FROM THE HEAD OF PRIMARY

Infants Athletics Afternoon

The Infants Athletics afternoon will be held this Thursday, as long as the weather is kind and allows the oval to dry out. The afternoon will commence at 12:00 noon with races, followed by a sausage sizzle lunch, then a tabloid of events after lunch.

New England Sings

The Primary Choir will once again be taking part in the New England Sings choral festival this year. This provides a wonderful opportunity for our students to work with children from other schools and to be part of a large choir. Rehearsals will be held throughout this term with the concert being held at the University of New England on Sunday 16 October.

More than the Classroom

This term we have a number of events taking place that will allow children to experience a range of activities outside the classroom. Children will be involved in academic pursuits such as Tournament of Minds, The Da Vinci Decathlon and HRIS debating. There are also the ICAS English and Maths competitions for Years 3 to 6 and the Newcastle Permanent Maths competition for Years 5 and 6. On the sporting side we have the HRIS Athletics carnival, from which, hopefully, some children will progress to CIS.

PSSA Cross Country

Congratulations to Georgia Simm and Lachlan Rasmussen who took part in the PSSA Cross Country last Friday. Although running on a reportedly very wet and muddy track, both did well in their respective events and were wonderful representatives of our school and the CIS Team.

SOUNDS BAROQUE

Performing Hercules

Presented by Musica Viva in Schools

Musica Viva has been inspiring students throughout Australia for over thirty years. More than twenty groups for all genres of music tour to over 1000 schools each year. This year there will be a performance at your child’s school by Sounds Baroque.

If you think you need a tux, binoculars and a grasp of the Italian language to appreciate opera, you haven’t seen Sounds Baroque in action. The perfect introduction to the genre, Hercules is a mini opera that combines a variety of styles to bring the familiar Greek legend to life. Through drama, song and comedy, Sounds Baroque presents the classic morality tale using authentic baroque instruments, rap, rich costuming and modern language. Hercules is bound to captivate and entertain your students with it’s sheer originality of concept and blend of styles. Never before has music education, or opera, been this much fun!

Years 2 - 6 will attend this fantastic performance on Monday 1 August in the Bishop Peter Chiswell Hall from

1:45pm to 2:45pm
