29th June 2018 Persistence Confidence Getting Along Organisation Resilience From the Assistant Principal Staff news On Friday 29th June, we sadly say good bye to Miss Hughes. Miss Hughes joined us 12 months ago and slotted straight in to be a committed and fantastic classroom teacher at Bonbeach PS. Miss Hughes will be moving to the warmer climate of Brisbane where her fiancé, Rob, has been appointed to a dreamjob. I know that you will join me in wishing Miss Hughes all the best for her future endeavours. The search for a replacement for Miss Hughes has begun and you will be informed as soon as possible. School Council The final School Council meeting for the term happened on Wednesday evening. Topics discussed included: Policies ratified: Homework, SunSmart and Bonbeach officialFacebook Page Code of Conduct; FarmersMarket manager position: Interviews occurring soon; Building update: a preferred architect has been submitted to the VSBA. More information will be forwarded as we move through the process; and P&F: The Colourthon was a great success. The disco went well, feedback from this event has been submitted and will be considered for future events. The FathersDay stall is ready to go with a date for it to be confirmed. Coming up soon to support the Aerobics team are a number of fundraising events which include a Hotdog lunch and a raffle. Kiss and Go Zone The topic with the most discussion at School Council was the possible introduction of a Kiss and Gozone. This has come about due to a number of dangerous incidents that have almost occurred - some from our parents and some from the community. These have included speeding, parking over residents' driveways, parking on the opposite side of the road and allowing children to cross without looking, double parking etc. Kingston Council has completed an initial inspection and proposed 2 spots - one outside the gate on Coast Banksia Drive (near the BER) and one on Cirrus Street in front of the garden. After much to-ing and fro-ing, school council has endorsed all car spots in front of the garden. This means that once the signposts go up, there is the potential to be fined by local by-laws officers if parking for more than 2 minutes occurs between the nominated hours on school days. The parking spots along Cirrus Street parallel to the hall will be unaffected.

From the Assistant Principal

Staff news On Friday 29th June, we sadly say good bye to Miss Hughes. Miss Hughes joined us 12 months ago and slotted straight in to be a committed and fantastic classroom teacher at Bonbeach PS. Miss Hughes will be moving to the warmer climate of Brisbane where her fiancé, Rob, has been appointed to a ‘dream’ job. I know that you will join me in wishing Miss Hughes all the best for her future endeavours. The search for a replacement for Miss Hughes has begun and you will be informed as soon as possible. School Council The final School Council meeting for the term happened on Wednesday evening. Topics discussed included: Policies ratified: Homework, SunSmar t and Bonbeach ‘official’ Facebook Page Code of Conduct; Farmers’ Market manager position: Interviews occur r ing soon; Building update: a preferred architect has been submitted to the VSBA. More information will be forwarded as we move through the process; and P&F: The Colourthon was a great success. The disco went well, feedback from this event has been submitted and will be considered for future events. The Fathers’ Day stall is ready to go with a date for it to be confirmed. Coming up soon to suppor t the Aerobics team are a number of fundraising events which include a Hotdog lunch and a raffle. Kiss and Go Zone The topic with the most discussion at School Council was the possible introduction of a ‘Kiss and Go’ zone. Reports and Parent Teacher Interviews This is the first time we have used Compass for reports. As with any new system, there have been some ‘hiccups’. Firstly, we could not publish the reports until Monday due to a formatting error and then, when published, it was taking some parents much too long to download. Your concerns have been noted and have been forwarded to Compass.

Farmers’ Market

Our next Farmers’ Market is on Sunday July 8 - in the middle of the holidays. If you have a couple of spare hours, please contact Narelle Legg as soon as possible on 0418414448, or send an email [email protected]

Colourthon The Colourthon held last Friday was a huge success! The P&F did an amazing job organising this event, and they even managed to sort out some great weather for us! Thank you to all who were involved in helping out on the day, although I think some parents ended up with more colour on them than some of the students!

Holidays The holidays are upon us and I hope you have a safe, particularly if you are on the roads, and enjoyable break. Your children have worked hard this term and are now ready for sleep ins (although I know that there will be more than one of you who will have a child who gets up earlier in the holidays than during the school term!)

Some of the amazing things that have happened this term have been: Farmers’ Markets, Aerobics competitions, Grade 6 ANZAC excursion to the Shrine, our ANZAC Day commemoration, School Photos, House and District Cross Country, 2 working bees, ICAS tests, Mothers’ Day Breakfast, Junior Mayor, Interschool Sport, Mark Dreyfuss presenting leadership certificates, NAPLAN, P-2 Swimming, Attitudes to School Survey, Open Night, Author—Scott Norton visit, Disco, Colourthon, Parent teacher Interviews…. not to mention the meticulous planning and thought by the staff that goes into each lesson, each day.

The staff have worked tirelessly to support your children, and I know that they are going to enjoy a few days off before preparations begin for the second half of the year.

See you all on Monday 16th July at 9am!

Regards,

Patrick Walsh

Thank you to Berties Butchers, Parkdale for donating all the sausages for our Aerobics Fundraising BBQ held Saturday 23 June. Sausages were enjoyed by all and we really appreciate their kind generosity for supporting our school Aerobics team. Also a big thank you to Baker’s Delight Chelsea for donating the bread.
