 Ageing Infrastructure

Sharp increase in traffic due to rail-oriented policies and ROS investments

Increasing track use and freight traffic is causing track and ballast deterioration

Network delays are increasingly unacceptable for operators (reputation, competition)

More equipment on track to manage high density traffic increases risk of disruption

High density traffic also reduces the available time for maintenance (3 maintenance hours / day)

Profitability of ROS operators is hard pressed and track access charges are under a lot of scrutiny

New signaling technologies are too advanced for infrastructure managers to understand internally

Increasing traffic is pressuring managers to increase

infrastructure availability and reduce operating costs

11

Current trends in mature markets

Increase infrastructure availability

Shift from calendar based maintenance to condition based maintenance

 Avoid disruption of operations

Need better decision support tools to maintain signaling and network ops

Reduce maintenance & operating costs

 Increase transparency on maintenance costs

Move to more modern technologies (software and hardware) from specialized companies to drive down maintenance costs

Increasingly outsource track activities to private contractors for efficiency and costs purposes

Main requirements for IMs

Infrastructure managers are not all the same in how they

view their core business, which drives different scope

12

Fully integrated

Owner is also managing infrastructure and completes all maintenance tasks

Legacy mainline networks (e.g. MOR, Indian Railways)

 Motivation: job creation, growth

Partially integrated

Completes only part of the maintenance tasks and outsources the rest

Mainline and legacy mass transit networks (e.g. DB Netz, ADIF)

 Motivation: efficiency targets

Separated

Totally separated, the owner is a pure asset manager, maintenance is mainly outsourced

Greenfield (e.g. Etihad) and newer mass transit networks (e.g. Calgary LRV)

 Motivation: cost, competency

To improve maintenance efficiency and reduce costs

Infrastructure Managers move towards predictive maintenance

We will discuss how Bombardier’s solution impacts all three cases of maintenance

And how we facilitate the move towards a Predictive Maintenance setting

Preventive maintenance is conducted to keep equipment working and/or extend the life of the equipment.Planned- and Condition based Maintenance shall preserve and restore equipment reliability by replacing worn components before they actually fail. Systematic inspection, detection and correction of failures before they occur. Based on counted events, you will optimize your planned maintenance activities.

Predictive Maintenance determines the condition of in-service equipment in order to predict when maintenance should be performed. Performance data analysis enables planning of what tasks to do when and where, minimizing maintenance resources. Preventing unplanned stops and the approach offers cost saving and higher availability.

Corrective maintenance (sometimes called “repair”) is conducted to get equipment working again after failure has occurred, to be restored to an operational condition for in-service operations.

Bombardier’s Infrastructure Management Solution has a

modular and flexible structure

16

In the core of our infrastructure management solution lies the MDC(Maintenance and Diagnostics Center)

MDC connects to, collects and displays diagnostics & performance data from Bombardier products & systems

MDC also can integrate with 3rd party systems and sensors

MDC’s capabilities are surrounded by our expertise and know-how of railway signaling and services allowing us to maintain your infrastructure for you

What is MDC?

MDC is a Bombardier developed product, lies at the core of our offering

It has the capability to collect, display and analyze diagnostic and performance data from the connected objects

Its open architecture allows us to integrate with any object with a diagnostic output

Built-in analysis function enables decision making support and predictive maintenance

Integrated asset management functionality block enables maintenance scheduling and spare part monitoring capabilities

Mobile interface allows real time information access for maintenance crews

17

Each monitored functionality block must drive value for

the infrastructure manager

 Asset management

 Planning to support OAM plan

Historic tracking, trending and statistical analysis

 Resource and inventory management

Cost management and estimated maintenance costs

Management of equipment condition, location and history

 Preventive maintenance programs

 Consumable item planning

Links to documentation (safety procedures, maintenance and design plans)

 Maintenance personnel qualification information

18

Support decisions

 Data captured

– Alarms

– Events

– Energy consumed

– …

 Inputs from various suppliers

– Signalling and non-signallingelectrical equipment (interlocking, RBC, points, hot box, scales, flat wheel, …)

– Core network infrastructure (rail, bridges, catenary, power, buildings,…)

– Auxiliary non-signallingsystems (PIS/PAS, CCTV, ticketing, …)
