If Jesus Came To Your House Today, Would You Be All That You Can Be?

If Jesus came to your house to spend a day or two, if He came unexpectedly, I wonder what you’d do. Oh, I know you’d give your nicest room to such an honored guest and all the food you’d serve Him would be the very best. You would keep assuring Him that you are glad to have Him there, that serving Him in your home is a joy beyond compare.

But when you saw Him coming would you meet Him at the door with arms outstretched in welcome to your heavenly visitor? Or would you have to change your clothes before you let Him in, or hide some magazines and put the Bible where they’d been? Would you turn off the TV and hope He hadn’t heard, and wish you hadn’t uttered that last, loud, hasty word? Would you hide your worldly music and put some hymn book out? Could you let Jesus walk right in, or would you rush about?

And I wonder if the Savior spent a day or two with you, would you go right on doing the things you always do? Would you go right on saying the things you always say? Would life for you continue as it does from day to day? Would your family conversation keep its usual pace and would you find it hard each meal to say a table grace? Would you sing the songs you always sing and read the books you read, and let Him know the things on which your mind and spirit feed?

Would you take Jesus with you everywhere you’d planned to go, or would you maybe change your plans for just a day or so? Would you be glad to have Him meet your very closest friends, or would you hope they stay away until His visit ends? Would you be glad to have Him stay forever on and on, or would you sigh with great relief when He at last was gone?

It might be interesting to know the things that you would do if Jesus came in person to spend some time with you. If Jesus came to your house today, would you be all that you can be?

MEN OF ST. JAMES

The “Men of St. James” come together for prayer and discussion to make what the Pope is calling for a reality here at St. James Church. It is also a place to re-kindle the fire that may have grown dim or just to meet other men who are also trying to be faithful Catholic men. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Saturday’s at 7:00AM in the Carriage House. Come. “Open the door.” They called the church together and reported what God had done with them and how he had opened the door of faith..." (Acts 14:27)

SEPARATED AND DIVORCED MINISTRY

The Separated and Divorced Ministry of St. James and Our Lady of the Lake/Mount Carmel is a support group for those who have experienced loss or rejection through separation or divorce. ST. JAMES PRAYER GROUP

The St. James Prayer Group meets every Thursday at 7:30pm in the Chapel of Life. Come join us for an evening of praise and worship through song, a quiet time of scripture reading and sharing how God is working in our lives, followed by intercessory prayer, for the intentions of our Pope Francis and all our clergy, for our parish, our own intentions and for those who have asked us to pray. The Prayer Group is open to all parishioners, both young and old. Please join us for a peaceful evening away from the busyness of the day to be with Our Lord.

ST. SEBASTIAN’S TERRACE AND COLUMBARIUM

182 purchased - 270 Niches still available

Our Terrace and Columbarium are open. We have already celebrated Mass at the new Altar and have 89 niches engraved and interred. The price of a niche is $2,500, which gives you the right to inter the cremains of two people. If you have been thinking of purchasing a niche, and would like to schedule an appointment, please contact Mrs. Maureen Larkin at 845-225-2079 at Ext. 105, on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. For those of you not familiar with a Columbarium, it is a Latin word that describes a collection of niches to house urns containing cremated human remains. Usually inscribed with the person’s name and dates of birth and death, columbaria are constructed to serve as permanent resting places for our loved ones in a ‘churchyard’ or landscaped terrace. May the Lord who has blessed this project now be a final resting place for many of our loved ones.

GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEDICATION OF

Our Lady of the Lake/Mt. Carmel. We will update the bulletin once each project is complete.

Please call Maureen Larkin in the Parish office 225-2079 x 105 for additional information.

Letter from St. James Confirmation Candidates Each Confirmation Candidate was asked to write a personal letter indicating their desire to be confirmed. Please pray for these young people as they prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation. My name is Heather Stallings. I’m thirteen years old, and I’ve been going to St. James the Apostle School since first grade. I have always excelled academically, and I love learning. In school, I am in math honors, and I like to push myself to achieve high grades. It is always a goal of mine to be successful. I take dance classes twice per week to help improve my physical and mental well-being, and I enjoy listening to punk-rock music. My parents divorced when I was really young, and I see my dad a few times a year and my mom every day. My grandpa, my mom, and I all live together, and we are all really close. One of my best friends is a sweet girl named Kellie. We hang out with each other on weekends and we are almost always talking to each other outside of school. I am a strong believer in the Roman- Catholic religion and I like to take part in mass and make my voice heard. Being a Catholic is important to me in more than one way. Being Catholic is important to me in many standards. I feel that taking part in mass is important, as well as spreading the good news to those around me. By participating in mass, we can analyze the Sacred Scripture, and learn the morals that are taught to us through it. Through learning and believing, we can spread the words and truths of our faith and make it the center of our lives, therefore having our entire daily routine branch from it. One person, who has made an impression on me as being a good Catholic, is one of my old teachers, Mr. Mignanelli. He was a really good religion teacher, and he taught us how to analyze scripture and how we can live it in our lives. He always stressed the fact that every experience we have, every person we meet, exists to show us that God is forever present in our lives and is always with us. He is an example to me because he never let other people influence his beliefs and he also cared about others. Catholicism provides a sound structure for all my beliefs to be based upon. A question that I have about the Catholic faith is whether or not Purgatory actually exists. In the New Testament, Jesus was resurrected after three days. According to scripture, he was in hell for those three days. This shows that purgatory exists because Jesus waited three days before ascending into heaven. But there is also evidence that Purgatory does not exist. When Jesus is up on the cross, he tells that the good thief, that today he would be in paradise with him. If Jesus meant today, then that means that there is no purgatory because Jesus didn’t tell the thief that he would have to wait. I go to church, and I am an altar server. I enjoy participating in mass and letting others know what I believe in. I know that while and after the process of being

