FEBRUARY 12, 2017 TIGER TIDBITS Congratulations to Brookside students and staff on being named a Kindness Certified School! I am proud not only of the way that our school community displays small so many acts of kindness each and every day, but also the way our students wholeheartedly embraced last month’s Great Kindness Challenge. Led by our mighty Student Council, Brookside Elementary School’s efforts will now extend well beyond the boundaries of Oak Park, all the way to a school in the Asian country of Pakistan, where we will send our collected funds and best wishes. Our students’ wish for them is PEACE and KINDNESS. I was honored to join Kim Annino and Cindy Stephens in sharing some of Brookside’s outstanding instructional practices with other Ventura County educators on February 1st. These wonderful Brookside teachers did a phenomenal job of representing our school and the literacy practices that are preparing our students to be successful readers and writers for years to come. I was proud to stand with Mrs. Annino and Mrs. Stephens as presenters at the Gold Ribbon Schools Showcase and I thank them for a phenomenal presentation! We are thrilled to be a California Gold Ribbon School! Thank you to our library specialist, Mrs. Shaver, for hosting our students last week during her engaging Book Tasting event. While our library was temporarily transformed into a Book “Cafe,” students had the opportunity to “taste” a variety of genres and topics and record their observations. We appreciate all that Mrs. Shaver does to expose our children to the exciting world of books and to instill in them a love for reading. FROM PRINCIPAL AHL

Congratulations to Brookside students and staff on being named a Kindness Certified School!

Stephens as presenters at the

Gold Ribbon Schools Showcase and I thank them for a phenomenal presentation!
