Industrious and enterprising, Dr. M. S. Ramaiah is among Karnataka’s illutrious sons and an engineering contractor of national repute. He founded ‘Gokula Education Foundation’ in 1962 without expecting any kind of assistance from the establishment with an objective of serving the society. M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT) was born under the aegis of this foundation in the same year, creating a landmark in technical education in India.

Through the years MSRIT has imparted quality engineering and education, accessible to thousands from across India and abroad, facing a lack of opportunity to pursue higher education.

Widley acknowledged as a visionary, educationist, industrialist and philanthropist, Dr. M. S. Ramaiah personally ensured that the institution which began with just two disciplines, grew phenomenally over the years. MSRIT now offers Bachelors, Masters and Dectorate programmes in several disciplines and is recognised as one of India’s leading names in technical education. The institution is with state-of-the-art laboratories, well stocked libraries and has highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty. In tune with the noble ambitions and aspirations of Dr. M. S. Ramaiah to keep the institution growing and developing continuously so as to become a ‘Jnana Sagara’, all departments are continuously engaged in implementing approprite procedures to initiate, include and conduct unique programmes keeping in touch with the emerging requirements of the industry.

Vo’ISE’ Tech Series Session – 5

• The ‘VoISE-Tech Series-V’ interactive session was held on 6th February 2016, 10.30 am, at the LHC Seminar Hall II, MSRIT in the presence of Dr. Hari Iyer, Senior VP and Head HR, Sasken, Dr. B. P. Vijaya Kumar, HOD, ISE Department, staff and students.

Dr. Hari Iyer helped us understand the importance of competence and how essential it is for the growth of young minds especially in the software Industry. He began by telling us what the basic work of an Engineer is – to have basic knowledge to solve a problem. He mentioned about the book ‘Future Shock’ written by Alvin Toffler which emphasizes on ‘too much change in too short a period of time’. He brought out the essence of the book by telling us how important change is, the speed at which change is occurring and how we as students and individuals need to adapt to the changes in our environment. He shifted his focus by recapitulating his experience of interviewing students at XLRI, Jamshedpur which is when he realized that the most important factor for competence was the ability to understand anything from its core. This factor proves to be crucial in understanding the fundamentals and principles of Engineering.

He urged the audience to find the hidden passion in each of us which would help us succeed in all our endeavors. He gave us reasons as to why we need to connect with the Industry and advised us to follow ‘Why When How Who If not then what’.

Mr. Desai favored the idea of ‘stepping out of our comfort zone’ to gain practical knowledge which will give us an overall understanding of the industry. He pointed out that the other quality which played a major role was gratitude and we as students must be grateful to all our professors.

The conventional resources of energy still remain the major source of power generation in India. Share of coal and fossil fuel are abundant in the energy mix that heavily contributes to global warming and green house effects. As India has rich renewable sources, it is going a transformation to shift towards using renewable resources to meet economic, social and environmental problems. Judicious utilization of renewable energy resources in India would help India for sustainable development. Understanding the importance of renewable energy resources for sustainable development, and to give a practical exposure about various available sources to the student community and teaching fraternity, The Department of Management Studies, MSRIT has organized a, Two days National Seminar on ‘Sustainable Development in Power Sector through Renewable Energy Resources’ on 25th & 26th February, 2016 sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research.

Papaya fruit s another gift of Mexicans to this world. This exotic fruit, also popular as pawpaw, is packed with numerous health benefiting nutrients. It is one of the favorites of fruit lovers for its nutritional, digestive, and medicinal properties. It probably thought to have originated in the Central Americas.

• The papaya fruit is very low in calories (just 39 calories/100 g) and contains no cholesterol; however, it is a rich source of phyto-nutrients, minerals, and vitamins

• Papayas contain soft, easily digestible flesh with a good amount of soluble dietary fiber that helps to have normal bowel movements; thereby reducing constipation problems.

• Fresh, ripe papaya is one of the fruits with the highest vitamin-C content (provides 61.8 mg or about 103% of DRI, more than that of in oranges, or lemons). Research studies have shown that vitamin C has many important functions like free radicals scavenging, immune booster, and anti-inflammatory actions.

Health Corner -Papaya fruit • ‘A good head and good heart are always a formidable combination. But when you add to that a literate tongue or pen, then you have something very special.’ - Nelson Mandela

• If you Don’t build your dream, someone else will hire you to help them build theirs - Dhirubhai Ambani

• ‘Teach the ignorant as much as you can; society is culpable in not providing a free education for all and it must answer for the night which it produces. If the soul is left in darkness sins will be committed. The guilty one is not he who commits the sin, but he who causes the darkness.’ - Victor Hugo, Les Misérables

• Do you know the difference between education and experience? Education is when you read the fine print; experience is what you get when you don’t. - Pete Seeger
