Dear Parents

This is an everyday routine which takes place every morning.

We will gather together in the classroom (sitting in a big circle) and

start off with our Good Morning songs in English and Chinese.

And taking time to pray, especially for our friends who are absent

We will discuss the date and day concept, weather and relevant issues

such as dental hygiene, good toileting habits, behavioural issues etc.

and current issues such as the haze situation, dengue, etc.

And we love to sing our praise action songs in English and Chinese.

These daily practises do help when it’s time to prepare for concert!

Circle time is not only fun but an important feature in our curriculum

as the children have the opportunity to develop physically (e.g. moving different body parts),

socially and emotionally (e.g. taking turns, developing confidence as they ask questions or share their

thoughts), cognitively (e.g. using subtraction to find out how many children are present in school, develop their

attention span) and improve their oral communication skills.

Just like the cooking process, there were different steps to get that “perfect” pizza!

Spreading glue to stick the red coloured paper (i.e. tomato base)

And the most important step… putting the toppings – lot of cheese, olives, mushrooms and capsicums!

It was interesting to see how some would line the Eiffel Tower with straws

while some would fill the Eiffel Tower with straws instead.

Hence, each construction of the Eiffel Tower is a very special one!

Mass Activity

The children got into groups and performed some static balance exercises together!

This was followed by forming a longgggggggggg Bethany Kindy bridge.

Where the first pair would break the bridge, and go through to the other end

to join hands with each other again.

It was great seeing how the children are now able to facilitate the continuation of the bridge

with lesser prompting from the teachers!

Two “X”s were marked to encourage the Love children to initiate their own turn taking.

They made a dash towards the chairs in front of them..

And performed donkey kicks!

(Lifting their feet off the ground by transferring their weight onto their hands.)

Thereafter, they took turns to ride a scooter.

Children don’t necessary know how to ride when presented with one.

Exposure is needed and we are thankful to have a couple of scooters

(some given by our Alumni) for our children’s free play 😊

This game requires the children to not just know their friends’ names

But to also be very quick in giving a friend’s name when their names are called!

How they have learnt from previous pizza making lessons … when they are putting on the toppings!

We don’t say, “ I don’t like onions and I don’t want to put it on my pizza!” …

Because .. we are making the pizzas for everyone and

not just for ourselves and we will learn to eat everything

And when it’s all nicely topped up, the pizzas go into the baking tray; into the big oven in the kitchen

And the little Love children went into the kitchen to have a peek

And here comes LaoShi …. With our trays of freshly made pizza ,,,, ummm … we love the AROMA !!!!!

Music element: Volume

The Love children were given disposable plates and tongue depressors to act as drums.

They learnt to differentiate volume through the playing of their “drums” - exerting more force when hitting

them to make it sound louder.

Joy & Peace

Music element: Rhythm

This week Joy and Peace children were introduced to “ta” and “titi” and tried coming up with their own rhythm

using “ta” and “titi”. Eg. Ta titi ta ta

They were later given “drums” – disposable plates and tongue depressors, to follow the different rhythms

played in Snow Day (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2V9dPe5WXgs).

To extend their creativity, they were asked to replace “ta” and “titi” with other names and create rhythms with

the new names given.

Some of the suggestions they gave: Pen-Pencil, Apple-Pear, Tissue-Box…
