We welcome Fr. Joshua Allen, a priest of the Archdiocese of Atlanta, here to present a message about the Fellowship of Catholic University Stu-dents (FOCUS). Today we take a break from Ordinary Time in observance of the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. This is the titular feast of El Salvador where it is celebrated as “El Salvador del Mundo”. Many of our St. Serra parishioners hail from El Sal-vador. The Diocese of Cleveland, in response to a request to share vocations made by Saint Pope John XXIII, has had a presence there for years. In fact, an Ursuline Sister and a lay woman missioner from Cleveland were martyred in hatred of the faith by government forces. So this feast of the Church has special significance to many of us here in our parish. Jesus and his closest apostles are enroute to Jerusalem when they have this experience on Mount Tabor. It is one of the Theophanies recorded in the Gospels, the showing of the divinity of Jesus. The Church has always felt that this experience of the Lord’s glory was to prepare the apostles for the hor-ror of his passion and crucifixion. In fact, you’ll hear similar words in the Preface of today’s Mass. Our heavenly Father gives this consolation to the apostles to help them through the experience of des-olation surrounding the passion and death of Jesus. Next weekend we will have tours of Our Lady’s Chapel after the 5:00 PM Saturday Mass and all the Sunday Masses. After the 5:00 we will be able to purchase Hispanic food prepared by Jesús, Fuente de Misericordia. Tomorrow after Masses the prayer group Mizión Una will be serving BBQ ribs and chicken dinners. Both meals are eat-in or take-out, and the proceeds go to the construction fund. Please support the generous efforts of these parishioners. The special Mass at 4:00 PM August 15th for the blessing of the chapel is by invitation only. It will be livestreamed courtesy of the Archdiocesan Communication’s Department. You may access it from home or gather in the hall. About 5:15 we will be able to begin our refreshments in St. Serra Hall. The whole parish is invited to this gathering. After the 7:30 PM Mass of the Assumption, the Blessed Sacrament will be transferred to the new tabernacle in Our Lady’s Chapel. The 7:30 Mass is open to all. (Assumption Holy Day Masses will also be celebrat-ed as every Holy Day of Obligation: 7:00 AM, 12:00 Noon and 7:30 PM. The regularly scheduled May-flower Gardens Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM.)

MISSION BELL PRESCHOOL As we prepare to begin our 2017-18 school year, MBPS would like to offer our families some tips to help with a very real topic, Separa-tion Anxiety, Part II. Connect with old friends. Make a play date with a friend from last year. Allow your child to pick a play location. Remind your child that he is an expert at mastering new places. Say something like, “Remember how afraid you were of the zoo? Now you love it!” Let her take a small transitional object to school. Maybe a note from you, a stuffed animal or a family picture! She may leave it in her cubby and go to it when she feels the need! Most of all, shake, shake, shake off the guilt. Your child will stop crying a lot sooner than you think. This is totally true! Introduce your child to the school and new teachers before the first day. Take pictures of the front of the building, the teachers’ faces and the new cubby, and show him a few times before school starts. You can accomplish this by attending the important dates listed below! Plan to attend our Parent Orientations! Allow the MBPS staff to put your heart and mind at ease by getting to know us. Come hear how other families made the transition with our help and guidance! Parent Orientation: Wednesday. Aug. 16 (Pre-K Class) You may attend ei-ther session: 10am - 12pm or 6pm - 8 pm Thursday, Aug. 17 (Preschool Class) You may attend either session 10am - 12pm or 6pm - 8pm (We love your little one, but we thank you in advance for making childcare arrangements, lot’s of information will be given to Parents only. We want your undivided attention! We look forward to seeing you!) 1st Day of School (Pre-K Class) Monday, Aug. 28 (Preschool Class) Tuesday, Aug. 29

The training is mandatory for all paid staff and volunteers having contact or po-tential contact with children in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The next training in English will be Satur-day, August 12th in Room 5 from 10:00pm to 1:00pm. There is no cost for the training. Time to Celebrate!

August 15th, the Solemnity of the As-sumption of the BVM, is the 30th anniversary of the founding of our parish! Parish Masses are 7:00 AM, 12 Noon and 7:30 PM. We will be blessing our third building on this date at a spe-cial 4:00 PM Mass, by invita-tion! The altar must be con-secrated with chrism before it can be used, and this must happen within Mass. Invited guests will join Bishop Wilkerson in the chapel. The ceremony will be live-streamed into the parish hall so many more can watch. (I imagine you can watch from home too.) All are invited to gath-er in St. Serra Hall for food and beverage between about 5:30 and 7:00 PM on August 15th. Those already in the hall for the livestreaming will stay there as we set out the food. We need to celebrate this great event! Hopeful-ly, we will have pictures of the construction pro-cess to project . After the 7:30 evening Mass, the Blessed Sacrament will be transferred to the new chapel. Bishop Wilkerson will bless the tabernacle. Hopefully the tech folks will be able to stay for the whole thing and livestream all this too. August 12th and 13th, after the Sun-day Masses, we will have tours of Our Lady’s Chapel for those who would like to get a look-see. It is very lovely and will be a prayerful place with the Blessed Sacrament fully visible in the sanctuary. (We will need to re-learn genu-flection upon entering and before leaving as well as maintaining reverential silence in the chapel.)
