2020 Term 4 Week 3

Dear Parents

Learning begins when the children arrive @ Kindy before 8.30 am.

Due to the Covid-19 safety measures, we have segmented our outdoor play areas into 4 zones and

the children play only with their friends from the same class.

Every morning, the children check the signboards to find out where

their play zones are.

These outdoor times are good opportunities for the children

to engage in cooperative play, learning to take turns, share and problem solve.

Also a good way to develop their social and communication skills.


With the open spaces available, the children are able to pick up new skills

e.g. cycle, scooter, play a game of catch, toss balls, etc.

Do have your children come in early.

Let them have fun and the opportunity to develop holistically.

We introduced the story of “Rapunzel” to the children.

The Love 1 were tasked to use the scissors to cut along the printed straight lines.

Left to right:

Adriti showed the clothes that her Elsa doll wore. She has a cape and boots.

Jonathan demonstrated how to use his blue and green dump truck.

He said “you tip the blue part and all the rubbish comes out through the hole at the back.”

Maia explained how she made a shaker by sticking a plastic egg on top of a chopstick.

She filled the egg with some green beans.

Yaswitha pressed the button to make her toucan flap its wings.

Sarah brought a furry white bear and one of the things she did was to spread out its arms and said “Armpits!”.

Zechariah flipped the “Toy Story 2” book to his favourite page where many of the characters could be found.

He named them all and said that Buzz Lightyear was his favourite.

Kaelyn had two eagle plushies. One belongs to her while the other belongs to her brother.

She could not remember where she got them from but there was a Bird Park label on the eagles.

Receiving a bounce pass from the teacher and returning it.

Learning to pass the ball forwards and downwards to the ground between them and the teacher.

Joy & Peace

Hula hoops were placed in groups on the ground with one child standing behind each hula hoop.

The children were challenged to pass the ball to their friend by:

1. Calling out their name

2. Bouncing the ball into their friend’s hoop for them to catch the ball


In a push-up position, the task was to throw the ribbons in their hoop into their friend’s hula hoop.

Those with the most hoops in each group would then

balance on one feet for 5 seconds while holding a funny pose.


Peace

Placing their hula hoops in a big circle,

the Peace children then jumped over the hoop at the count of three.

Reminders were given to look forward when jumping.


Aesthetics (Cooking)

New experience for all – tried our hands at vegetable food art

Our attempts to create Rapunzel’s long tresses ….

What a pretty sight!

The children were visibly amused …

Rice ball for the face; black sesame seeds/a little veg for the facial features;

Strings of cucumber, carrots and omelette for the hair!

What we like about these cooking sessions besides the hands-on experiences

is that it arouses and provokes their curiosity with their “hows and whys” …

E.g. “How do you get the long strings of carrots and cucumber and omelette?”

“How to make the face with the rice?”

What was it that Teacher Ainslie was showing the children?

The children were waiting in anticipation to find out what it was!

This will be something they’ll need during their practices.

The children have begun to realise that they will have to do a lot

more than just singing for their concert! 😊
