The Community Foundation of Morgan County meets national standards for community foundations. We achieved this ranking by demonstrating excellence in critical areas, such as, client service, fiscal accountability, grantmaking, and community leadership.

Continued support from the community and donors allowed The Community Foundation of Morgan County to have a terrific year in 2013. The generosity the the people of Morgan County is shown through the growth of

the Foundation each and every year. The CFMC has the privilege of awarding scholarships to individuals throughout the county to help with their educational advancement. In 2013, we awarded the largest amount yet, totaling over $115,000. This does not include the two scholarships from the Lilly Endowment, that provide full-

tuition for a four year undergraduate education. The Foundation also was able to award Matching and Arts grants totaling $28,872 for the year. These scholarships and grants would not be possible without the support of our donors. We thank you for making these possible. The Community Foundation appreciates being able to partner with the Kendrick Foundation by serving as their staff and helping them fulfill their mission to enhance the quality of life for current and future generations of Morgan County. The CFMC helped the Kendrick Foundation distribute 49 grants and 42 scholarships totaling more than $1.3 million in 2013.

While it is easy to define success in numbers, such as how many donations we’ve received or how many funds we’ve opened this year, I prefer to measure our progress in less technical terms.

Especially meaningful to us is how many people we are helping in their lives.

The true measure of the community foundation’s wor th and work is in the people who are moving along in their lives because of a scholarship we’ve awarded, or a grant we gave, or a group we have aided through

our fiscal sponsorship services. These are not things we take for granted.

We also grow by helping generous donors of funds and time, who help their fellow citizens here in Morgan County by sharing what they can spare with those less for tunate.

Personally, I am grateful for everyone who works with us to do our work including our board and committees, all of whom work to help others with no compensation. The CFMC staff is small, numbering only five full-time people. This is a group of highly educated, caring, and efficient team players who really do very well handling the work of the Community Foundation of Morgan

County, and also the Kendrick Foundation.

We work hard but having a meaningful mission makes everything worthwhile and we thank everyone who helps us help others.

Memorial Gifts Cory Lane passed away on May 21, 2013 at the age of sixteen after battling Crohn's Disease (ds. 2009) and osteosarcoma (ds. 2011), a type of bone cancer. As a Riley Kid Cory had endless opportunities to inspire others. Cory had an unforgettable and infectious smile that could light up a room. Always looking to touch others, Cory made several public service announcements with former Colts coach Tony Dungy as well as current coach, Chuck Pagano. In his memory the Cory Lane Memorial Scholarship Fund was created to celebrate the life of a young man who left.

The Millennium Society is a new way for regular supporters of the CFMC to demonstrate leadership by making annual commitments to support the operations of their growing community foundation. Grants Provide Endless Possibilities In 2013, the Community Foundation of Morgan County

awarded $28,872 in matching and arts grants to Morgan County nonprofit organizations.

Each fall, the CFMC offers matching grants and arts grants. Matching grants require that the grant applicant must raise an amount at least equal to what they ask for on the application. Arts grants require no matching funds. Grants are provided through the CFMC’s Common Wealth fund.

Lilly Endowment Community Scholars & Finalists The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship

program offers two full-tuition scholarships for Morgan County residents with a diploma from a regionally accredited Indiana High School and who will be first-time college students. These scholarships must be used to pursue baccalaureate degrees at any accredited public or private Indiana college or university.

In 2013, Jessica McDaniel and Ryan Crafts were chosen as the Lilly Endowment Community Scholars. Finalists received a CFMC scholarship.

Their audit report stated that they were not aware of any material modifications that should be made to the accompanying financial statements in order for them to be in conformity with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles.

The Community Foundation of Morgan County, Inc. was founded on January 5, 2000, with the merging of the Mooresville Community Foundation and the Morgan County Community Foundation.

Each year the Community Foundation of Morgan County distributes thousands of dollars in grants and scholarships to local non-profit organizations and to students.

We also collaborate with other nonprofit organizations in the community on major initiatives which can improve our community.

Our first office was in the Academy Building in Mooresville, on the campus of Newby Memorial Elementary School. In 2011, we opened a new main office on the square in Martinsville. Both offices continue to serve Morgan County.