confirmed, that I can attend mass regularly and participate more frequently. I feel that I am ready to receive the sacrament of confirmation because I believe that it will bring me closer to God. By choosing to receive confirmation, it shows that I am making the choice to become a member of my church this time, not my parents. It will help me become a leader and a good example to the people around me, and they can learn from examples that I set. By receiving confirmation, I know that it will help me grow spiritually. Being a Catholic is important to me because it teaches me many morals and helps us learn and grow. There are many people who have helped me grow in my faith, including teachers, priests, and adults around me. They have helped guide me to make the right choices and understand difficult things. I want to receive confirmation because it shows that I want to continue my faith, and this time, I’m making the right choice rather than my parents.

Stress Management

Stress is a normal physical and psychological

reaction to the challenges of daily life. The stress response or “fight or flight” response is not only triggered when we perceive threat of personal injury, but also as a result of the demands of family, care giving, work, and illness. Stress triggers are different for everyone.

Symptoms of stress include (but are not limited to): headache, muscle pain and tension, chest pain, fatigue, stomach upset, sleep disturbances, decrease in motivation and focus, irritability or anger, sadness or depression, social withdrawal, alcohol or drug abuse. Stress that is left unmanaged can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and diabetes.

If we can identify the triggers that cause the stress to increase in our life, perhaps we can also learn to manage the stress. Management of stress can lead to a more healthy lifestyle and life. The first step in stress management is identifying your personal stress triggers. In addition to the above mentioned items, happy occasions such as planning a wedding or starting a new job may also be the cause of stress. Once you have identified the triggers, start to consider ways that might help you deal with them. It can be as simple as getting more sleep, adding some exercise, yoga, Tai Chi to your daily routine, or just turning off the TV if you find the news distressing.

However, there may be times in your life when additional help is necessary. This help may be in the form of family and friends, but it could also be in the form of professional help. If you find yourself in need of more help than family and friends can provide, speak to your physician and obtain a referral to the appropriate health care professional for diagnosis and treatment.

With more than 55 million pre-born deaths of children in America, come with thousands of like-minded people and show our legislators the evil of Roe V Wade. Be the voice of the innocents! Transportation is available from St. Augustine’s Parish in Ossining. The Marchers will leave on the bus at 6:00AM and return by 10:00PM that evening. The cost for transportation is $55 per seat. To reserve your seat or to sponsor a Marcher, please text or call John Mark at 914-224-7192.

Thank you from Emmanuel House International

As I sit here in the glow of the winter holidays, thinking about this past year, my mind immediately goes to all of you who helped us and our Moms and Moms-to-Be and their Babies and Families. I especially think of all of our generous financial donors, volunteers helping with everything from folding clothes to admin assistance and countless others who have given time or resources to help keep Emmanuel House International open and able to serve over 300 families in need. In the past year, we have seen countless Moms-to-Be and Moms and Dads receive much-needed support whether in the form of baby and family supplies, gift cards and other resource assistance.

As this year comes to a close, we are forever thankful for all we have received and hope to continue receiving in order to best serve Emmanuel House's growing Family of Families. With the worst of the winter yet to come we know what a great gap there is for all our families in what they can provide and what they need to be able to take care of their Littlest Ones. Be one of Emmanuel House's Angels! So Celebrate the Season while Making a Difference in the lives of our Families in need! Donate $25, $50, $100 or more as an Emmanuel House Angel and give the "Gift of Life" so that our families can receive much needed services including support and referrals, as well as material assistance with emergency baby supplies, food, gas, heat, electric, rent, gently-used clothes and baby items. Please make your life-giving gift now by using our secure online "DonateNow" link -or- by writing a check to "Emmanuel House International" and mailing it to us at PO Box 478, Carmel, NY 10521.

Thank you so much for all your gifts - past, present and future! May God Bless You and Keep You Always for All You Do for His Littlest Ones (Born and Unborn) and Their Moms and Families! Rita O'Brien, Executive Director

Dear Fellow Parishioners, My Name is Anthony Rizzo and I am the Eagle Scout that replaced the playground for the children to use at the St. James School. I am working the Boy Scout Pope Pius XII Catholic Award and I need your help to make a difference this winter. I am conducting a hat and glove drive to be donated to the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal Women’s Shelter in the Bronx. Please donate a NEW women’s or children’s hat or pair of gloves. If you are unable to purchase these items and would like to make a monetary donation there will be a basket in the parish office that you can drop any amount of money, even your loose change. I will take whatever is collected to the store and purchase the hats and gloves to be taken to the shelter. Thank you so much!
