With nearly 700 member schools in South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland, Namibia and Angola, it services more than 160 000 pupils. You might ask – “so what does the ISASA brand do for Cedarwood School?” Firstly the brand is a hallmark of high standards of educational and ethical practice. Quality, Values and Diversity characterise its membership, and the criteria for acceptance into the organisation are extremely rigorous. Secondly, ISASA regularly offers training and workshops for teacher’s professional development, as well as leadership courses for Head’s . I was fortunate enough, in 2007, to complete the LDP (Leadership Development Programme) run by ISASA through Wits Business School and both Dr Kotze and I are members of SAHISA which is the Association for Heads of Independent Schools, of which the LSEN schools have an offshoot cluster group. Likewise, Karen Beevers belongs to SABISA – the Association for Bursars of Independent Schools. Dear Parents

As I am sure you are aware, Cedarwood is a member of ISASA – The Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa, which is the largest, oldest and most inclusive independent (private), and non-profit schools association in Southern Africa. With nearly 700 member schools in South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland, Namibia

and Angola, it services more than 160 000 pupils.

These peer groups offer wonderful support and collegiality – there is always someone to call upon when you need advice and guidance! We have attended training on school sustainability, corporate governance, performance appraisal systems, disciplinary proceedings, and curriculum development to mention but a few, and the annual conferences are always informative and uplifting. Thirdly, it provides member schools with services to protect their interests, promote best practice and support quality education and school sustainability.

Cedarwood is very proud to belong to such a quality organisation.

From the Sports Desk

As most of you have probably surmised, there is not much to report from the spor ng front at Cedarwood. These past two weeks have been unbelievable with the rains that have poured incessantly.   The so ball match that we had meant to play against Northsands has had to be postponed due to the wet weather. As you read this, you will probably have heard that the match we were supposed to play against Northsands has been cancelled for the same reason. In fact, all the fixtures for this week have had to be cancelled due to the rains. This deals a huge blow to the athle cs season which seems to have been s llborn. That leaves the athle cs team with only the meet for the 27th of March. However, a en on needs to be drawn to the fact that we will also be doing athle cs in the third term.   Another reminder has to do with sports photos. We take school photos every season in order to capture all members that par cipate in the various sports disciplines at our school. These are merely team photos and these will appear in the school news magazine at the end of the year. The school uniform for that par cular term is worn for school photos. You will be advised about the date for the sports photos for this season shortly.   Please take  me to say a prayer for 239 people that are on the Malaysia Airlines flight that disappeared without trace enroute to Beijing, China.

The University of Pretoria has joined the Bread Tags for Wheelchairs initiative and we would like to help as well. If you would like to help,

please collect your bread tags and drop them off in the bread tag jar in the front office, or alternatively, send them with your child. All the tags will be collected and sent with Miss de Bruyn to the University of Pretoria. They will then be recycled and the money raised from recycling will be used to

buy wheelchairs for those who cannot afford them.

Please visit the Bread tags for wheelchairs Facebook page for more information.

The PA Corner Hi – welcome to our second instalment of the PA Corner!

Lumo-Tastic Race postponement

The big news of the week is that unfortunately we are going to have to reschedule the Lumo-tastic Race that was scheduled for this Friday from 5pm-8pm. This rain doesn’t look as though it’s going to stop and we don’t want anyone floating away! We did consider asking you to come in wellies and raincoats, but weren’t sure if you’d be up for that. My sincere apologies for the inconvenience this may cause.

We are going to move it to:

Saturday 29th March from 9am to 12 noon

We thought it would be better to move it to the morning since it seems uncharacteristically cool for this time of year, so maybe the kids will enjoy it more in the morning. We’ll save the glowsticks for the camp-out later in the year. All the wonderful glow in the dark paint that the teachers have used on the obstacles will be in vain – sorry Miss Bristow!

House T-Shirts and Caps

The house t-shirts and caps are selling quickly – please come and get yours from the uniform shop on Thursday morning at drop-off if you’d still like one. We’re also going to get adult house t-shirts in – don’t know about you, but I don’t have a plain red t-shirt to wear at these functions and can’t wait to get mine!

Lemonade and Popcorn Feedback

We had our first Lemonade and Popcorn day this past Friday and it was a big success, the kiddos were so excited and we even ran out of popcorn (we’ve made sure it won’t happen again!). We made about R1 050 from the morning, which will go towards paying for the new signage in the parking lot. Thanks so much to Hayley Jonker, Antjie Mynhardt, Elmarie North, Kerry Perrins, Terry Lucas and Sharon Simpson for their hard work. This Friday the 14th we’ll be at it again, so please send R5 for popcorn and R5 for lemonade!

Again, please feel free to email or call me if there are any comments you have that you’d like to share.

Have a wonderful week, Lara (PA chairperson)
