
Jana Towery was to do a watercolor project for the August meet-
ing; however, her house has sold and she is moving to Austin on
July 18. That leaves the August program open, so if you have
an idea for a program, please contact me (Cindy) right away.
We are surely going to miss Jana!!
Then believe it or not the Retreat is right around the corner! I
cannot wait to see all of you there! I’m sure the weekend will be
very special! Start saving now and get signed up soon.

September Library Display
21C Library
We have the glass display case at 21C Library for the
month of September (similar case to picture below.)
Please bring one or more painted items that you
would like to include in the display to the August
Meeting. To prevent damage, please wrap your
item(s) in a towel or pillow case with your name at-
tached. We will be featuring holiday themes, as well
as general décor. Tall items will not fit.
Thank you!!! Let’s display our beautiful art!!!
Glass Painting Tips
Glass painted items are popu-
lar and many ideas may be
found on social media such as
Etsy or Pinterest. Glass items
to paint are available at thrift
stores or dollar stores.
Clean glass thoroughly. Wash in soap and water and dry.
Then wipe the surface with a paper towel dampened with
alcohol.
Use a good quality glass paint, such as Folk Art Enamel or
DecoArt Glass Paint or Enamels. Keep your brushes out
of water. Free hand your design or put a pattern inside or
under the glass. It may require more than one coat of
paint.
Once painted, air dry for 24 hours. Then heat set by plac-
ing item in cold oven, turning it to 325 degrees for 45 min-
utes. Let item cool in oven completely before removing.
Always hand wash glass painted items. Never let food
come in contact with the painted area.

Create.

Bazaar Co-Chairs: Becky and Carolyn
All Board positions will end in December. An en-
tirely new Board will be necessary. We are featur-
ing brief job descriptions of the positions in each
newsletter..be thinking if you or someone you
know could fill the jobs!
Treasurer’s Duties: Generally, the treasure keeps track of
chapter funds by making deposits, writing checks as re-
quested and balancing the bank statements. All of this in-
formation is keyed into computer worksheets which gener-
ate the financial statements. The worksheets are set up on a
thumb drive so it is easy to set up and pass on the activity.
The treasurer is also responsible for working with the board
to prepare the yearly budget and presenting it at a chapter
meeting. Because the budgets are based on last year’s ac-
tivities and any known activity for the coming year, this is
usually an easy task. At year end, there are a couple of re-
ports that need to be submitted to National. The forms and
reports are simple to complete. One last task it to coordi-
nate the audit, which means having someone not on the
board take a look at the activity and make sure things are
current and the reported activity agrees to the bank state-
ment.
This is an easy position because there are several people
willing to help if you need them. More than one person can
sign checks and can collect funds if you are not able to at-
tend a meeting. If you have worked with spreadsheets and
some numbers, this job does not take as many hours as
some of the other jobs. If you are interested, please give me
a call ...I will be here to help along the way too. Terry

Membership Secretary: Responds to all membership in-
quiries. Collects and maintains membership dues and infor-
mation. Submits all member ID’s to National to ensure
eligibility. Compiles annual membership directory and sub-
mits to Melinda for the website. Makes sure name tags are
made for each member and brought to each meeting. Intro-
duces new members at chapter meetings.
Newsletter Editor: Compiles and edits the chapter news-
letter 6 times per year using Microsoft Publisher application
Publisher is an easy program to learn and includes many
graphics and format techniques. Editor submits finished
newsletter to the President for approval. Approved copies
are sent to the Chapter via e-mail, to Melinda for the web-
site and to National.
The Hideaway, Sept 9, 10 & 11
Black Forest Girls just wanna have fun, right? Well, if that’s the case – come to RETREAT! The chapter retreat will again be at the Hideaway in Black Forest, a lovely site for a wonderful week-end get-away. We’ll paint, laugh, eat, laugh, create, laugh, relax – did I mention we’ll laugh? The projects this year are great ones as usual – Becca has a unique multi-media palette for us to complete as an all-day project for Saturday and there are smaller fun projects lined up for Friday night and Sunday morning. Plan to spend a great relaxing time in a beautiful setting. Fee for this year is $190. Sign-up sheets will be at the chapter picnic on July 23
rd and also at the Au-
gust meeting – but there are quite a few members signed up already so be sure to secure your spot! If you can’t make the meeting dates or picnic, please contact Julie Becker at :[email protected] for more information. You really don’t want to miss this.
