January 2016 HAPPY NEW YEAR. I am sitting here listening to Christmas songs, “Baby it is cold outside” and realizing by the time you read this it will be a whole new year. Hope you and yours had a wonderful holiday season. The New Year brings new opportunities for our club. Our Board had to make some tough decisions in 2015, and this year will be no different. Last year’s tough financial decisions have put us on the path to better understand where we are financially, and we are certainly postured a lot better at this point then we were last year. We should feel okay about just taking a deep breath. As I say this, our Board has full intentions of ot being complacent going into this year. Hence, the change to this year’s winter schedule. Starting Monday January 4, we will be closed on Mondays. This is scheduled to take place the Monday after the last Monday Night Football game. I believe the membership knows I have ties to the MNF guest chef experience and how important this is to our club. MNF will continue to be sacred ground come next football season. Also, Tuesday hours will be changed to 4PM to 9PM allowing us to continue on with Tuesday Night Trivia. Without digging into the numbers, our Board of Directors and I believe this is in the best interest of the Club. I realize this will be an adjustment to our normal routine and as always, we appreciate the support of the member- ship. THANK YOU The month of December was very good to us. It started off with Barbra Brooks and her band of volunteer Elf’s (Mark, Don, Ken, Susan, Rachele, Joey, Deb, Robyn, Linda, Bob, Judi, Brian, Larry, and others.) for decorating the Club. The Open House event followed and the place looked great. Thanks to all those who brought cookies and being there to promote the club. Then came the 25th Anniversary Lighted Boat Parade and Marina Lights. Many beautifully lighted boats participated. Raffle winner included Rick and Susan Linn’s Half a Loaf, Bill Ritter’s Sue Z Q, Sam and Lisa Brene’s Sea Leaf, and Andy and Jen Moscola’s Liquidity. The Kids Christmas Day was once again led by Ima MacIntosh and her helpers. Special thanks to Rick Linn for supplying Santa’s sleigh. And then of course, there was the star of the show… Santa. Finally, the month ended with a great New Year’s Eve party. Great Food, Great Music, Great Night! I couldn’t have been more proud of how the Club looked this Holiday season. We also had numerous outside events that kept our Regatta Room hopping. I heard nothing but great reports from all. Speaking of hopping, Chef Daniel and our staff really stepped it up this Holiday Season. It was a very busy month for our staff. So when you get the chance, tell them thank you. Last, but not least, thanks go to Robert Cates and his swing man Richard Boltz for the great job they did coordinating MNF Guest Chef Nights. Also, we all thank those guest chefs that donated their recipes and time. And to all those who help volunteer by donating both their appetites and their money. “ALL FOR THE GOOD OF THE CLUB.” January brings our first cruise out of the year to Vallejo on the 22nd. We have our first cruise-in of the year that same day as well. We will welcome Grindstone Joes. Also, we will have a Sunday Buffet that same weekend on the 24th. Up next is our Annual Crab Feed on Saturday, January 30th. at night, we will be entertained by music from Dan DaShara. Given the limited availability of Crab, our dinner will be accented with mussel, clams, and other fish choices that will be “Off the Reef”. So check the Scuttlebutt for the dates and times of these events. 2016! May the winds always follow you, your fuel tanks never go empty, and may your drink glasses refill all by themselves. OK, so I got a little wild with the last one. One can only dream. From the Helm Commodore Bob Bohnet

Joke of the Month

Fish Tale Submitted by Bob Bohnet

A sailor was walking down the street with a brown paper bag. He ran into one of his friends who asked what was

in the bag. The sailor said: “Fish”

The friend said: “If I can guess how many fish you have in the bag will you give me one?”

The sailor said: “I’ll tell you what. If you can tell me how many fish I have then I will give you both of them.”

November 20144

An apology to any of you whose articles did not make into last months WW. Biography’s for the candi-dates took up a bit of space in the last edition and we could not get all of the stories in, we have included your articles in this edition.

There is a lot of work that goes into getting the Wind Word to you. With each edition that I have done, it has gotten easier, though it is still very time consuming. I am hoping that there is a member out there that would consider coming on board to help with putting out the WW in 2015. I am willing to help you get started! I also encourage having a team to sell advertising to defray the cost of future editions.

With that said, I am concerned that the WW is set to go on line only. It has been a topic of discussion before my taking over for HR as Editor. My concern is for the many members who do not have internet access and those not familiar with the internet itself, that may not search for the BYC website and the Wind Word. Without the phone tree, our only news update to our members is the Scuttlebutt, also an

internet based informational blast.

It would be much more cost effective to post on line only. Would you go on line and read it? Would you miss getting this in the mail and reading it as a print material? Think about that and let the board know your thoughts about the Wind Word’s future.

Because of the low number of readership that we have, membership is just over 200, we are not in competition with other local newspapers and publications as far as advertising goes. I do believe that we could do a better job to gain advertisement with our low costs and help defray the cost of this paper. If you would like to advertise and would like more information, please feel free to contact me or the board about this matter. .... Contact Mike Mathews at 707-745-0610.

I will be accepting LETTERS TO THE EDITOR about the future of the WW and anything else that you would like to discuss.

As I mentioned before, I would love to hear from you. All articles will be considered for print though member and mariner related articles will take priority and preference.
